May Hatchery Box

Hatchery is a subscription box for small batch food products from independent makers. This is always a great way to be able to try artisan type food products without ordering in large quantities. Each month you will get 5-6 products. The price of this box is $20 a month w/shipping included. I found a deal through Gilt for half off a 12 month subscription so each box cost me $10.

Price: $20 a month

This box is available to the US and Canada.

The good:

Variety: You get to try a variety of items without having to order from lots of places.

Not just food: They also included mixers for drinks!

Info: They product a booklet with info on each product/company.

Need a Gift: They offer 3, 6 and 12 month gift subscriptions.

Instructions: They include recipes and or uses for the products in the box.

Need More: They have a marketplace where you can shop your box!

The not so good:

Discounts: No discounts for long term subscriptions.

May Hatchery Box

Contents of the Hatchery Box:

(4) .035 oz. Zas Seasoning Sampler packets in Tamarind, Hatch Chile, Chili Lime, Mango Chile. Value = $0.14

2.25 oz. Nostrum Ginger Pineapple Tumeric Shrub. Value = $2.19

.5 oz.? packet NYC Halal Cart Chicken. Value = $2.25

1.25 oz. Handsome Carver's Coffee & Chocolate Peanut Spread. Value = $1.11

1.8 oz. Sir Kensington Ketchup. Value = $1.45

The total value of the Hatchery box is $7.14. I like the items in the box this month. I was happy to see it wasn't full of spicy items. I think I might try the Halal packet tonight. It says it's a great chicken marinade and since I have chicken to cook this will be handy. I love the Sir Kensington brand and was excited to see this mini jar of ketchup. Side note I recently stayed at the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco and was excited to see they provide this size jars of Sir Kensington condiments with their room service. The cocktail mixer sounds interesting. It also says you can mix it in dressings or seltzer water.

Verdict: I like the premise of this box but would like to see a higher value.
