February Hatchery Tasting Box

Hatchery is a subscription box for small batch food products from independent makers. This is always a great way to be able to try artisan type food products without ordering in large quantities. Each month you will get 5-6 products. The price of this box is $20 a month w/shipping included. I found a deal through Gilt for half off a 12 month subscription so each box cost me $10.

Price: $20 a month

This box is available to the US and Canada.

The good:

Variety: You get to try a variety of items without having to order from lots of places.

Not just food: They also included mixers for drinks!

Info: They product a booklet with info on each product/company.

Need a Gift: They offer 3, 6 and 12 month gift subscriptions.

Instructions: They include recipes and or uses for the products in the box.

Need More: They have a marketplace where you can shop your box!

The not so good:

Discounts: No discounts for long term subscriptions.

February Hatchery Tasting Box

Contents of the Hatchery Box:

1 oz. San Augustin Datil Pepper Table Sauce. Value = $1.00

1.4 oz. Just Jan's Key Lime Curd. Value = $1.28

2 oz. Balsamos's Family Kitchen 7 Salad Dressing 002. Value = $3.81

3.75 oz. Yai's Thai Medium Thai Salsa. Value = $1.65

1 oz? GreenPoint Trading Co. Jerk Seasoning. Value = $1.25

The total value of the Hatchery box is $8.96. It's kind of hard to find what the values would be if they made this products in these actual sizes. I'm sure the companies know the cost but since they don't sell these sizes I don't know what that would be. The prices listed are just estimated based on how much product is in the container vs. full size. I'm saying all this because that would explain the low value on some of these items. I still would like to see a higher overall value. I've been happy with the products in the box and have liked the ones I've tried. It's nice to be able to try before you buy. I can't wait to try the thai salsa but I sure hope it's not too spicy.

Verdict: I like the premise of this box but would like to see a higher value.

The good:

Love to cook: If you love cooking with new foods and spices this a fun way to do it.

Know someone who loves to cook: This makes a great gift!

Price: $6 is a great low price.

Reduce waste: It's such a terrible thing to buy a jar of spice and have it go to waste. This allows you to try the spice without buying a whole jar.

The not so good:

Skip: I don't see an option to skip or pause your subscription.

Buy: I really want them to have a shop on their website where you can purchase more spices you like.

February Sichuan Spice Box

I would've like to gift a couple of these items but it came too late to do that. I thought the ring was super cute and it's slightly adjustable so you can wear it a couple of different ways. The cleansing balm comes with a really nice cloth for cleaning your face. I thought that was pretty cool. I can't believe how expensive the Tilo scarves are. I mean they are nice but $125?

Verdict: This months PopSugar fit the Valentines theme very well.

February GlossyBox

GlossyBox is a monthly subscription box for beauty items. Each month GlossyBox will send a box of 5 beauty products in a pink reusable box. I mention the box because it's very sturdy with minimal branding on it and can be reused for a multitude of things. I've reused them for packing gifts, storing jewelry and beauty items.

The total value of the GlossyBox is $83.93. I was super excited to the eye roll-on thing. These things really work. I'm also a big fan of face masks. I haven't found one that I've thought made a huge difference but I figure none of them can hurt. I love the color of the lipstick but I'm usually not a fan of matte colors. I guess if all else fails I can put some gloss on top of it. I really liked the glamglow face mud mask I've received in other boxes so I'm sure I'll like the cleanser plus it's travel size and y'all know how I love my travel size treasures.

Verdict: I loved the box this month. The eye roller alone makes it an an awesome deal!

If you sign up yearly it's $110 which brings the price down the $9.16 a month with shipping included.  I've been with them since 2011 and this is one subscription I am for sure keeping. They constantly have a high product value with products that I use.

The approximate value of this months bag is $31.94. I swear I have every makeup brush imaginable then I get one that I don't have. I'm not even sure how to use this one but I like it. It's stiff and flat. I've heard good things about the smashbox primer oil. I'm hoping it takes the shine off for photos. I've never used argan oil on my face but I love the way it feels in my hair. I wasn't a big fan of the lip pencil but my friend received the argan oil for hair so we traded. win, win!

Verdict: I loved the makeup bag this month. I'm also excited to try my new brush out, not quite sure how yet but I'll learn.

The OuiPlease is a box full of Parisian treasures that ships 6 times a year. The price of the box is quite high at $175 for a month-to-month subscription. You can also subscribe for $150 per shipment or a yearly subscription is $650. Per the OuiPlease website your special delivery will feature a surprise selection of products, including the very best France has to offer in beauty, jewelry, accessories, apparel, home and epicure.

Variety: This box isn't just beauty products. It will have jewelry, apparel, home goods, etc.

Information: They include their own magazine that talks about the products in the box as well as other products.

Pricing Structure: They offer one-time, monthly or yearly subscriptions. It would be nice to see a 6 month (3 box) subscription tier.

The Not So Good

Price: The price is way high but at the same time you will hopefully get what you pay for.

Referrals: I would like to see a referral program. If you can convince someone to spend this much money on a box you should get a little thank you treasure.

There were so many fun things in this shipment I had to take multiple pictures!

This is the bracelet. As you can see it's very dainty. The earrings are super fun and simple. On the back the have the letter "M" for Mirgiole stamped on the back.

I'm really liking the color of this clutch. It's listed as a card holder but it's more like a clutch.

Contents of the Volume 1.6 OuiPlease Box:

Harem Des Sens silk milk body lotion. Value = $30.00

Mirgiole Sorbonne Earrings. Value = $60.00

Histoires De Parfums in Vert Pivoine. Value = $40.00

1951 Maison Francaise card holder/clutch. Value = $60.00

Oolution Glow Up moisturizer. Value = $40.00

L'Attelier Ladure Chocolate Disks. Value = $25.00

L'Attelier Caramelised Walnuts. Value = $15.00

The value of this box is $337.00. I'll be honest I devoured the chocolate and caramelised walnuts. I took me a week or so but I didn't share them. I love, love the little triangle earrings. The bracelet is cute but a little too dainty for me. I think I will try and trade it. I've been hoping to get one of the 1951 clutches. They have been in previous shipments but I never received one and haven't been successful in finding one on the trade sites. I'm super curious about the toothpaste since it's $17.00! The perfume is ok. It says it's feminine/floral but I can't place the floral but it's not one of my favorites.

Verdict: It's a lot of money but it definitely has value.

The total value of of this BeautyFIX box is $147.34. I was happy to see the matching condition to the shampoo that was in last months box and also happy I hadn't got around to using the shampoo. I was a little disappointed to see two eye creams in this box, although they are high end brands. I'm not sure about the eyelash curler. On one hand I like the idea of it but I would probably never use it. As a matter of fact I think I have one in the drawer already. I haven't found any of these eyelash serums to actually work but I'll give it a try anyhow. I'm loving the color of the glo minerals lip color.

Verdict: I was happy to see the conditioner in the box. The one item alone was worth the price of the box.

I resubscribed to this because I came across a Cyber Monday deal which made a yearly subscription $88.69 which breaks down to 7.39 a month. I figured that was a pretty good deal. Right now yearly subscription are available on Rue La La for the same discount!

.06 oz. Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence. Value = $4.33

The total value of this box is $37.69. I thought this was a near perfect box for me. The only thing in this box that I don't use on a regular basis is the lip color and the illuminator, however I do use them on occasion so I'm happy to have them. I also thought the products in this box fit the theme perfectly.

The verdict: This box was practically a perfect match for me.

February Target Beauty Box

Every now and then Target puts together a box of goodies and offers them for $5-$10.00 each. It's similar to the WalMart box except this doesn't have a set shipping schedule and you can't subscribe. The Good:

Price: You can't beat the price!

Like the products: They even include a coupon for $3 off a purchase at Target.

Besides all that I was shocked that they got the value right on target. Get it? Target? ha ha. I digress. I am super happy with this box because I can't think of one thing in this box I won't use. I'm very curious about he coconut oil shampoo. For some reason I picture Hawaii and super soft, shiny hair.
