September ipsy bag - Glamazon

ipsy sends out a glam bag with 4-5 samples and a makeup bag for $10 a month with shipping included. If you sign up yearly it's $110 which brings the price down the $9.16 a month with shipping included.  I've been with them since 2011 and this is one subscription I am for sure keeping. They constantly have a high product value with products that I use.

Price: $10 a month with no option to skip. Discount offered for a yearly subscription.

This subscription is available to the US and Canada and ships from Harrisburg, NC.

***I have 4 invites for a free glam bag. It's for first time subscribers only!***

The good:

The samples: Usually you get at least one full size product in each bag.

The packaging: Each month the products come in a cute makeup bag for all your goodies.

Discounts: The almost always offer a discount on any additional purchases you want to make.

Semi-customized: You take a little quiz and your bag is semi-customized with products you will enjoy.

Points: You can earn points for reviews and referrals. You can redeem points for extra goodies in your bag.

The not so good:

Skip a month? There is no option to skip a month.  You have to cancel.

Renewal. If your a yearly subscriber they automatically charge your credit card for another year when the paid for year is up. I think they should sent out an email prior reminding you that your year is almost up and it will automatically renew.

September ipsy bag

Contents of ipsy bag w/approximate value:

.05 Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme. Value = $9.33

.75 oz. Eva NYC Forget Me Knot Dry Conditioner. Value = $7.00

Be a Bombshell nail polish in Holy Fuchsia. Value = $6.00

.5 oz. Nuxe Créme Fraiche de beauté masque. Value = $8.33

.04 oz. tréStique mini highlight stick.  Value = $15.00??

makeup bag in black and gold with dancers on it.

The approximate value of this months bag is approximately $45.66.  This was a pretty good bag for me. The only thing I probably won't use is the nail polish because I have literally hundreds of bottles of polish. I just put up racks and it's ridiculous how much polish I have. The dry conditioner is something new to me. I can totally see using that on the days I don't want to wash my hair but it's looking a little dry. I'm going to get brave and try my hand at highlighting with this highlighter stick.

Verdict: I'm happy with the products in this bag.

Quarterly Co. Culinary Box #YUM05

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  The way it works is you pick a contributor you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it. This subscription is for the Culinary box. Each shipment is curated by a different person in the food field. The last shipment was curated by Chef Andrés. This box was curated by Chef Niki Nakayama and priced at $75.00 plus shipping ($8 and taxes if applicable).

This months box was curated by Chef Niki Nakayama.

Price $75 every 3 months.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Quarterly Co. Culinary Box #YUM05

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Kewpie Mayonnaise. Value = $6.00

Breakaway Matcha coldbrew. Value = $39.00

Suribachi Set. Value = $11.00

Katsuobushi (bonito flakes). Value = $12.00

White Roasted Sesame Seeds. Value = $4.00

Kitazawa Shiso Seeds for 2017 season. Value = $3.69

Kitazawa Shishito Seeds for 2017 season. Value = $3.69

Yuzu Kosho. Value = $7.00

Dashi Kombu. Value = $6.00

The approximate value of this box is $92.38. This is what I call a break even box meaning the value is equal to about the price paid. I paid $88.63 for this box after shipping and tax. I was super excited about this box because I love asian cooking. The flavors are always so simple and complex at the same time. When I first opened the box I saw the bonito flakes. I happened to love, love, love bonito flakes so this was exciting for me. The next item I saw was the dashi kombu. I was excited about this because I love dashi broth and I can't wait to make it from scratch. The other exciting thing is the matcha. Matcha is a green tea and it's delicious. I've never had cold brew matcha but I'm excited to make it. The suribachi set is basically a mortar and pestle but the bowl has ridges so it crushes seeds better.

Verdict: I am so excited about this box!

OuiPlease Vol. 2.3: Summer Escapade

The OuiPlease is a box full of Parisian treasures that ships 6 times a year. The price of the box is quite high at $150 per shipment. You can also subscribe yearly for $650 bringing the price of the box down to $108. Per the OuiPlease website your special delivery will feature a surprise selection of products, including the very best France has to offer in beauty, jewelry, accessories, apparel, home and epicure and have a value of at least $300.

Every now and then they have a 20% off code that can be used on yearly subscriptions and brings the price down to $520 or $87 a box. The catch is you have to pay the full amount upfront which is a lot to shell out for a subscription box.

Price: $108-$150 every two months depending on subscription commitment.

The Good:

Luxury products: The boxes are filled with name brands that would be considered luxurious.

Variety: This box isn't just beauty products. It will have jewelry, apparel, home goods, etc.

Information: They include their own magazine that talks about the products in the box as well as other products.

Pricing Structure: They offer one-time, monthly or yearly subscriptions. It would be nice to see a 6 month (3 box) subscription tier.

The Not So Good

Price: The price is way high but at the same time you will hopefully get what you pay for.

Referrals: I would like to see a referral program. If you can convince someone to spend this much money on a box you should get a little thank you treasure.

OuiPlease Summer Escapade box.

Necklace translated means small pleasure.

Mille et uno Fouta 100% cotton beach towel. Value = $25.00

Fay Maison Gaufres & Pancake Mix. Value $15.00

Herbs de Provence. Value - $12.00

The value of this box is $394.50. I wasn't overly excited about this box. Don't get me wrong there are some fun products but nothing that made me super excited. The towel and food items are great. The shoe flaps are not my style at all. The face serum has me curious because the value os $130! I'm not a fan of creme nail polish and I have a ton of polish already so that wasn't exciting. The jewelry pieces are cute and I think you can take the charm off the leather cord and put it on a chain.

Verdict: This box had value but it just wasn't overly exciting for me.

August Robb Vices box

Robb Vices is a monthly subscription box focused on exceptional products, food, accessories, etc. Each box is curated and comes with a booklet that tells the story of the items in the box. This box is for those who enjoy the finer things and appreciate the history or story behind it. I only say that because this box is not inexpensive. The price is $74.95 per month plus shipping. I subscribe to the Robb Report and very much enjoy reading it. If you subscribe to the magazine the offer a discount on the box. I researched previous boxes and liked what I saw so I subscribed.

Price: $74.95 per month plus shipping w/discounts for 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions.

The Good:

Products: The products are high end, artisan and great quality.

Information: The include booklet is a wealth of information on the products.

Referral Program: Refer 3 friends and get a free box.

Alcohol: Sometimes they include alcohol which I'm a big fan of.

The Not So Good:

Price: The price is high for a monthly box of surprise items.

Auto-Renew. I don't care much for auto-renew especially on a box with a high price tag.

The first thing I noticed was the box said Cadillac on the outside. This made me thing Cadillac had something to do with the items in this box.

The inside of the box. I was surprised that it didn't seem to have anything to do with cars.

The theme of this box revolves around coffee. What does that have to do with Cadillac.

ohhhh tasty treats!

Contents of the Robb Vices Box:

Joe Coffee Company The Runabout Blend. Value = $15.00

GSI Outdoor Products Java Mill. Value = $29.95

W&P Design coffee press with ceramic coffee drip lid. Value = $60.00??

Brooklyn Baking Brothers mini cake sampler. Value = $10.00

Aquiesse Passion Fruit & Citrus Luxe Tin Candle. Value = $26.00

Visionaire subscription. Value = $175.00-$295.00

Visionaire $100 off a purchase. Value = $0

LED video box for the Cadillac house. Value = $??

The total value of this box is $315.95-$435.95. This box has an amazing value but I'm not overly excited about it. Don't get my wrong the products are amazing but the whole gourmet coffee thing it lost on me. I like coffee but I'm not particular about it. I am definitely going to drink the Joe Coffee and I'm very curious about it. The portable coffee grinder is very cool but I don't grind on the go. I know people rave about french presses but again I feel like the whole experience would be lost on me. However, I am super curious about the ceramic coffee drip. It seems easy enough to use so I might give it a go. I am super stoked about the baked goods. I read the whole story about the creators behind it and they sound delicious! I didn't take a close up of the candle but it's pretty cool. It comes with matches under the lid and smells great. The LED video box is interested. It's a video about the Cadillac house but it also came with a usb cord and from what I understand you can load your own video on the device. So crazy! The most mysterious, in my opinion, item in the box is the Visionaire subscription. I read about it and I still don't really understand what it's all about. Supposedly those of this who received a Robb Vices box this month are going to receive a Visionaire subscription with a value of $175-$295. I will update this post when I receive this mysterious item.

Verdict: I still love the Robb Vices box.
