May Quarterly Co. Box - Veronica Belmont #NOM07

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  It's not a monthly adventure but rather quarterly.  The way it works is you pick a "contributor" you would like to receive a curated gift from pay a anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each box you receive the story behind it.  The curators consist of CEO's, authors, chefs, world travelers, business owners, etc. Veronica Belmont is a self described geek from San Francisco.  Her boxes are filled with delicious and creative food options from the city by the bay.

This subscription ships worldwide. Shipping is included in the price for US customers. For Canada add $10 shipping to the base price and everyone else add $15 shipping to the base price. I also found it interesting that this box shipped from El Dorado Hills, Ca which is a few hours from San Francisco but about 45 minutes from where I live.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you since they ship every 3 months.

#NOM07 from Veronica Belmont

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

(2) Clay Dipping Bowls from Clay Savant in Oakland, Ca. Value = $5.00/ea.

Bandar Monkey Foods Mint Cilantro Chili Sauce. Value = $3.99

Sosu Srirachup. Value = $7.50

Rootcup Planter. Value = $16.00

(2) Rootcups. Value = $5.00/ea.

The value of this box is $47.49. There was a delay in getting this box because of the dipping bowls. They were made especially for this box and the colors compliment the cilantro and srirachip sauce. The bowls themselves are pretty small and feel delicate so I will have to be extra careful with these cuties. The sauces look interesting. I like ketchup and I like sriracha in small doses. I'm going to have to test it out to see just how spicy it is. I'm not sure how I feel about the rootcups. I do garden but I'm not good at growing cuttings. The little rootcups are used for growing cuttings to create new plants. The larger Rootcup Planter is for growing a plant. Both have a self watering system that keeps the plants and roots from getting moldy and keeps the plant hydrated. My mom has a Jade plant that used to mine that I might try and experiment on. It says it works great for succulents so maybe I'll start a succulent garden.

Verdict: The value is equal to the price paid. All of the products are new to me and I'm very curious about the sauces.

May Taste Trunk - Premium Gourmet Box

Taste Trunk is a food based subscription box. I love food, especially gourmet food so I didn't hesitate to sign up for this box. Taste Trunk actually has four different themed trunks you can purchase. They are Gourmet, Health, Sweet and BBQ trunk. I love that they have something for everyone. I get lots of health type foods and I don't need any sweets so I decided against these ones. I was torn between the BBQ one and the Gourmet one but ended up choosing the Gourmet one. The nice thing about Taste Trunk allows you to switch your boxes at anytime. I keep thinking I'm going to try the BBQ one at some point but I'm really liking this trunk. They also have 2 different size trunks. You can get the Gourmet trunk with 4-8 items for $23.99 plus $5.99 shipping each month. They also have the Premium Gourmet trunk with 5-10 items for $28.99 plus $5.99 a month. This is the one I subscribe to. If you want to subscribe for 3-12 months at a time you get a discount ranging from $1.05-$4.65 a month.

This subscription is available to the US only and ships from Discovery Bay, Ca.

The Good:

Products: The items in my box are gourmet and full size.

Info: They send info cards with products information and recipes.

Variety: I love that they have four different themed boxes.

Want more: They have an online store where you can purchase more of the things you love.

Change it up: Want a different trunk next month. You can change your trunks by emailing them

The Not So Good:

Skip: Doesn't look like there is a way to skip, only cancel.

Referral program: They have one but you have to enter the persons full name when you check out and they get 10% off their next box. I like referral programs that use links and have discounts or bonus items for both people.

May Premium Gourmet Taste Trunk

Contents of Taste Guru Box with approximate retail value:

Lillie's Q Hot Pepper Vinegar Sauce from Chicago, IL, Value = $8.00

Torie & Howard Pink Grapefruit Hard Candy from New Milford, CT. Value = $4.99

Gourmet Du Village Lemon Dill Dip Mix w/whisk from Morin Heights, Canada. Value = $8.99

Gourmet Du Village Provence Seasoned Sea Salt from Morin Heights, Canada. Value = $5.99

Gourmet Du Village Classic Dip Bowl and Spreader. Value = $9.99

The total value of this box is $37.96. I saw a review on another site and she received bbq instead of the vinegar sauce. I really wish I got the bbq sauce. I'm just not sure I'll use a hot pepper vinegar sauce. I like a little spice but this looks hot. I thought it was nice of them to include a bowl to go with the dip mix. I was actually thinking of saving both those item for a gift. Although when I give food items I like to try them first to make sure it's good. I have tons of sea salt, ok well not tons but probably 6-8 different varieties in my pantry. But guess what I don't have? I don't have provence seasoned salt, I'll be giving this a try. I've received the pear flavored hard candy in another box and they were really good. I'm hoping the peach is just as yummy.

Verdict: Last month they said the boxes would start including kitchen tools, hence the bowl. I like it and am glad they are mixing it up.

May Nibblr Box

Nibblr is a snack box company very similar to Graze box. They send portion control snacks all wrapped up in a little sealed box. Each shipment contains four snack boxes. You can choose to receive a shipment every week, every other week or once a month. You don't get to choose which snacks you receive but they have rating system on their website for the snacks they send. Your ratings will determine snacks in future shipments. They have 59 different boxes so they is surely something for everyone. The price per shipment is $5.99 which includes shipping. You can choose to pay for four boxes at at time for $23 ($5.75/shipment) or twelve boxes for $66 ($5.50/shipment). I had found a deal through Gilt City to get twelve shipments for $40 which makes it under a $1 per snack pack. That sounded like a great deal to me. I opted to have my boxes shipped once a month.

The good:

Snacker? If you're a snacker like me this is a perfect little box. Portion controlled and portable.

Nutritional info: Printed on the back of the container which I love.

Customize shipments: You can choose how often you want a box. Choose wisely though I couldn't see a way online to change it back. Also you get to rate the items and say love it, like it, interested or no thanks.

Referral: Use my referral code 4051 when signing up and you will get a free box.

The not so good:

Price: Depending on how you pay the price ranges from $1.37-$1.50 a box.

Skip: I couldn't find any sort of skip or vacation hold option.

Contents of box:

Sesa-Me & You, Sesame honey almond snack mix.

Georgia on My Mind, peaches, blueberry pomegranate fruit pieces, sweet and spicy pecans snack mix.

Wasabelove, corn nuts and wasabi peas snack mix.

The Sweet Life, peaches, blueberry and pomegranate pieces, and golden raisins snack mix.

I like these boxes and as I predicted they were a big hit in my house like the graze boxes. I'm not a big fan of the regular price but convenience doesn't always come cheap. If you want to try it out sign up and use my referral code 4051 and get your first box free.

Verdict: I like these boxes for the convenience and portability.

May ipsy bag - Fresh Picks

Ipsy bag sends out 4-5 samples and a makeup bag for $10 a month with shipping included. If you sign up yearly it's $110 which brings the price down the $9.16 a month with shipping included.  I've been with them for almost two years and this is one subscription I am for sure keeping. They constantly have a high product value with products that I use.

This subscription is available to the US and Canada and ships from Harrisburg, NC.

The good:

The samples: Usually you get at least one full size product in each bag.

The packaging: Each month the products come in a cute makeup bag for all your goodies.

Discounts: The almost always offer a discount on any additional purchases you want to make.

Semi-customized: You take a little quiz and your bag is semi-customized with products you will enjoy.

Points: You can earn points for reviews and referrals. You can redeem points for extra goodies in your bag.

The not so good:

Skip a month? There is no option to skip a month.  You have to cancel.

Renewal. If your a yearly subscriber they automatically charge your credit card for another year when the paid for year is up. I think they should sent out an email prior reminding you that your year is almost up and it will automatically renew.

May ipsy bag - fresh picks

Contents of bag with value and approximate retail price:

1 oz. Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF50. Value = $2.17

Travel Size Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask. Value = $12.00

FULL SIZE Pacifica Mineral Eye Shadow Duo #1. Value = $5.00??

FULL SIZE Lulu Blossom Dreamsicle Body Balm. Value = $10.00

.25 oz. Mee Beauty Bee Nourished Night Cream. Value = $3.75

The approximate value of this months bag is $32.92. I was so happy to get an bag of all things I love. I think I finally answered my profile questions and did enough reviews so they get the idea of what I like. I couldn't find anything on the Pacifica eyeshadow, the link on the ispy site didn't work. I'm guessing on the $5 price. I will definitely use the sunscreen this summer as well as the hair mask. I'm all about keeping my hands, elbows and all the other dry bits moisturized during this hot summer. I've been using different night creams and this one looks interesting. It says it's blended with pure honey and it's the fourth ingredient. I'm willing to try it.

Verdict: ipsy is one of my favorite subscriptions for their great products and terrific pricing.

May Fancy - Food Box

The Fancy Food Box includes 5 or more gourmet artisan food products. The Fancy Food box is priced at $39.00 plus $7.95 shipping. This is a little high but if you are into food products they send out some really cool stuff and so far the value has been over the $48 price of the box. I also think this would make a great holiday gift for the food lover in your life.

This subscription is available worldwide, shipping prices vary on location.

The good:

Sizes: You get full size food items!

Information: They include a nice card with the product information and picture.

Products: They really do sent gourmet and artisan foods and products.

The not so good:

Skip: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel but the cancel process is online and super simple.

Price: The price is a little high - unless of course it has great products and a high value.

This is the new product card Fancy is sending. I like it better than the little cards.

May Fancy Food Box.

Contents of The Fancy Food Box with approximate retail price listed:

Sfoglini Pasta Shop Pasta Trumpets. Value = $7.00

Trentasette Genovese Truffle Pesto. Value = $8.00

Scarpetta Tuscan Vodka Sauce. Value = $6.99

Grey Ghost Lemon Sugar Cookies. Value = $9.00 - Perfect little lemon cookie. I may just eat the whole bag.

New York Naturals Kale Krackers in Cheezy Dill. Value = $7.99

Saveur Easy Italian Cookbook. Value = $16.95

Recipe for Parmesan Herbed Polenta with Scarpetta Tuscan Vodka Sauce

Recipe for Grace 'n' Love old World Chicken (uses vodka sauce)

The total value of this months box is $55.93. What a delicious box of food this month. I've had the Scarpetta vodka sauce before and as I recall it was very yummy. I love the trumpet shaped pasta because it holds the sauce like a little cup. I can.not.wait to try the truffle pesto. It combines two of my favorite things, truffles and basil. I'm going to have to find the perfect pairing for this. Grey Ghost makes super delicious cookies and I happen to love anything lemon. I like kale and I like kale chips but I don't care much for the kale covered in flavoring. I'm hoping these will be different, especially with the dill on them. I thought the cookbook was really nice. It's been out for a year so I'm sure you can get it cheaper than the retail price. It's really a beautifully done and has some great recipes.

Verdict: The fancy food boxes rarely disappoint in value and products. I always look forward to this box.

May Eco Emi Box

Eco Emi is a monthly subscription service that sends a minimum of 5 eco-friendly/conscious products to your door for $15 a month w/shipping included.  They also offer 3 ($14 a month), 6 ($13 a month) and 12 month ($12 a month) plans. These have to be paid upfront but each one offers a discount. The products range from beauty, household, food, etc.  They send a really nice variety of items including food, beauty etc. You get a little bit of everything. It's something everyone is your house could enjoy.  My Eco Emi boxes are always nicely packaged and stuffed full of treasures.

This subscription is available worldwide (prices higher outside the US) and ships from St. Peters, Missouri

The good:

Price: Eco-friendly product samples can be difficult to find.  I appreciate being able to try these products for a fraction of the price of purchasing full size.

Eco-friendly: Every little bit helps

Variety: Not just beauty products.  You get food, home, drinks, etc.

Want more: Sometimes they have left over boxes that they sell after the subscriptions have been sent out.  The cost of these is $15 w/shipping included.  Kinda cool if you really like or know someone that would really like that months box.

Skip a month:  You can put your account on pause if you want to skip that month.

Information: They put a card in every box with information on the products as well as the price.

The not so good:

Payment: You have to set up a recurring payment through PayPal.  I don't like this because PayPal makes you use your PayPal balance before they take money from your checking/credit card.  I like to save my PayPal balance for misc eBay and Storenvy purchases.

May Eco Emi Vintage Theme Box

Contents of box with approximate retail price listed:

Aura Cacia Chill Pill Essential Oil, lavender & chamomile. Value = $10.99 - This says to use in a diffuser but if you don't have one you can put some on a tissue and inhale. It does smell really good and I can always use natural relaxation so I'm going to try it at night.

Glee Gum Wild Watermelon Sugar-Free Gum. Value = $1.09 - I'm not a fan of Glee Gum.

Ellbee's Sundried Italian Dip. Value = $5.00

Suncoat nail polish. Value $8.99

(3) Anna Natural Tea bags in Energize, Sweet Dreams & Cycle Ease. Value = $0.46/ea.

Body Brana Strawberries & Cream Facial Mask. Value = $10.50

Small Sample of Beazers Garden Berry Body Scrub. Value = $??

The total value of  this box is approximately $37.95. The dip looks delicious and easy to make. Just mix it with sour cream and cream cheese and done. The face mask looks like it could be messy. I think I will save that one for when I'm taking a bath. The suncoat nail polish is a nice bronze color. The boyfriend hates and I mean hates the smell of nail polish. This says it's water based so there is no smell. I'm definitely going to test it out and see if he notices. I took the Glee Gum to work, I'm sure someone will grab it. I took the bottle of essential oil with me to bed last night and took a couple of deep inhales from the bottle. After about the fifth inhale it became a little overpowering. I don't know if it worked, but it surely didn't hurt.

Verdict: This box had some great new products for me to try and it had a great value.

May Beauty Box 5

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription service for beauty products including makeup, skin care, fragrances, nail care, body care, beauty tool and just about anything else beauty related.  Each month you receive 4-5 samples of beauty related items.  They have three ways to subscribe.  You can pay monthly for $12 a month, or quarterly $30 which brings the price down to $10 a month or yearly for $100 which brings the price down to $8.33 a month.  Shipping is included in all these prices.

This subscription ships the the US and Canada from Austin, Texas.

The good:

The brands.  Well known brands including some eco-friendly ones.

The pricing structure.  I like the options they have, monthly, quarterly and yearly.  Even the quarterly gives you a little bit of a discount.

Information: They have started including an information cards on the products in the boxes which I love

The not so good:

Skip a month. Currently there is no option for this.  If you want to skip you have to cancel.

May Beauty Box 5 Fresh and Focused Box.

Contents of box with approximate retail value.

MaskerAide Hydrating Facial Sheet Mask. Value = $5.99

H2O Plus Aqualibrium Marine Cleansing Gel. Value $1.20

(3) Ban Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths. Value = $0.30/ea.

small vial Harvey Prince Hello fragrance. Value = $0.56

Cattiva Precisione Waterproof Eye Liner. Value = $20.00

The total value of this month's box is $28.65. This box was way better than last months. I love me a good face mask and this one looks fun. I've heard about the cooling body cloths and I'm wondering how it works. Is it just that they are wet so they cool you down? Anyway with 100+ degree days in my neck of the wood I'm sure I'll use them. I've received quite a few H2O products in these boxes and I don't mind them. This is a cleansing gel which I can always use. I'm going on vacation soon so I may take it with me. I have a whole ton of little perfume samples but I do enjoy trying different ones and I love the ones that have the little spray tops on them. The Cattiva eyeliner is the high value item in the box but I'm not a fan of waterproof eyeliner because it either never comes off or smears when you don't want it to. Anyone have experience with this brand?

Verdict: This box was way better than last months. I'm very curious about the cooling cloths.

May Rainbow Honey Full Size Mystery Bag

Have you heard of Rainbow Honey nail polish? They make super cool nail polish colors like Heisenberg of Breaking Bad fame which is a really pretty ice blue color. Rainbow Honey is sold mostly online. I believe they only have one retailer in the US down in San Diego. In March they started offering mystery bags and they were so popular that they made it a subscription service. Each Rainbow Honey mystery bag will have sneak peaks and preview of new lacquers, unreleased samples of future collections and exciting new products made by the Rainbow Honey Lab! They have two sizes of mystery bag mini and full size. The mini mystery bag is $10 plus shipping which I think is $3.95. The full size  mystery bag is $25 and includes shipping. The difference between the two bags, besides price is size of the products. The mini mystery bag will have the mini size bottles of nail polish and smaller versions of whatever is included in the bag. I debated on which one to get because I actually like the smaller bottle of nail polish. I have so many polishes that I never finish a bottle so the small ones are perfect for me. Then I thought for only $11 more I can get full size versions of everything. Decisions, decisions. Finally I decided on the full size mystery bag.

The good:

Price: $25 is kind of a lot on a subscription but $14 (with shipping) isn't so bad. I like that  they have two different price points.

Love what you got: The have a website full of stuff you can order.

Booklet: The include a booklet with info on the products.

The not so good:

Skip a month: I don't see a skip option

May Rainbow Honey Full Size Mystery Bag.

Aren't these colors great! They scream summer.

Contents of each mystery bag.

FULL SIZE nail polish in Waves. Value = $10.00 - From the upcoming summer collection.

FULL SIZE nail polish in Neon Blossom. Value = $10.00 - Summer Blossom's 2014 w/flowers & glitter.

FULL SIZE nail polish Petit Four. Value = $10.00 - Confection collection.

FULL SIZE Lip Balm in Enter Lime! Value = $5.00

FULL SIZE Rollerball in Summer Juice. Value = $12.50

FULL SIZE Shea Butter Soap in Summer Juice. Value = $??

.5 oz. Exfoliating Sugar Scrub in Summer Juice. Value = $??

(5) orange wood sticks. Value = $??

(2) applicators. Value = $??

The value of the mystery bag is at least $47.50 not including 4 of the items that I couldn't find info on. I love the way the summer juice item smell, I can't wait to use the soap and scrub. I was also really happy with the colors of the nail polish. The petit four color looks so fun and I think I can use the neon color for an accent nail to compliment the petit four. The wave color doesn't really go with the other two colors but it's definitely a color that reminds me of the ocean.

This months bag is no longer available but if you are interested in next months you can sign up now at Rainbow Honey.

Verdict: I'm so glad they are offering these mystery bags monthly now. Great products and great colors!

Special Edition GlossyBox - Mother's Day

This year Glossybox offered a mothers day box. The price of the box was $40.00 with shipping included. It was guaranteed to have 6 products worth $230. Even though I wasn't giving this to my mom I expected it to get here before mothers day. It didn't arrive until the Wednesday after mothers day which was 3 days later. The nice thing about the box was all the items are full sized except the Pureology and it came in a really pretty floral box which I will be saving for sure.

Mother's Day GlossyBox.

Contents of the Limited Edition Mother's Day Glossybox;

Caldrea Body Lotion in Tea Olive Lime. Value = $22.00

Bellapierre Mineral Lipstick in Envy. Value = $20.00

Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer. Value = $22.00

Modelco Fibre Lashxtend Mascara. Value = $24.00

Pureology Fresh Approach Dry Condition. Value = $9.00

Skin Inc. Custom-Blended Brightening Serum. Value = $135.00

The total value of this limited edition box is $232.00. Good Grief the serum is expensive! I wonder why some serums and creams are so expensive. What do they have that others don't? Or do they make them expensive so people will buy it thinking it must work? Either way I didn't pay $135 but I'm going to sure try it. I love pureology products. I have colored hair and its the best products for color, especially red. I also blow dry my hair almost every day so I wanted to give this Redken product a try. I can always use more mascara and body lotion. The only thing I may not use is the lipstick but maybe I can trade that on edivv for something else.

Verdict: I would buy this box again next year!

May Love With Food - Deluxe Box

Love with Food is a monthly subscription box filled with food. They now offer a deluxe size version of the box which contains 16-20 new snack foods. The price of this deluxe version is $19.95 a month with shipping included. You can also sign up for a 6 or 12 month plan each which will save you a couple of dollars a month. Also for each deluxe box purchased 2 meals are donated to hungry children in America. I decided to cancel my regular snack size box and subscribe to just this larger size box.

This subscription is only available in the US and ships from Santa Clara, California.

The good:

Bigger is better? I know some people don't like that the regular box is so small but it also comes with a small price tag. This deluxe box would be better suited for those with more than 2 people in their house. No more fighting over the tasty snacks!

Variety: You get a lot of variety in each box.

Discounts: You can earn points for discounts off future full size product purchases by submitting reviews on their website or referring new members.

The not so good:

I really can't think of anything I don't like about this box.

May Love with Food Derby Days Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value:

3 pack Revolution Tea in Honeybush Caramel, Southern Mint & Tropical Green. Value = $0.44/ea.

(2) 1.4 oz. bags Terre Di Puglia Tarallino Snack. Value = $1.32/ea. - These are like hard bread sticks, I actually really liked them.

(2) Flavrz Organic Tropical Peach Drink Mix. Value = $1.40/ea.

(2) 2 oz. bags One Potato Two Potato Sweet Potato Chips. Value = $0.99/ea. - I thought these were ok, the boyfriend liked them and ate the whole bag.

(6) Le Caramel Sea Salt Caramels. Value = $??

1.5 oz. bag J & M Key Lime Cookies. Value = $2.10

(2) 1.5 oz. Giddy Up & Go Granola. Value = $1.25

(2) small samples The Spice Lab Hickory Smoked Sea Salt. Value = $??

(2) small samples The Spice Lab Italian Black Truffle Salt. Value = $??

2 oz. South Georgia Pecan Company Praline Pecans. Value = $2.39

(2) .7 oz bags Bacon's Heir Malabar Black Pepper Pork Clouds. Value = $3.00/ea. - I didn't think I would like the pepper flavor on these but they were delicious and not too peppery.

The total approximate value of this box is $21.73 not including the salt and caramels. This is one of my favorite snack boxes and one box where I don't mind getting doubles of something. Luckily we had already eaten dinner before I opened this or I'm thinking it would've been devoured. I really like the Bacon Heir Pork Clouds and would love to try the other flavors. I like that they are cook in olive oil. I'm not a huge fan of the peach drink mixes because of the calories/carbs but the boyfriend will enjoy them for sure. The Terri Di Puglia Snacks were surprisingly delicious and would be good with a little dipping mustard I think.

Verdict:  This Love with Food box was great!

The BoodleBox - New Subscription Box launching soon.

The BoodleBox is so new it hasn't even started shipping yet. The folks at The BoodleBox contacted me and offered me a sneak peek at their launch box and I jumped on it.

The BoodleBox is a fun trendy subscription box for girls and they offer two different boxes. The first box is for girls ages 5-10 and the second box is for girls ages 11+. Each box will have 5-6 full and sample-sized products ranging from nail polish to funky pens and pencils, bath bombs to girls fashion jewelry. The price is $24.99 a month plus shipping. They also have 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions and each one offers a discount and/or free shipping. Also for the month of May they are offering $5 FedEx shipping for 1 and 3 month orders in the US. They are also giving away a Kate Spade Molly Mini Purse. Check out The BoodleBox for more info on how to enter.

The good:

Tweens & Teens: Now there is a box designed for those tweens and teens.

Info: The include an info card in every box.

Need a Gift: Now this is a cool gift. I would've love this when I was a tween/teen.

The not so good:

Cancel Fee: They charge a $19.99 early cancellation fee. I am thinking that fees applies if you cancel your 3,6 or 12 month subscription early.

Skip: I didn't see any options for skipping.

This is the actual shipping box. Love the fun design.

I was excited to open the box and see tissue over the goodies. It's like a surprise in a surprise.

Here are all The BoodleBox treasures.

But wait there's more....This cute little tote was under the other treasures. I love the lobsters!

Contents of The BoodleBox:

Nail Inc. nail polish in Williamson Mew. Value $4.17

.07 oz. PURR by Katy Perry perfume. Value = $1.71

Cina Nail Creations nail art decals in Steel Magnolia. Value = $4.69

SunKidGifts Lollipop bath Fizzy, blueberry bath bomb. Value = $2.50

Marina's Closet Ponytail Holder covered with Lilly Pulitzer fabric. Value = $3.00

(2) Neon Silicone Chain Bracelets. Value = $0.83/ea.

Lilly Pulitzer Lobstah Rail Market Bag. Value = $10.00

The total value of The BoodleBox is $27.73. It also should be noted that this box was not age specific. They wanted to send out a box showing the variety of products they include. With that being said I love all the stuff in this box and I'm in my 30's! Well maybe the neon bracelets I'm not to fond of but young girls love that stuff. I already know what little girl I'm giving them to. I'll also be honest and say I was ready to eat the bath fizz lollipop. It smelled so good and looked like a giant sugar cookie on a stick. I'm excited to use it in the bath though, I love bath bombs. The Katy Perry perfume smells really good, like a fruity floral mix. I'm totally going to use the nail decals but I might pass the nail polish on to the same little girl who I'm giving the bracelets to. I'm sure I have a similar blue in my polish collection. The ponytail holder is so cute, I'm definitely going to wear it. It is so cute I had to check out Marina's Closet Accessories on Etsy. She has all kinds of hair bobs with super fun designs. I actually stopped writing this post to look around her site. The last item in the box was this super fun lobstah shopping tote, I love it.

Verdict: I thought this was a fun box and young girls will love it! Heck I loved it and I'm far from my tweens or teens.

Magazine: You get a free 12 month subscription to Allure magazine.  If you already subscribe they will extend your subscription and if you don't want it you can mail in a form for a refund on the value ($12)

Coupon: They send you a coupon with each box for $15 off a $50 purchase. The catch is your order has to include at least one item from a brand you received that month.  It doesn't have to be the item you received just the same brand.

Referrals: It's a win/win. You get a $5 credit on your account or you can donate that to charity and the person you refer gets a 20% discount on their first purchase at Beauty Bar.

The not so good:

Skip a month: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel.

Subscription discounts: They don't offer discounts for multiple months unless you gift a 12 month subscription. Then you get 12 months for the price of 11.

May Sample Society Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value.

.17 oz. Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream. Value = $3.90

.34 oz. Dermalogica Age Smart Dynamic Skin Recovery. Value = $13.00

.5 oz. Borghese Fango Body Refining Polish. Value = $3.06

.4 oz. Sonja Dakar Flash Facial Exfoliating Treatment. Value = $39.60

.125 oz. Murad T-Zone Pore Refining Serum. Value = $2.63

The total value of this box is $62.19. This box of treasures is near perfect for me. I couldn't believe how expensive the flash facial product is! Results in 1 minute? We will see. I hope it works. I've been able to try other Murad products through subscription boxes and even though everyone says I'm being ridiculous I feel like my pores are huge and dirty. My friend once told me my problem was looking into magnifying mirrors and any ones pores would look huge then. Which is true but that doesn't stop me from always looking to clean and reduce them. I'm also a big fan of body scrubs and I imagine this little container won't last long but that's ok. I know dermalogica is really good and I like that this has SPF protection. I'm not to into foundations but I have some of this juice beauty stuff from another box and I've been using it under my eyes on those "I'm so tired days" and it blends nicely.

Verdict: This months box is a hit!

May Blush Mystery Beauty Box

Blush is a company that is associated with Dermstore and Blush offers a monthly mystery beauty box.  You can make a one time purchase for $34.95 or subscribe monthly for $24.95.  Both prices include shipping. It made absolutely no sense to me to pay $10 more when I could just cancel the subscription if I didn't like it.  Each month Blush says they will send a box full of products handpicked by their panel of beauty experts of mostly full size and some travel-size products worth at least $100.

I believe this subscription is available to the US only, they don't really say on their website.

The good:

Price: If they continue to send great products with a value of at least $100 that's 4 times the value.

Want more: Since they have a retail website reordering is easy and all these products were easily found.

The not so good:

Price: This is one of the higher priced subscriptions but the products seem to be premium.

Skip: Their website is not user friendly.  I couldn't find an option to skip or cancel.

May Blush Mystery Beauty Box

Contents of Blush box w/approximate retail price listed:

FULL SIZE Glominerals Blush Duo. Value = $28.50

Bioxidea Cosmetics Miracle 24 Hand Mask. Value = $18.67

.16 oz. Miracle Skin Transformer Face. Value = $5.12

FULL SIZE Pur-lisse Pur-moist Hydra-Balance Moisturizer. Value = $55.00

.34 oz. Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil. Value = $13.10

.17 oz. Laura Geller Beauty Cool Lids Cream Eyeshadow in Silver Sands. Value = $12.50

The total value of of this blush beauty bag is a $132.89. I am always shocked at how expensive the Pur-lisse products are. They do make a good product though. I've tried the Bioxidea face masks and although I liked it I wouldn't pay full price for it. I had no idea they made hand masks also. I can't wait to try it out. They eyeshadow is something I will use. I used a silver eyeshadow a couple of weeks ago and really liked how it looked. I won't use the blush. I don't know why but I just never was into using blush. I'm sure I'll be able to trade it for something. I will probably use the Peter Thomas stuff this summer to counteract the dry air my skin get exposed to in this hot northern California weather. The last item is the miracle skin transformer. The first thing I noticed about this that it's expired. Yep expired in march. Now I know it's probably still usable but the SPF protection may not be effective. I was surprised that Blush Beauty would send out a product that's expired. I'm hoping it was just an oversight but I would be curious to know if this happened to anyone else.

Verdict: I can't wait to try the hand mask!

May PopSugar Must Have Box

The PopSugar Must Have Box is a monthly subscription box that is geared toward many aspects of your lifestyle.  It includes, food, beauty, fashion, tech, and all kinds of other treasures. The price of the box is $39.95 a month w/shipping included.  They also have 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions and each one saves you a little bit of money.

This subscription is available in the US only and ships from Gilroy, Ca.

The good:

Products: Full size products as promised and a nice variety of beauty, home etc.

Booklet: The include an info booklet in each box about the products.

Pricing structure: They have monthly, 3, 6 and yearly subscriptions.  Each one (except monthly) saves you a little bit of money.

Referrals: The offer a generous referral program.  Refer 2 people get a month free. 5 people 3 months free and 10 people is 6 months free.  I've was super lucky and 10 people used my referral link so I got 6 months free way back when I first started subscribing.

The not so good:

The price: $40 is a little high for a monthly box but you do get some really cool stuff with a value of way more than $40

Skip a month: There is no option to skip, only cancel.

Max Referrals: They only reward you for the first 10 referrals. I think they're referral program is very generous but I would like to see something beyond 10 referrals. Maybe some type of point system or discount.

May PopSugar Must Have Box

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Must Have Fitness:
Tone It Up, One Day Fat Blast DVD. Value = $15.00

Must Have Beauty:
Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser. Value = $45.00

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pool Boy Nail Polish. Value = $10.00

Must Have Home:
Zing Anything Citrus Zinger. Value = $17.00

Kerry Cassill Eye Mask. Value = $24.00

Must Have Food:
Hi I'm Skinny Sticks Multi-Grain Sweet Onion. Value = $4.00 - These had a nice flavor but were a little dry. They would be perfect with some type of dip.

The value of this box is $115.00. Honestly I was a little disappointed in this box. There was still a good value to the box for me but a few items I won't be using. Let's start with the Smell Bent product. I love the smell of this product. It's a combination of suntan oil, beach and summer. I don't know that I would pay $45 for it but I will definitely use it. The other thing I was excited about is the Zinger bottle. I keep seeing these type of water bottles and almost bought one and now I'm glad I didn't. I had strawberry infused water once at a hotel and it was fantastic. The Skinny Sticks were tasty but dry. I was thinking they needed some type of sour cream based dip to go with it but then it wouldn't be a low calorie snack. Maybe a greek yogurt based dip would be better. The items I weren't too thrilled with are the face mask. I actually use face masks but this one seems very basic and not worth $24. I've tried and tried to get into using workout DVD's but just don't use them. The nail polish is very summery but I'm sure in my collection of 100 nail polishes I have one that is a similar color, that has nothing to do with PopSugar though. I'm sure I can find homes for those items or trade them for something I really want.

Verdict: This months PopSugar was ok, I did get the water bottle I've been wanting and the smell good stuff smells great!

May Julep Maven Box - Bombshell

Julep is a monthly subscription company for nail polishes. When you sign up for Julep you take a little quiz and it will tell you what kind of polish girl you are.  You are not obligated to stay with that that type though.  When I first signed up the website said I was Boho Glam but liked the It Girl colors better so I picked that one and as you can see I went with neither of those options this month. They recently changed their pricing structure for new subscribers. You can join as a Julep maven for $24.99 a month which will get you $40+ worth of polish and products. You can also sign up for a prepaid 3 month subscription for $60 which brings it down to $20 a month. The next level subscription is Julep maven luxe. This program is priced at $39.99 a month and you will get $60+ worth of prestige products. This also has a 3 month prepaid option for $105.00 which brings it to $34.99 a month. The benefit of these new plans is that each box is completely customizable which, as I understand, means you can pick they nail polish colors you want from any of the style profiles. I had the option of switching my subscription to one of these new tiers but I haven't switched yet. Personally I really like being able to skip months and new subscribers can only skip once every 6 months.

The good:

The colors: If you like nail polish then it's a nice way to experiment with multiple colors

Need a gift? If you want to send your box to a friend there is an option to do so.  Just log on to your account and click send to friend.

Ingredients: Julep is 4-free which means it's formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene or DBP free.

Want the polish but not he commitment?  You can buy the polish online at Julep.com or in Sephora stores.  The cost is $14 so if you like polish then becoming a Maven is a better deal.  If you want to try it out first you can always pick one up at Sephora or online.

Swatches: I love how every month Julep shows what the color looks like on actual nails and shows it on different skin tones.

Referral program. You earn "Jules" for referrals, purchases, anniversary, birthday and upgrades.

The not so good:

Skip a month? Sort of. For those who signed up before November 2013 you can skip a month anytime. If you signed up after November you have to "earn" skips. You earn a skip every six months of being a member. So basically once you sign up you have to receive six months of boxes or if you don't want a box and it's been less than 6 months you have to cancel your membership. I'm not a fan of this change.

May Julep Maven Box

Contents of Modern Beauty box w/retail price:

Julep Plie Wand with over cap and precision brush. Value = $25.00 ($20.00)

Laree, Bombshell, Golden Pink Tafetta Shimmer. Value = $14.00 ($11.20)

Saaya, Bombshell, Golden Apricot Shimmer. Value = $14.00 ($11.20)

The approximate value of my Bombshell Maven box is $53.00 or $42.40 with maven pricing. This month the big deal item is the plie wand. This is supposed significantly in nail painting especially with your non-dominant hand. It came with a cap that goes over the current Julep caps. That cap is magnetic on top which is how the want attaches. It sounds more confusing that it is. Now some of you might be thinking "but the Julep caps are square. how does a round thing fit on a square cap" The answer is the square cap pulls off to reveal a round cap. This is also how you swatch the tops of the Julep lids. I haven't had a chance to try the wand yet. I've been reading some reviews and some people really like, some don't and others don't see a difference. Once I get a chance to use it I will definitely post my findings,.

Verdict: Love the colors in this months box!

May Skosh Box

Skoshbox is a food subscription box for Japanese snacks. Their slogan is "A taste of Japan at your doorstep". Skoshbox contains handpicked candies, snacks and accessories straight from Japan for $12 a month with shipping included.

This box is available in the US only and ships from Hawaii

The Good:

Like Asian snacks? This is a super fun snack box and all the products are sourced directly from Japan.

Price: Most of us don't have immediate access to these types of snack so I think $12 is a bargain.

Need a unique gift: The offer a 6 month gift subscription for $72.

The Not So Good:

Skip: There is no option to skip only cancel.

May Skosh Box

Contents of the Skoshbox:

Roanne Vanilla Wafers, baked vanilla wafer.

Bubble Gum in grape flavor.

Tamago Boro Cookies, ball-shaped potato/egg cookies.

Dried Ume, dried whole pickled plum.

Mizore Dama, hard candy in orange flavor.

(2) Fried Senbei, flash fried crisp rice cracker.

Yocchan Cut Squid, pieces of pickled cut squid.- This was super fishy and salty.

Oreo Raspberry, oreo stick in raspberry flavor - Japan exclusive! - I didn't care for the raspberry flavor.

Bourbon Lumonde Cookies, flaky chocolate coated cookie stick.

I am not going to try and calculate the value of this box. I would guess the value is not $12 but because these items are not readily available that adds to the value. The way I look at it is if you like this sort of thing and don't want to search for it yourself then it's worth the $12. These boxes get devoured within minutes of opening. It not just a mystery box but mystery food too! We have had things that we like more than others but have never hated anything in the box.

Verdict: We thought everything in this months box was delicious!

Quarterly Co. Food52 #F5208

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  It's not a monthly adventure but it's quarterly.  The way it works is you pick a "contributor" you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it.  The curators consist of CEO's, authors, chefs, world travelers, business owners, etc.  Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs are the creators of Food 52.  I very much enjoy cooking and experimenting with new ingredients and flavors.  The description of this service read: "The best home cooking is a blend of the practical and the inventive. Which may be why, as avid home cooks, we love objects with utility as much as those with great beauty. We’ll be sending you packages filled with nifty items for your kitchen and table—no superfluous gadgets or gewgaws but things you’ll want to use and display for decades, until your children attempt to snag them for their first kitchens."  Sounded perfect for me. The cost of this box is $50.00 per quarter with shipping included.

This is available in the US only and ships from El Dorado Hills, Ca

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Price: It used to be all subscriptions were $25.  Now they are $50-$100. I saw a picture of the box from Nina Garcia which is $100 and it had some fabulous stuff in it and well over $100 worth.

Quarterly Food52 Box #8

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

12 Soup Socks and 12 Herb Sachets. Value = $20.00

2 oz. jar Sel D'Antibes by Eric Ripert and La Boite. Value = $15.00

Vintage white metal soup spoon. Value = $5.00??

Allegheny Treeware wood spoon rest. Value = $8.00

The value of this box is $48.00. I was a little underwhelmed with this box with the exception of the salt. Eric Ripert is an amazing chef and I can only imagine he created a fantastic salt. The spoon rest is gorgeous but I have two on my stove already. I guess I could get rid of the plain black one I have and use this pretty wood one. It would also make a nice gift. That brings me to the soup spoon. I have so many spoons in my kitchen drawers it's almost ridiculous. This white spoon matches absolutely nothing I have but paired with the spoon rest it would be a great gift. I've actually been wanting to get some muslin bags but not for soup. I have a french lavender plant in my side yard that is huge! I bought it when it was 1 gallon and planted it to attract bees for pollination and because I wanted to help the dwindling bee community. I never imagined the thing would get so big. I trimmed it way down a couple of weeks ago but was thinking I should save the flowers and put then in little muslin bags. In addition to using these for soup flavoring I might use some for lavender scent sachets. Soup Socks? I've seen them but never used them. I don't make my own stock but I should. Actually let me take that back I do make my own shrimp stock but that's really simple. The hardest part is collection enough shrimp shells. The next time I roast a chicken or a bone in roast I'm going to make an effort to save the parts and use my new stock socks and made a stock. It has to be better than store bought right?

Verdict: This is a break even box but if you like kitchen items it's a fun box.

April Tea Sparrow Box

Tea Sparrow is a subscription service for loose tea and is based out of Canada. I had never heard of them and didn't realize is that this is the only service like this offered in the US. I was surprised to hear that so when the good people at Tea Sparrow offered to send me a box for review I jumped at the chance. I know there is a whole sub-culture of coffee and tea connoisseurs and there is an art to brewing the perfect cup of either. I enjoy both drinks but am by no means an expert in either. I like trying new flavors of tea and if you are a tea drinker this is a perfect way to sample some new varieties.  In fact Tea Sparrow's tag line is "A World of Tea at Your Door". That pretty much says it all. Each month you will receive four 1 oz. bags of loose leaf tea to try. Tea Sparrow says each shipment will make 35-65 cups of tea depending on if you like your tea weak or strong. So really you could have a cup of tea every day for a month, very cool. The price of each shipment is $20 with shipping included.

The good:

Variety: If you like trying different loose teas but get overwhelmed at the numerous jars at Whole Foods then give this a try.

Want more? Love a tea you tried. There is info on where to get more printed on each bag.

Perfect Cup? Each package tells you how much tea to use as well as temperature of water and steeping time.

Tea loving friend? You can send a gift subscription to the tea lover in your life.

Tea'd out this month? You can skip months or put your subscription on pause.

The not so good:

Price: This cost more than if you bought the tea individually yourself. Of course you would have to find them and pay shipping costs.

April Tea Sparrow Box

Contents of box:

Freedom Tea, blend of red and greed rooibos. Value = $3.00 - Rooibos is an anti-inflammatory and can help reduce histamine release and the allergic response. - This was so delicious! I would definitely  drink this again! Perfect flavor combinations!

Peppermint Tea, - The essential oils acts as a decongestant, anti-inflammatory and mild antibacterial. Value = $??

Milk Oolong, green tea - Great for skin allergies such as eczema while boosting immune system overall. - Value = ??I made this and even followed the directions. I like green tea and this didn't disappoint.

Apeldoorn's Blend, black tea. - fan favorite. Value = $3.00

The total value of this box is at least $12.00. I couldn't find info on two of the teas so I couldn't value them. I would guess they are worth at least the same as the others though. This month's box featured teas with a special emphasis on properties that will get your through allergy season. Now this information wasn't included in the box but in an email I received. I'm not sure if they sent that email to me because I'm reviewing the box or if they sent it out every month to subscribers. I found the information super useful though. Being an allergy suffer I'm always open to anything that will make the symptoms less.

If you want to give Tea Sparrow a try click on my link and enter the password "teas". You will get your first month for only $8. That's only $2 a pouch, what a great deal.

April GlossyBox

Glossybox is a monthly beauty subscription service that sends 5 travel size beauty items a month.  You can sign up monthly for $21/month, 6 months for $115 (breaks down to $19.16/month), or yearly for $220 (breaks down to $18.33/month).  Shipping is included in these prices. The price is higher than a lot of the other beauty companies but they include luxury items in their boxes. The company ships their boxes towards the end of the month so you will receive it at the end of the month or the beginning of the following month.

This subscription is available in the US (not including Alaska or Hawaii), Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

This month I received 2 boxes. I had enough points for a free box and I also renewed my subscription. I didn't time it right so I ended up with 2 boxes. The good news is I'm happy with the items this month so no loss for me.

The good:

The brands: They have well known quality brands like OPI, Zoya, Burberry, C.O. Bigelow, Ahava, Sebastian and other brands specific to other countries.

The sizes: They send deluxe size samples and usually at least one full  size item.

The box: I know it's just a box but it's a really nice sturdy box in a nice shade of pink.  The only logo is on the top and it's not very big.  That makes this box perfect for reusing for a gift box. I've also used them to store my extra beauty products.

Information. They provide information on the products you receive and how much the full size is priced at.  I like knowing this info up front and not having to search for it.

Free stuff: If you provide feedback on your products you earn glossydots which will eventually earn you a free box. You can also earn glossydots from referrals. You have to claim your free box before your subscription ends and becomes inactive. This can be tricky because you don't want to receive duplicate boxes.

The not so good:

The price: This can be a little high for some people but if you want to receive known/quality brands it's worth it.

April Glossy Box

Contents of box w/approximate retail value.

2 oz. Aqua Spa Relax Body Créme in Lavender + Chamomile. Value = $2.22

FULL SIZE Bellapierre Cosmetics Super Gloss in Vanilla Pink. Value = $24.50

1 oz. Caldrea Body Wash in Coconut Fig Leaf. Value = $1.57

Ciaté London Paint Pot in Snow Virgin. Value = $15.00

LASplash Cosmetics Eyeshadow Sealer/Base. Value = $9.00

The total value of my Glossybox is $52.29. I was a little disappointed to see the white nail polish in my box. White is not something I would wear but I did see someone put the OPI tints over a white polish and it looked really cool. Lotion and body wash is always something I can use and I like both of the scents so that's a bonus. The eyeshadow sealer says it will help keep glitter and shimmer shadows on your eyes. I'm definitely going to give this a try. The gloss is a nice color but I'm overrun with lip glosses right now so I may trade this one.

Verdict: Glossybox is pricier than other beauty boxes but it has great brands and value.
