March RawSpiceBar - Sambhar Flavor Kit

Do you love cooking with new foods and spices? Then you have to check out RawSpiceBar. Each month you will receive 3-4 whole spices or spice blends along with a recipe to use them. Each recipe will use the include spice and will make 8-10 servings. The price of this subscription is just $6.00 a month with shipping included. You have to sign up for a minimum 3 month subscription.

Price: $6.00 a month (minimum 3 month subscription) w/ shipping included. Discounts for 6 and 12 month subscriptions. Ships to US and Canada.

The good:

Love to cook: If you love cooking with new foods and spices this a fun way to do it.

Know someone who loves to cook: This makes a great gift!

Price: $6 is a great low price.

Reduce waste: It's such a terrible thing to buy a jar of spice and have it go to waste. This allows you to try the spice without buying a whole jar.

The not so good:

Skip: I don't see an option to skip or pause your subscription.

Buy: I really want them to have a shop on their website where you can purchase more spices you like.

Contents of the RawSpiceBar envelope:

.3 oz. packet Panch Phoran.

.3 oz. packet Sambhar Masala.

.3 oz. packet Mango Toasted Chaat.

One of the best parts of this subscription is the included recipes. They include ingredients that are easily found at the grocery store.

The recipes are:

Chaat Masala tomato and chickpea salad
Panch Phoran Roasted Potatoes
Mango Chaat Citrus Salad

Verdict: I think this is a great subscription and I'm really enjoying the new spices.

March Graze - 8 snack pack

Graze sends out a box of four snack size containers of dried fruit, nuts, crackers, dip and dippers, etc.  The boxes are semi-customizable meaning you don't actually get to pick which items you want but you can rate the items you receive from love to never send me this again.  The cost of the box is $11.99 per shipment. You can also choose how often you want the boxes. I have mine set up for every four weeks.

Price: $11.99 per 8 pack shipment or $6.99 per 4 pack. This subscription ships to the US only, except Hawaii and Alaska.

Use Code: ANISHA6PP and get your 1st and 5th Box Free!

The good:

Like Snacks: Are you a snacker like me?  These are perfectly proportioned snack size containers.

Nutritional info: The include nutritional info in each box. It's on the card in the package though, not the actual product which is kind of a bummer.

Skip: You can do this online through your account and it's super easy.

Semi-customizable: You rate items and that's how they choose which items to send you.

Special Diet or preference: You can choose from high protein, low carb, low sugar, low calories, savory, sweet treats, etc.

Gift: This is a great gift for a college student. I just send one to the teenager because she is always raiding our stash when she comes over.

The not so good:

Price: The costs ends up being $1.50 per package.  You're paying for convenience but I gotta be honest it was super convenient to pick up a pack and throw it in my lunch bag this morning.

March Robb Vices box

Robb Vices is a monthly subscription box focused on exceptional products, food, accessories, etc. Each box is curated and comes with a booklet that tells the story of the items in the box. This box is for those who enjoy the finer things and appreciate the history or story behind it. I only say that because this box is not inexpensive. The price is $74.95 per month plus shipping. I subscribe to the Robb Report and very much enjoy reading it. If you subscribe to the magazine the offer a discount on the box. I researched previous boxes and liked what I saw so I subscribed.

Price: $74.95 per month plus shipping w/discounts for 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions.

The Good:

Products: The products are high end, artisan and great quality.

Information: The include booklet is a wealth of information on the products.

Referral Program: Refer 3 friends and get a free box.

Alcohol: Sometimes they include alcohol which I'm a big fan of.

The Not So Good:

Price: The price is high for a monthly box of surprise items.

Auto-Renew. I don't care much for auto-renew especially on a box with a high price tag.

March Robb Vices box

Contents of the Robb Vices Box:

750ml Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile Liquor. Value = $34.99

Melissa's Produce Dried Oaxacan Chiles. Value = $6.00

Melissa's Produce Dried Ghost Peppers. Value = $??

9 oz. NW Elixirs Hott Sauce Co. Hott Jolokia No. 5. Value = $12.00

8oz. Hank Sauce Cilanktro. Value = $14.00

8oz. Royal Rose Three Chile Simple Syrup. Value = $9.50

2oz. Righteous Felon Jerky Cartel Habanero Escobar. Value = $10.00

1.5oz. Little Bird Kitchen Fire Bark. Value = $6.99

Fuller Foods Seriously Cheesy Puffs. Value = $6.00

50ml bottle Reyka Vodka. Value = $3.99

50ml bottle Flor de Cana rum. Value = $2.99?

50ml bottle Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey. Value = $2.99

The total value of this box is $110.00. I love the Robb Vices box but was a little bummed when I opened this box. I'm not a fan of hot sauces or ghost chiles or anything spicy. After rummaging around the box though I did find some cool stuff to try and of course alcohol is always appreciated. I was scared to try the habanero jerky but surprisingly it wasn't too spicy. I was also apprehensive to try the cheesy puffs. At first they were ok but the spice sneaks up on you. The booklet this month came with recipes for the alcohol but I think I want to try this little guys straight up to really experience the flavor. I'm a big fan of cilantro and this sauce says it's mild.

Verdict: This Robb Vices box wasn't my favorite but it had some new things to try.

Quarterly Co. Culinary Box #YUM06

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  The way it works is you pick a contributor you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it. This subscription is for the Culinary box. Each shipment is curated by a different person in the food field. The last shipment was curated by Chef Niki Nakayama.

This months box featured chefs Francine Stephens & Andrew Feinberg owners of Franny's in New York.

Price $75 every 3 months.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Quarterly Co. Culinary Box #YUM06

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Franny's Cookbook. Value = $23.79 on Amazon

Azienda Agricolo Caravaclio Capers. Value = $9.25

Katz Sauvignon Blanc Vinegar. Value = $12.00

Grob Meersalz Trapani Salt. Value = $3.50

Rosenthal dried red pepper flakes. Value = $10.50

Gustarosso San Marzano Tomatoes. Value = $6.90

Recipe for basic tomato sauce.

The approximate value of this box is $65.00. That's a very approximate value because some of the prices I had to convert from Euro and some of the items were very hard to find. I am on salt overload right now. This is the second large bag of salt I received in a subscription box. Not to mention the little jars. I also have salt blocks that when they break down you can grind into salt flakes. I love a good cookbook and I'm hoping this one is filled with more fresh Italian food than pasta type Italian food. From the picture it looks like it. I'm also a big fan of vinegar so I'll be using this little sauv blanc bottle for sure. Capers aren't my favorite thing to eat but I like them as a garnish. I probably won't use the red pepper flakes. I have a big jar already and I'm not a spicy food person so a little goes a long with me.

Verdict: This box has great Italian theme. I can't wait to make the tomato sauce.
