Quarterly Co. Culinary Box #YUM05

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  The way it works is you pick a contributor you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it. This subscription is for the Culinary box. Each shipment is curated by a different person in the food field. The last shipment was curated by Chef Andrés. This box was curated by Chef Niki Nakayama and priced at $75.00 plus shipping ($8 and taxes if applicable).

This months box was curated by Chef Niki Nakayama.

Price $75 every 3 months.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Quarterly Co. Culinary Box #YUM05

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Kewpie Mayonnaise. Value = $6.00

Breakaway Matcha coldbrew. Value = $39.00

Suribachi Set. Value = $11.00

Katsuobushi (bonito flakes). Value = $12.00

White Roasted Sesame Seeds. Value = $4.00

Kitazawa Shishito Seeds for 2017 season. Value = $3.69

Yuzu Kosho. Value = $7.00

Dashi Kombu. Value = $6.00

The approximate value of this box is $92.38. This is what I call a break even box meaning the value is equal to about the price paid. I paid $88.63 for this box after shipping and tax. I was super excited about this box because I love asian cooking. The flavors are always so simple and complex at the same time. When I first opened the box I saw the bonito flakes. I happened to love, love, love bonito flakes so this was exciting for me. The next item I saw was the dashi kombu. I was excited about this because I love dashi broth and I can't wait to make it from scratch. The other exciting thing is the matcha. Matcha is a green tea and it's delicious. I've never had cold brew matcha but I'm excited to make it. The suribachi set is basically a mortar and pestle but the bowl has ridges so it crushes seeds better.

Verdict: I am so excited about this box!
