December Urth Box

The Urth box tagline is "Discover a Healthier You". Well who doesn't want to do that? I found a deal on on Gilt for a 6 month subscription for $69. I thought for $12 a month, heck why not. Each month Urth box sends a box of healthy full size snacks for you to try. They have different types and sizes of boxes the choose from. You can choose a gluten free, diet, classic or vegan box. From that point you choose which size box you want. They have a small box (7-10 items) for $29 a month, medium box (12-15 items) for $39 a month, large box (20-24 items) for $59 a month. Shipping to US is included. If you choose a 3 or 6 month plan you can save up to $10 a month. So as you can see I got a really great deal on the small box plan.

Price: $29-$59 a month depending on size of box with discounts offered for 3 or 6 month subscriptions.

This box is available to US and Canada but extra shipping fees apply to Canada.

The Good:

Variety: They have a variety of boxes to choose from depending on your dietary needs.

Products: They send full size products which is awesome!

The Not So Good:

Price: The price is a little high for a monthly box.

Skip: It doesn't appear there any way to skip.

December Urth Box.

Contents of the Urth Box:

2.5 oz. The Good Bean Crispy Crunchy Chickpeas in Smoky Chili & lime. Value = $2.59 - whew! these were spicy!

1.75 oz. Ricky's Lucky Nuts Real Coffee. Value = $2.00

Positive Energy Orange Juice. Value = $1.99

1.5 oz. Chimes Ginger Chews. Value = $1.89

3 oz. Next by Nature Dark Chocolate Pretzels. Value = $2.96 - delicious chocolate covered pretzel

.7 oz. Frontier Bites Pecan Cherry Cinnamon. Value = $1.20

.53 oz. Bare Fruit Apple Chips in Sea Salt Caramel. Value = $1.03

.95 oz. Home Free Mini Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. Value = $1.95

1 oz. Matt's Munchies Ginger Spice Fruit Snack. Value = $2.29

.8 oz. Raw Rev 100 Spirulina Dream Organic Live Food Bar. Value = $0.64

Peter Rabbit Organics Mango, Banana and Orange fruit snack pouch. Value = $1.44

Hana Kitchen Hana Black & White Cookies. Value = $?? - This was like a gourmet oreo.

4 oz. Inka Corn. Value = $2.09 - These are like corn nuts only a hundred times better.

The total value of this box is $22.07. I really wish the value was closer to the paid price however I do think they include some awesome stuff in here. Most of the products I am familiar with but some were new to me. The chickpeas looked promising but holy moly they were spicy. I wish I could find more info on the Hana Kitchen's products. Basically it's a commercial kitchen that people can rent and bake things but I can't find the products for sale. I've tried two things from them and they were both delicious.

Verdict: This box has great items but I prefer boxes than come closer to the price paid. This was the last box in my subscription and I'm not going to renew.

December Love With Food - Deluxe Box

Love with Food is a monthly subscription box filled with food. They now offer a deluxe size version of the box which contains 16-20 new snack foods. The price of this deluxe version is $19.95 a month with shipping included. You can also sign up for a 6 or 12 month plan each which will save you a couple of dollars a month. Also for each deluxe box purchased 2 meals are donated to hungry children in America. I decided to cancel my regular snack size box and subscribe to just this larger
size box.

Price: $19.95 a month with a discount for 6 and 12 month plans. No option to skip.

This subscription is only available in the US and ships from Santa Clara, California.

The good:

Bigger is better? I know some people don't like that the regular box is so small but it also comes with a small price tag. This deluxe box would be better suited for those with more than 2 people in their house. No more fighting over the tasty snacks!

Variety: You get a lot of variety in each box.

Discounts: You can earn points for discounts off future full size product purchases by submitting reviews on their website or referring new members.

The not so good:

I really can't think of anything I don't like about this box.

Contents of box with approximate retail value from Love with Food:

(2) 3 oz. Oogies Kettle Corn. Value = $1.66/ea.

(2) 1.05 oz. Olympos Pitted Green Olives. Value = $1.20

(2) .63 oz. Nocciolata Hazelnut Spread.  Value = $0.44/ea.

2 oz. Hannah Max Cookie Chips in Chocolate Chip. Value = $1.50

2 oz. Hannah Max Cookie Chips in Original. Value = $1.50

(2) Liddabit Sweets Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels. Value = $1.07

Honey Acres Chocolate Honey Mints. Value = $1.33

(4) Bali's Best Espresso Candies. Value = $??

(2) 1 oz. Next by Nature Dark Chocolate Coconut. Value = $1.30/ea.

Pistol Whipped Pastry Gluten Free Almond Cranberry Dark Chocolate Granola Bars. Value = $1.28

(2) Lindt Excellence 70% Cocoa bites. Value = $0.36/ea.

The total approximate value of this box is $17.67. I was really happy with this box except for the olives because I don't like olives. Everyone else I know likes them and I think I'm going to put them out with the appetizers for Christmas. I love the cookie crisps. Usually I like soft cookies but honestly I don't think of these as cookies, more like crisp little wafers. I thought I would like the dark chocolate coconut thing more since it combines two things I love but it was just ok. The hazelnut spreads are always delicious and perfect size for throwing in my lunch bag.

If you use my referral link you can try the LWF snack box for just $2 shipping!

Verdict:  This Love with Food box had some really awesome things to try and definitely had a holiday feel to it.

Quarterly Co. Chef Ludo Lefebrve #LLQ02

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  It's not a monthly adventure but it's quarterly.  The way it works is you pick a "contributor" you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it. This box is from Chef Ludo Lefebvre who is often credit for revolutionizing fine dining in Los Angeles. Before the age of 30, Ludo had been named one of the World's 50 Greatest Chefs by Relais & Chateaux. I love food and cooking so this box sounded like it would be a great match for me. Sounded perfect for me. The cost of this box is $50.00 per quarter with shipping included.

Price $50 every 3 months. Option to purchase a one time box available for $50 plus $8 shipping.

This is available in the US only and ships from El Dorado Hills, Ca - although the box says it's packed in Los Angeles.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

1.10 oz. Ludo Lefebrve Spices Pain D'Epices. Value = $??

Famille Michaud Le Grand Miel (honey). Value = $6.60?

4 small paper loaf pans. Value = $0.75/ea.

Sambonet 12 piece set of party forks. Value = $40.00

Maison Metallo Valuspa Cinnamon Ceyeon & Copal Candle Value = $18.00

Chef Ludo's Recipe for Pain D' Epices (fruit cake)

Chef Ludo's Recipe for Burgundy Escargots.

The approximate value of this box is $67.60. I was unable to find the exact set of party forks online as the ones in the box. The ones I found came in a nice reusable looking gift box. I also had a hard time finding the honey. I found a price but it seemed low to me and of course it's imported so I didn't include shipping. I absolutely love the little paper loaf pans. I love all the paper baking goods. I don't know why but I just think they are so fun. I also was unable to find the spice mix online, maybe it's something that is coming in the future to his shop.
I am definitely going to try Ludo's version of fruit cake. I think people will be more receptive if I call it Pain D'Epices rather than fruit cake. As for the escargot - I actually don't mind escargot but I don't know of any place where I can buy snails.

Verdict: I'm liking this box more and more. I'm also really enjoying the included recipes. I think those are awesome!

December Cricut Mystery Bag

Cricut is a personal electronic cutting machine used in card making, scrapbooking, and crafting of all types. Cricut started selling mystery boxes which when they contain the cartridges are a terrific value! The cartridges that are needed to use the machine run anywhere from $20-$50 a piece. As you can see, adding to your collection of cartridges can add up quick.

The description said: The December Mystery Box. The contents are a mystery, but the winter mystery box includes 3 cartridges! This month's mystery box is over a $100 value.

The price of this months cricut mystery box was $29.99 plus shipping of $7.95. This month they offered free shipping using code FREESHIPDEC. This brought the final price to $32.24 after tax. This box is still available.

Contents of box with prices from the Cricut website listed.
The first price is the regular price and the second price is the sale price listed.

Cricut Paper Dolls Teen Scene cartridge. Value = $19.99/$13.33

Cricut Wall Décor and More cartridge. Value = $14.99/9.99

Cricut Dino Play cartridge. Value = $39.99/19.99

Cricut Scraper & Spatula Tool Set. Value = $9.99/6.99

The total value of this box is $84.96 or $50.30. Once again Cricut didn't meet the promised over $100 value. Also since all of these were on sale it was really only a savings of $20. While that's still a savings it's not the tremendous deal they make it out to be. I email them and suggested they review their product values and also a disclaimer than discounted items will be included in the box. They wrote back and said they will forward on my suggestions. For some reason I highly doubt they will.
The good thing about this box is I don't have any of the cartridges. Although I could've sworn I had the Wall & Décor cartridge. I really need to organize my carts and start working on some projects

Verdict: If you are into Cricut and don't have a lot of cartridges the mystery boxes with cartridges in them is a great deal.

December Allure Sample Society Beauty Box

The Allure Sample Society beauty box is a monthly service for beauty products that promises 5 fresh deluxe sized samples from luxury brands designed for multiple uses.  You also receive a coupon each month for $15 off a $50 purchase from Beauty Bar and a 12 month subscription to Allure magazine.  The cost for this subscription is $15.00 a month with shipping included.

Referrals: It's a win/win. You get a $5 credit on your account or you can donate that to charity and the person you refer gets a 20% discount on their first purchase at Beauty Bar.

The not so good:

Skip a month: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel.

December Sample Society Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value.

.9 oz. Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Hand Therapy. Value = $8.00

FULL SIZE Butter London Lippy Tinted Lip Balm. Value = $20.00

FULL SIZE RGB nail polish in Oxblood. Value = $18.00

.17 oz. Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in Nude Radiance. Value = $8.21

.17 Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Gel. Value = $19.73

The total value of this box is $73.694. You wouldn't think all of these little samples would total up to such a high value. I love Butter London polish and this lip color looks really pretty. I feel like it will be creamy and smooth going on. I think I already have the RGB nail polish in that color. It sounds really familiar but I remember thinking I liked the color. I've been using eye cream every night which I don't know if it's making a difference but it can't hurt.

Verdict: This box almost always great products and a great value.

December ipsy Bag - Thinking of You

Ipsy bag sends out 4-5 samples and a makeup bag for $10 a month with shipping included. If you sign up yearly it's $110 which brings the price down the $9.16 a month with shipping included.  I've been with them since 2011 and this is one subscription I am for sure keeping. They constantly have a high product value with products that I use.

Price: $10 a month with no option to skip. Discount offered for a yearly subscription.

This subscription is available to the US and Canada and ships from Harrisburg, NC.

The good:

The samples: Usually you get at least one full size product in each bag.

The packaging: Each month the products come in a cute makeup bag for all your goodies.

Discounts: The almost always offer a discount on any additional purchases you want to make.

Semi-customized: You take a little quiz and your bag is semi-customized with products you will enjoy.

The not so good:

Skip a month? There is no option to skip a month.  You have to cancel.

Renewal. If your a yearly subscriber they automatically charge your credit card for another year when the paid for year is up. I think they should sent out an email prior reminding you that your year is almost up and it will automatically renew.

tipsy Thinking of You Bag

.15 Nourish Organics Renewing Eye Cream. Value = $??

.10 oz. tarte lights, camera, lashes mascara. Value = $8.75

Crown infinity crease/shadow duet brush. Value = $6.99

black makeup bag.

The approximate value of this months bag is $23.24 not including the eye cream because I couldn't find it anywhere online. Except for the eye cream and only because I have a ton of it right now I'll use all of these products. I wish the bumble & bumble product were a little bit bigger because I have a feeling it will go fast.

Verdict: I'll use all of the products in this box for sure!

O's Circle of Friends Subscription

Back in October Oprah launched her new O's Circle of Friends subscription. The subscription has three levels of membership and each one offers a little something different. The basic membership is $39 the prime membership is $99 and the premier membership is $199. The prime membership has all the bell and whistles but it's also expensive. I debated on which one to sign up for but because Oprah has the magic touch when it comes to products I opted for the premier membership. I was intrigued by the "test (and keep!) products component.

The good:

Oprah: Pretty much everything associated with Oprah turns to gold.

Price: Three different price levels.

The not so good:

Value: So far I'm not seeing the value in the premier membership. I have yet to get a surprise gift or products I can test and keep.

Comparison of memberships.

The outside of the box. Look familiar?

Boy this sure looks like a GlossyBox.

It's even wrapped up like a GlossyBox.

This is the Blvgari package opened. It has a ceramic disc you can spray and put in your closet.

Contents of the O's Circle of Friends Box:

FULL SIZE Vichy Neovadiol Lumiere BB Cream. Value = $42.00

FULL SIZE Doll 10 Defining Mascara 360. Value = $12.00

.5 oz. Aerin Beauty Rose Hand & Body Cream. Value = $4.77

FULL SIZE Bodyography Nail Lacquer in #Glossybox. Value = $8.50

FULL SIZE Jouer Tint lip and cheek color in whisper. Value = $20.00

FULL SIZE Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert Eau de Cologne & Perfumable Ceramic. Value = $35.00

The total value of the first O's Circle of Friends box is $122.27. The box came in the regular GlossyBox shipping container which confused me since I had already received my GlossyBox this month. I was pleasantly surprised and excited when I saw that it was the Oprah box. I was wondering when I would receive it since I subscribed in October. I'm happy with the box for the most part. I love the Blvgari parfume and the set they sent is pretty cool. I will definitely use the mascara and hand cream. I'm not to into BB cream and I have tons of lip stuff so I'm not sure I'll use those items.

The subscription itself I'm not too impressed with. I've been getting the weekly newsletter, my magazine,  a Christmas card and now this box. I have yet to get a surprise gift or any products I can test and keep. I'm hoping this will change real soon.

Verdict: The premier subscription is not worth the money so far. I will update if that changes.

December Beauty Box 5

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription service for beauty products including makeup, skin care, fragrances, nail care, body care, beauty tool and just about anything else beauty related.  Each month you receive 4-5 samples of beauty related items.  They have three ways to subscribe.  You can pay monthly for $12 a month, or quarterly $30 which brings the price down to $10 a month or yearly for $100 which brings the price down to $8.33 a month.  Shipping is included in all these prices.

Price: $12 a month with no option to skip. Discounts for 3 and 12 month plans.

This subscription ships the the US and Canada from Austin, Texas.

The good:

The brands.  Well known brands including some eco-friendly ones.

The pricing structure.  I like the options they have, monthly, quarterly and yearly.  Even the quarterly gives you a little bit of a discount.

Information: They have started including an information cards on the products in the boxes which I love

The not so good:

Skip a month. Currently there is no option for this.  If you want to skip you have to cancel.

December Beauty Box 5 - Merry & Bright

Contents of box with approximate retail value.

2 oz. Jaqua Raspberry Buttercream Frosting Hand Créme. Value = $12.50

Absolute! New York Nail Polish Remover Pads. Value = $2.99

.26 oz. Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Moisturizer. Value = $9.95

Nanacoco nail polish in Sweeter than Sweet. Value = $3.95

.04 oz. Lucky Brand Lucky Number 6 Eau de Parfume. Value = $1.25

The total approximate value of this month's box is $30.68. When I looked through this box the first thing that came to mind was stocking stuffers. That's exactly what I'm going to do with a few of these items. I didn't open the lotion yet but I can smell it through the packaging and it smells yummy. I was wondering though what meadowfoam seed oil is? Have you ever heard of such a thing? Anyhow I googled it and it's a real thing. The meadowfoam is a flower native to Northern California (who knew?) and the seeds are used in cosmetics frequently.

Verdict: I'm happy with this months box. It had items I will definitely use as stocking stuffers.

November Taste Guru Box

Do you live a gluten free lifestyle? Or maybe you know someone who is gluten free? Taste Guru is a whole box of food that is gluten free. Each month Taste Guru sends out a box of gluten free foods that have been tested and reviewed by those who live a gluten free life. The box is shipped monthly and the prices ranges from $20 to $24 a month depending on which plan you sign up for. All plans include shipping.

I have sort of a love/hate relationship with Taste Guru right now. I was happy with the October box and anxious to see what the November box had in store but it never showed up. I emailed the company and they said my account was inactive. I don't know why I'm having so many issues with this subscription but it's getting very frustrating. I was sent the November box which is fine but it's now December. On their Facebook page it says the December box is sold out. I still have two more boxes owed to me after this one so I'm hoping December is on it's way to me.

Price: $24 a month with discounts for 3, 6 and 12 month plans.

This box ships to the USA only from Denver, Colorado.

The good:

Gluten free made easy: This is a great way to try a whole bunch of gluten free foods.

Need a gift: I think this would make a great gift for the gluten free person in your life.

The not so good:

I'm having issues with my subscription but I'm hoping that's not typical with everyone else.

November Taste Guru Box

Magazine in this months box.

Contents of Taste Guru Box with approximate retail value:

Namaste Foods Seasoned Coating Mix Barbecue Coating Mix. Value = $4.69

.5 oz. Fusion Jerky Rosemary Citrus Artisan Turkey Jerky. Value = $1.08 - I would definitely buy this again. Great flavor!

.5 oz. Fusion Jerky Garlic Jalapeño Artisan Pork JerkyValue = $1.08 - I was afraid this would be too hot. It has some heat but nothing that made me run for the ice bucket.

.5 oz. Justin's Nut Butter Chocolate Hazelnut. Value = $0.83

.5 oz. Justin's Nut Butter Honey Peanut Butter Value = $0.50

FLYJOY Energy Bar in Blueberry Almond. Value = $1.66

Vivians Tomato & Herb Soup Mix. Value = $1.12

The Bacon Jams Original Bacon Spread. Value = $14.99

Living Without's Gluten Free & More Magazine. Value = $5.95

Bonus Items:

Baobob Drink Mix in Meyer Lemon. Value = $1.92

Baobab Drink Mix in Peach Mango. Value = $1.92

The total value of this box is $42.68. Even though I had issues getting this box I was very happy with it. The Pik-Nik potato things are so delicious! I would definitely buy those again. I've had The Bacon Jams stuff before also. I noticed they changed their labels but I'm hoping not their product because it was very tasty. I also thought the fusion jerky was really good and I'm glad the jalapeño wasn't too spicy. I felt bad hiding these from the boyfriend but he always gets the jerky and I really wanted to try it. I'm very curious about the tomato soup mix. The photo on the package makes it look more like tomato bisque which I love.

Verdict: This box is great in product and value. I have 2 more boxes coming....hopefully.

December Blush Beauty Box

Blush is a company that is associated with Dermstore and Blush offers a monthly mystery beauty box.  You can make a one time purchase for $34.95 or subscribe monthly for $24.95.  Both prices include shipping. It made absolutely no sense to me to pay $10 more when I could just cancel the subscription if I didn't like it.  Each month Blush says they will send a box full of products handpicked by their panel of beauty experts of mostly full size and some travel-size products worth at least $100.

Price: $24.95-$34.95 a month with no option to skip.

I believe this subscription is available to the US only, they don't really say on their website.

The good:

Price: If they continue to send great products with a value of at least $100 that's 4 times the value.

Want more: Since they have a retail website reordering is easy and all these products were easily found.

The not so good:

Price: This is one of the higher priced subscriptions but the products are usually high end.

Skip: Their website is not user friendly.  I couldn't find an option to skip or cancel.

December Blush Beauty Mystery Bag.

Close up of the colors of the makeup items. Doesn't the Nuxe product look like it should be nail polish?

Contents of Blush box w/approximate retail price listed:

FULL SIZE Klorane Shampoo with Desert Date. Value = $15.00

FULL SIZE Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in True Teal. Value = $12.00

FULL SIZE Avéne Cleanance Gel Soap Free Gel Cleanser. Value = $20.00

1 oz. Keranique Scalp Stimulating Shampoo. Value = $3.75

FULL SIZE Paula's Choice Shine Stopper. Value = $16.10

1.3 oz. Ahava Deadsea Water Mineral Body Lotion. Value = $3.77

FULL SIZE Cargo Cosmetics eyeshadow in OZ. Value = $16.00

.33 oz. Nuxe Multi-Purpose Dry Oil Shimmer for face, body & hair. Value = $5.80

.04 oz. LipFusion Lipstick in Babydoll. Value = $9.21

.17 oz. Clean Cool Cotton Eau de Parfum. Value = $6.50

The total value of of this Blush Beauty Bag is a $108.13. I am excited by this box. It's full of useful things like shampoo and lotion but always has fun new stuff to try. I totally thought the Nuxe product was nail polish. I'm glad I read bottle before I used it on my nails. I bet it would have been a nice moisturizer for my cuticles though. I wish the Cargo eyeshadow were a different color although I guess this would be a good base color. I think I will give the shine stopper a try this weekend for a party we are going to. I looked at pics from last year and I had a couple of shiny spots. I'm kind of overloaded on face cleanser right now but I definitely going to try this soapless formula from Avéne.

Verdict: Blush beauty always has a great value and often sends 2-3 full size products.

December Birchbox

Birchbox is a monthly subscription service for beauty items like makeup, skincare, fragrance, etc.  Each month you will receive 4-5 generously sized samples and sometimes full size beauty products.  The cost of this service is $10 w/shipping included.  They also have a yearly subscription which is $110 for the year bringing the cost down to $9.16 a month. I had canceled this subscription last year because I didn't like what they were sending me. A friend signed up and was getting some pretty cool items so I decided to sign up again.

Price: $10 a month or $110 a year pre-paid.

This subscription is available in the US only.

The good:

Name Brands.  You will receive items from Benefit, Stila, Pür, Essie, Kerastase, Tarte, etc.

Cost.  For $10 you can give yourself a little beauty treat.

Like surprises?  You don't know what's in your box until you receive it.  When you sign up you take a little quiz and the items in the box are supposed to be customized to you.  I have seen pictures of other peoples boxes and they do receive different items.

Discounts: They have a system where you earn points for referrals and things you buy.  The points allow you to receive discounts on future full size purchases from their shop.  They offer free shipping on items from the monthly box and a $5 flat shipping rate for items that don't qualify for free shipping.  This is a nice feature because if you want to order several different brands you get free or $5 shipping for everything.

Need a gift? You can gift a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription or you can purchase a gift card in any amount.  There also have a nice option with the gift subscriptions where you can choose to have the 1st box shipped you for giving and subsequent boxes will be shipped directly to the recipient.  Great birthday/holiday gift!

The not so good:

Skip a month?  Currently there is no option to skip a month only cancel.

Look how pretty the box is this month.

December Birchbox

Contents of box with approximate retail price/value listed.

.17 oz. Coola Mineral Sunscreen. Value = $3.60

.17 oz. Embryolisse moisturizing cream. Value = $1.87

1 oz. Hayadi Relief Hair Mask. Value = $2.64

1 oz. Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. Value = $9.00

.05 oz. Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Paris. Value = $7.07

Coupon for $10 off at The Gap

The total value of this box is $24.18. The high value item is the dry shampoo which would be fantastic if I used dry shampoo. My hair is short so I don't wash it everyday but I get it wet everyday. I'll put this in the trade pile, I'm sure someone will love it. All the other treasures are great. The sunscreen and moisturizing cream will both get used and I like the small size for travel. I like the color of the lip stuff also and I hear matte is making a comeback. I'm always using hair and face masks so the hair mask is cool by me.

The verdict: This box was ok. I wish dry shampoo was real shampoo but you can't win it all.

December Special Edition Holiday Glossybox

Every year GlossyBox has a holiday limited edition box. The price of the box is $40 with a promised value of $140 and most of the products are full sized. They always show you what is in the box which is nice and I thought the box looked like it had some fun stuff in it but I had decided to pass. Then they threw out a deal I couldn't pass up. I think it was a black Friday deal but I was able to get this box for $20.

This is still available at GlossyBox.

This years box is red velvet lined and so purrrty. The top is attached and it has a magnetic closure.

The holiday boxes are always a little more fancy than the regular boxes.

GlossyBox Holiday Treasures.

Contents of the 2014 Holiday GlossyBox:

Korres Volcanic Minerals Mascara. Value = $20.00

The Lip Bar Lipstick in Crimson Wonderland. Value = $25.00** This was missing from my box but I emailed GlossyBox and they are sending me one.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour Concentrates in Smote. Value = $14.00

NCLA Nail Lacquer in Satin Sheets. Value = $16.00

.5 oz. Calvin Klein Reveal Parfume. Value = $26.47

Teadora Nourishing Lip Butter in Rainforest at Dawn. Value = $15.00

Cargo TexasLiner Liquid Eye Liner. Value = $20.00

Jouer Lip Gloss in Wind. Value = $20.00

The total value of this holiday box is $156.57. Not a bad deal for $20.00! It's also still a good deal a $40.00. I was really looking forward to the Lip Bar lipstick because it looked so pretty. I'm confident they will send me one but with the holidays I'm not sure how long it will be.  I like the shape of the Calvin Klein perfume. I'm guessing it's new because I've seen a few samples in other boxes. The nail polish is very pretty and holiday-ish but I have some many reds already that I might trade this.  The Cargo eyeliner is like a big sharpie marker. I wonder if it's called Texas because everything is bigger in Texas.

Verdict: I thought it was a great deal for $20 but even for $40 is still a deal if you will use at least half the items.

2014 Special Edition Holiday Must Have

Close up of the nail polish.

Contents of the PopSugar Special Edition Holiday 2014

Loeffler Randall python embossed leather Envelope Clutch. Value = $70.00

Turkish-T Diamond Throw designed exclusively by PopSugar. Value = $65.00

RMS Beauty Living Luminizer & Brightening Brush. Value = $50.00

Illume Gilded Amberleaf Metallic Knob Tin. Value = $23.50

Kate Somerville Exfolikate. Value = $22.00

Habit Cosmetics 21 Nefertiti. Value = $18.00

Droga Chocolates Money on Honey. Value = $7.95

The total value of this Holiday Special Edition Box is $256.45. It's amazing how many throws you can accumulate through subscriptions boxes. I had no idea. I'm not really a clutch person but this one I kinda of like. I like that it's a neutral color but it's so thin I'm not sure what it will really be able to hold without looking bulky. I love, love, love exfolikate and was super excited to see this in the box. Seriously people exfolikate and Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion are the best scrubs every created, worth every penny. I have no idea how to use the luminizer stuff. I'm guessing you use the brush and highlight certain areas on the face. I feel like I need a little tutorial before I break it open since it's so expensive. I love the bottle the nail polish comes in, better than the nail polish color. The candle comes in a super pretty tin and would make a great gift since the tin is reusable and pretty.

Verdict: Four of the items would definitely make great gifts if you're still shopping.

Winter Walmart Beauty Box

Walmart recently ventured into the subscription box market with a beauty box. The box will be shipped 4 times a year for spring, summer, fall and winter. The best part of this box is the price. Ready for it? It's just $5 per shipment to cover shipping and handling costs. Yep it's only $5 per box. My guess is these are brands that Walmart has a contract with and they probably get the items for free which is why the box is only $5 to cover shipping costs.

Price: $5 per season shipped 4 times a year.

The Good:

Price: $5, doesn't get much lower than that.

Drugstore brands: I love getting luxury products but they can be pricey to buy. This box will contain items that can be found at Walmart which means reasonably priced.

The Not So Good:

Drugstore brands: If you're not into drugstore brands then this is probably not the box for you.

Contents of the Walmart Beauty Box with Walmart prices listed:

L'Oréal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Golden Serum. Value = $??

L'Oréal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day CreamValue = $??

.34 oz. L'Oréal Color Vibrancy Shampoo. Value = $0.11

.34 oz. L'Oréal Color Vibrancy Instant Shock TreatmentValue = $0.30

.34 oz. L'Oréal Color Vibrancy ConditionerValue = $0.11

.24 oz. Olay Tone Perfecting Moisturizer. Value = $3.09

1 oz. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. Value = $0.50

1.75 oz. Pond's Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream. Value = $2.24

Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelettes 5 pack. Value = $0.78

.14 oz. Nivea Cocoa Butter Body Lotion. Value = $0.05

.28 oz. John Frieda Touchably Full Shampoo. Value = $0.18

.28 oz. John Frieda Touchably Full Conditioner. Value = $0.18

The total value of the Walmart box is $7.54. At least it was more than $5 but I think the value of the first box spoiled me a bit. Even so I will use all the stuff in this box. I know people don't like foil packets of shampoo, etc but I don't mind it at all. I have a stack sitting by the shower. I haven't bought shampoo in months! Same thing goes for the face towelettes. I use those everyday and I've been able to try a wide variety of them.

Verdict: Can't beat the price and I was happy with the products.

December Fancy - Food Box

The Fancy Food Box includes 5 or more gourmet artisan food products. The Fancy Food box is priced at $39.00 plus $7.95 shipping. This is a little high but if you are into food products they send out some really cool stuff and so far the value has been over the $48 price of the box. I also think this would make a great holiday gift for the food lover in your life.

Price $47.95 a month with no option to skip.

This subscription is available worldwide, shipping prices vary on location.

The good:

Sizes: You get full size food items! Also every now and then they throw in a kitchen gadget.

Products: They really do sent gourmet and artisan foods and products.

The not so good:

Skip: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel but the cancel process is online and super simple.

Price: The price is a little high but the value always surpasses the price paid.

December Fancy Food Box.

Contents of The Fancy Food Box with approximate retail price listed:

Red Rocker Candy, Rocking Chair Mix. Value = $8.00 - Can't really go wrong with chocolate covered snacks.

Original Korean BBQ Marinade We Rub You. Value = $8.00

Hot Cakes Peanut Butter Bites. Value = $15.00 - I was expecting something different from the description but they are basically tasty little balls of peanut butter covered in cocoa.

Annalisa All Natural Chocolates. Value = $13.95 - Truffles? Yes, please. This are decadent.

Raley's Holiday Mix Candy. Value = $5.00

Raley's Emoticandy. Value = $5.00

The total value of this months box is $54.95. This is definitely what I would describe as a holiday goody box. It was a good thing we had just finished eating dinner when I opened this box or I may have devoured all the sweet treats. The emoticon candies are really cute and the holiday ones with the stripes are fun looking. I love Korean BBQ and have seen this marinade but haven't tried it yet.

Verdict: The Fancy boxes are always full of yummy things to try.

December Julep - Bombshell Box

Julep is a monthly subscription company for nail polishes. When you sign up for Julep you take a little quiz and it will tell you what kind of polish girl you are.  You are not obligated to stay with that that type though.  When I first signed up the website said I was Boho Glam but liked the It Girl colors better so I picked that one and as you can see I went with neither of those options this month. You can join as a Julep maven for $24.99 a month which will get you $40+ worth of polish and products. You can also sign up for a prepaid 3 month subscription for $60 which brings it down to $20 a month. The next level subscription is Julep Maven luxe. This program is priced at $39.99 a month and you will get $60+ worth of prestige products. This also has a 3 month prepaid option for $105.00 which brings it to $34.99 a month. The benefit of these new plans is that each box is completely customizable which, as I understand, means you can pick they nail polish colors you want from any of the style profiles. Since I'm signed up under their old pricing plan ($19.99/month not customizable) I had the option of switching my subscription to one of these new tiers but I haven't switched yet.

The good:

The colors: If you like nail polish then it's a nice way to experiment with multiple colors

Need a gift? If you want to send your box to a friend there is an option to do so.  Just log on to your account and click send to friend.

Ingredients: Julep is 4-free which means it's formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene or DBP free.

Want the polish but not the commitment?  You can buy the polish online at Julep.com or in Sephora stores.  The cost is $14 so if you like polish then becoming a Maven is a better deal.  If you want to try it out first you can always pick one up at Sephora or online.

Swatches: I love how every month Julep shows what the color looks like on actual nails and shows it on different skin tones.

Referral program. You earn "Jules" for referrals, purchases, anniversary, birthday and upgrades.

Skip a month? YES. They recently changed it so ALL mavens have the ability to skip after purchasing their first monthly box.

The not so good:

Now that they have brought back the skips I couldn't think of anything that wasn't so good.

December Bombshell Box

Zenith eyeshadow

Contents of Modern Beauty box w/retail price:

Paula, Bombshell, Persian Blue with Gold Microshimmer . Value = $14.00/$11.20

Soleil, Bombshell, Lustrous Rose Gold Chrome . Value = $14.00/ $11.20

Orbital Eyeshadow in Supernova, charcoal with electric orchid pearlescence. Value = $18.00/$14.40

Add-On

Orbital Eyeshadow in Zenith, Cocoa with gold pearlescence. Value = $18.00/$14.40

The approximate value of my Bombshell Maven box is $46.00 or 36.80 using Maven pricing. I can't remember how much the extra eyeshadow was to add-on because I used jules for that. I'm am loving the intense color of the eyeshadows. I read somewhere that Julep was going to branch out and do more makeup products. I wonder if they have out nail polished themselves? You can only create so many colors before they all start looking the same.

Verdict: Love the colors in this months box!
