Quarterly Co. Chef Ludo Lefebrve #LLQ01

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  It's not a monthly adventure but it's quarterly.  The way it works is you pick a "contributor" you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it. This box is from Chef Ludo Lefebvre who is often credit for revolutionizing fine dining in Los Angeles. Before the age of 30, Ludo had been named one of the World's 50 Greatest Chefs by Relais & Chateaux. I love food and cooking so this box sounded like it would be a great match for me. Sounded perfect for me. The cost of this box is $50.00 per quarter with shipping included.

Price $50 every 3 months. Option to purchase a one time box available for $50 plus $8 shipping.

This is available in the US only and ships from El Dorado Hills, Ca - although the box says it's packed in Los Angeles.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Chef Ludo Lefebvre #LLQ01 Box

Ludo's Essential Spices.

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Hedley & Bennett custom BBQ Mitt. Value = $12.00??

DCS BBQ Spatula with a serrated edge. Value = $25.20

Ludo's Essential French Provençal Barbecue Seasoning. Value = $6.67

Ludo's Essential Meat Seasoning Salt. Value = $6.67

Grill Magazine issue #1 by Fisher & Paykel. Value = $5.00?

Chef Ludo's Personal BBQ Recipe for Herbs of Provence Shrimp

The approximate value of this box is $55.54. This is very much an approximate because the BBQ mitt is custom designed by Chef Ludo and only available through this box. The DCS BBQ tool is part of a set of 5 and I couldn't find it sold separately. The same goes for the spices, they are only sold on HSN and in a set of 6. The grill magazine is available online but I feel like it's worth about $5. The BBQ mitt is super cute and thick. The only thing I would like more is for it to have a pocket to stick my hand in. The spatula is really heavy and has a nice grip handle. This is quality stuff for sure. The hand is long so you can turn your burgers without burning your arm. I'm always trying new spices and these ones smell delicious. The magazine has some really good recipes and articles in it. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Verdict: At first glance I wasn't excited about this box, but now I'm seeing the possibilities.

  1. I have to admit to being disappointed with this box. I expected more, especially for a first box from the curator. Except for the mitt, this feels like odds and ends left over from the end of the season.

    1. I was surprised to see BBQ stuff from him. He just doesn't seem like the BBQ type of guy but I'm loving the spatula!
