September GlossyBox - Harper's Bazaar Box

Glossybox is a monthly beauty subscription service that sends 5 travel size beauty items a month.  You can sign up monthly for $21/month, 6 months for $115 (breaks down to $19.16/month), or yearly for $220 (breaks down to $18.33/month).  Shipping is included in these prices. The price is higher than a lot of the other beauty companies but they include luxury items in their boxes. The company ships their boxes towards the end of the month so you will receive it at the end of the month or the beginning of the following month.

Price: $21 a month with discounts for 6 and 12 month subscriptions.

This subscription is available in the US (not including Alaska or Hawaii), Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

The good:

The brands: They have well known quality brands like OPI, Zoya, Burberry, C.O. Bigelow, Ahava, Sebastian and other brands specific to other countries.

The sizes: They send deluxe size samples and usually at least one full  size item.

The box: I know it's just a box but it's a really nice sturdy box. The regular boxes are pink and the special collaboration boxes vary in design and color. This box is perfect for reusing or for a gift box. I've also used them to store my extra beauty products.

Information. They provide information on the products you receive and how much the full size is priced at.  I like knowing this info up front and not having to search for it.

Free stuff: If you provide feedback on your products you earn glossydots which will eventually earn you a free box. You can also earn glossydots from referrals. You have to claim your free box before your subscription ends and becomes inactive. This can be tricky because you don't want to receive duplicate boxes.

The not so good:

The price: This can be a little high for some people but if you want to receive known/quality brands it's worth it.

Skip: There is no option to skip a month.

This month the box was a collaboration with Harper's Bazaar.

September GlossyBox

Contents of box w/approximate retail value.

FULL SIZE Essie Madison Ave-Hue nail polish. Value = $8.50

.1 oz. Benefit Cosmetics They're Real Mascara. Value = $7.67

Bvlgari Eua Parfumée Au Thé Blanc Conditioner. Value = $16.67

.51 oz. Vichy Liftactiv Night Moisturizer. Value = $15.15

FULL SIZE Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar: Metallic in Authentic. Value = $18.00

The total value of my Glossybox is $65.99. I have to say I had no idea that Bvlgari made a conditioner but I'm sure the reason I didn't know is that it's $45 a bottle. I spend a lot of excessive money but I'm not sure I can justify that. Needless to say I was thrilled to get this in a box so I can try it. The Essie perfume is a nice pink color. I've tried the Benefit mascara before but I wasn't super impressed even though I've seen it on other people and it looked great. Turns out I was doing it wrong. The directions say to put the wand horizontally and move it back and forth as opposed to brushing up for maximum effectiveness. The lip stuff is also interesting. You use it over lipstick to give it a metallic effect. Totally new to me but I'm willing to try it.

Verdict: Glossybox is pricier than other beauty boxes but it has great brands and value. I can't wait to try the conditioner.

September Urth Box

The Urth box tagline is "Discover a Healthier You". Well who doesn't want to do that? I recently found a deal on on Gilt for a 6 month subscription for $69. I thought for $12 a month, heck why not. Each month Urth box sends a box of healthy full size snacks for you to try. They have different types and sizes of boxes the choose from. You can choose a gluten free, diet, classic or vegan box. From that point you choose which size box you want. They have a small box (7-10 items) for $29 a month, medium box (12-15 items) for $39 a month, large box (20-24 items) for $59 a month. Shipping to US is included. If you choose a 3 or 6 month plan you can save up to $10 a month. So as you can see I got a really great deal on the small box plan.

Price: $19-$59 a month depending on size of box and plan.

This box is available to US and Canada but extra shipping fees apple to Canada.

The Good:

Variety: They have a variety of boxes to choose from depending on your dietary needs.

Products: They send full size products which is awesome!

The Not So Good:

Price: The price is a little high for a monthly box.

Skip: It doesn't appear there any way to skip.

September Urth Box

Contents of the Urth Box:

The Organic Candy Factory Gummy Worms. Value = $6.95 - These are gummy but they aren't chewy like a regular gummy worm.

.6 oz. Goldbaum's Pop Potato. Value = $0.64

.8 oz. Goldbaum's Multigrain Kale Chips in Piedmont BBQ. Value = $1.06 - I was shocked at how good these are, be forewarned though they have a little spice that sneaks up on you.

.8 oz. Simply Quinoa Chips in Sea Salt. Value = $0.73

Lenny and Larry's The Complete Cookie in Peanut Butter.  Value = $2.08 - At first I didn't like it but after a couple more bites it grew on me. What I don't like though is that's it's 2 servings in one cookie. Who eats half a cookie?

Dang Toasted Coconut Chips. Value = $2.50 - I can eat this whole bag, these are so good.

WaterWipes Sample. Value = $??

Skout Organic Trailpak Black Pepper BBQ Raw Pumpkin Seeds. Value = $4.49

Epic Xylitol Peppermint Gum. Value = $1.30

Oloves Tasty Mediterranean. Value = $1.50

Veggie-Go's Sweet fruit snack. Value = $1.49

The total value of this box is $22.74. For me this was a great deal because of the deal I was able to score on Gilt. If you are paying full price ($29) for this box then it's not such a great deal. I liked a lot of the products in this months box. I can't below how tasty the kale chips were. I was expecting them to be green but they were light in color and delicious! I ended up liking the cookie but hated that it was listed as two servings. Either make the cookie smaller and put two in the package or call it one serving. I cannot be trusted to eat only half a cookie!

Verdict: The value is disappointing but the products were good. I have 3 more months of these so we will see if the value increases.

September Love with Food - Deluxe Box

Love with Food is a monthly subscription box filled with food. They now offer a deluxe size version of the box which contains 16-20 new snack foods. The price of this deluxe version is $19.95 a month with shipping included. You can also sign up for a 6 or 12 month plan each which will save you a couple of dollars a month. Also for each deluxe box purchased 2 meals are donated to hungry children in America. I decided to cancel my regular snack size box and subscribe to just this larger
size box.

Price: $19.95 a month with a discount for 6 and 12 month plans. No option to skip.

This subscription is only available in the US and ships from Santa Clara, California.

The good:

Bigger is better? I know some people don't like that the regular box is so small but it also comes with a small price tag. This deluxe box would be better suited for those with more than 2 people in their house. No more fighting over the tasty snacks!

Variety: You get a lot of variety in each box.

Discounts: You can earn points for discounts off future full size product purchases by submitting reviews on their website or referring new members.

The not so good:

I really can't think of anything I don't like about this box.

September Spice Up Your Life Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value from Love with Food:

(2) 1.25 oz. Way Better Snacks Simply So Sweet Chili Tortilla Chips. Value = $1.10

Fogg City Spice Co. Lemon Rosemary Seasoning. Value = $1.80

1.1 oz. Ziggy Marley Organics Sea Salt & Pepper Roasted Hempseeds.  Value = $1.67

1.1 oz. Ziggy Marley Organics Caribbean Crunch Roasted Hempseeds. Value = $1.67

Amazing Grass Green Superfood. Value = $1.47

(2) Shotwell Candy Co. 5 Spice Caramels. Value = $0.76/ea.

(2) Maruso Ghost Soy Sauce. Value = $0.55/ea.

(2) .53 oz. Mandy's Rich Chocolate Cookie Thins. Value = $0.72/ea. - These are super delicious and were nice with my coffee.

1 oz. Love with Food Churro Kettle Corn  Value = $1.87 - This didn't really taste like churros to me but it had a nice cinnamon flavor.

(2) 1 oz. Gourmet Basics Original Pop Rings. Value = $1.60 - It's like funyuns only way better for you.

1 oz. Field Trip All Natural Beef Jerky in Original #3.  Value = $3.00 - Always a favorite with the boyfriend.

The total approximate value of this box is $20.94. This is always a fun box to dive into. The only thing I didn't really care for were the hemp seeds. I've tried them and I don't like them. I can't wait to try the lemon seasoning. I might just buy a chicken and roast it with this. I hope the sweet chili tortilla chips really are sweet and not hot. I'm also really curious about the soy sauce. It's advertised as all the flavor without the sauce and made from black beans.

If you use my referral link you can try the LWF snack box for just $2 shipping!

Verdict:  This Love with Food box was fantastic!

September Conscious Box - Classic Box

Conscious box offers 3 types of boxes. The classic, vegan and gluten free.  Each box contains a wide variety of items from food to beauty products to household goodies.  The price is $19.95 a month with shipping included. They also have a 3, 6 and 12 months plans. The 12 month plan is the only one that offers a discount.

Price: $19.95 a month. The 12 month pre-paid plan offers a discount.

This box is only available to ship to the US including Alaska and Hawaii and ships from Portland,

The good:

Variety: You get a wide variety of items and the box was packed!

Vegan: If your vegan the vegan box is great for you.

Gluten free: If you live a gluten free life the gluten free box would be great for you.

Information: They now include an information card with product details on it.

Points: You can earn points for rating products. The points earn you discounts should you want to purchase something you like.

The not so good:

The price: It's on the high side for subscription boxes but I would consider this a specialty box for sure.

Sample size: Some of the sample sizes are really small and not enough to really evaluate the product.

September Classic Conscious Box - Sweater Weather

Contents of Conscious Box:

Zevia Zero Calorie Cream Soda. Value = $1.00 -  I like these but they don't have a lot of fizz. The boyfriend thought they were old because of that.

.8 oz. Good Boy Organics Bops Chips. Value = $1.04

.1 oz. Cobrazol Homeopathic Pain Reliever. Value = $1.00

.34 oz. Dr. Jacobs Peppermint Castile Soap. Value = $0.16

.35 oz. Dr. Jacobs Almond Honey Castile Soap. Value = $0.16

.34 oz.  Dr. Jacobs Eucalyptus Castile Soap. Value = $0.16

Four Sigma Foods: Instant Maitake Bag. Value = $1.50

Single Serve Chocolate Superfood Protein Smoothie. Value = $3.99 (although you can get 2 free samples sent to you if you go to their website)

.176 oz. Vibrant Health Green Vibrance Junior. Value = $1.00

.10 oz. Bee Magic Medicine MamaBee Magic. Value = $1.00

.1 oz. Natralia Anti-itch Cream. Value = $0.43

.05 oz. Weleda Skin Food. Value = $0.42

.34 oz. Simple Nature Natural Face & and Body lotion. Value = $0.64

Topricin Junior Children's Pain Relief and Healing Cream. Value = $5.00

Naked Wines $100 Wine Voucher. Value = $0.00

Urban Remedy $15 Credit. Value = $0.00 - I looked into this but it's $75 a day plus FedEx overnight shipping and you only get 6 juices. $17 a drink is a little too much for me.

The total approximate value of this months box is $17.50. This box was pretty ok. I will use most everything in the box except the wine voucher. You can only use that once and I have a stack of them. If anyone wants one just email me at pixie powered@hotmail.com and I will gladly send you the code. Same goes for the Urban Remedy credit. I am curious about the maitake mushroom bag. It's concentrated mushroom which is supposed t be super healthy for you. I'm not a fan of mushrooms but I don't mind the flavor.

Verdict: This box was pretty good and I'll use most of the products.

September Bestowed Box

Bestowed was created by nutritionist and author Heather Bauer in an effort to answer the question everyone had when it comes to health food.."which one of these is really the best?" Each month, Heather and her team of health and diet experts carefully curate 7-10 healthy snacks, beverages and lifestyle item and send them to you. The price of this box is $20.00 a month with shipping included. They also have 3 and 6 month plans that offer a 10-15% discount.

Bestowed offered this box to me for review for the cost of shipping ($7.95).

Price: $20 a month w/no option to skip. Discounts for 3 and 6 months prepaid plans.

This subscription is only available in the US and ships from New York.

Bestowed is offering $5.00 any subscription to my using YUM5. Valid until 10/15.

The good:

Variety: I liked that there was some variety to this box. It wasn't just limited to food or products, you get both!

Good size samples: The samples are full size or close to it.

Information: They include a sheet with product info and tips on usage.

The not so good:

Skip a month: I didn't see an option to skip a month.

August Bestowed Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value:

Balance Bare Sea Salt Caramel Nut Bar. Value = $1.59

Bitsy's Brainfood Smart Cookies. Value = $1.00 - I thought these were good but they had an odd aftertaste, not bad just odd.

Justin's Chocolate Nut Butter Squeeze Pack. Value = $0.83

5 pack of Natural Calm. Value = $4.16

Qure Water. Value = $2.59

Super Eats Kale & Chia Chips. Value = $1.18

$40 Hello Fresh Gift Card. Value = $40.00

The total value of this months box is $11.35 not including the gift card. I didn't include that value because not everyone will be able to use it AND it still requires you to spend $29.  I only paid $8 since I'm a blogger but I would be disappointed if I paid full price and couldn't use the Hello Fresh gift card. I'm fortunate though because I can use the gift card and they finally deliver to California. I think I tried to Kale chips in another box and as I recall I didn't mind them so much.

Verdict: This box had some new items for me to try and since Hello Fresh delivers to California I think I'm going to give it a try.

Quarterly Co. My Subscription Addiction - #MSA01

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  It's not a monthly adventure but it's quarterly.  The way it works is you pick a "contributor" you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each shipment you receive the story behind why the items were chosen. This box is from Liz Cadman of My Subscription Addiction. Who better to curate a subscription box than a subscription box addict? If you've been getting subscription boxes for awhile then you know what makes a good box so I knew this would be a great box!

Price $50 every 3 months. Option to purchase a one time box available for $50 plus $8 shipping.

This is available in the US only and ships from El Dorado Hills, Ca - although the box says it's packed in Los Angeles.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

All the treasures!

The infinity scarf - better pics below.

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Fig + Yarrow Cardamom + Coffee Body Scrub. Value = $22.00

Raw Naturals Candle in Chai Latte. Value = $24.00

Simonetta Infinity Knit Scarf. Value = $25.00

Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder. Value = $65.00

Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss in Fig. Value = $15.00

Coupon to try Just Fab for 75% off making it just $10 for your first pair. - I won't be using this so if anyone wants it email me at pixiepowered@hotmail.com and I'll give you the code. It is a monthly subscription though and using this coupon signs you up. It's easy to skip or cancel but just be aware it's a monthly subscription.

The approximate value of this box is $151.00. Just as I suspected, this is a great box in value and products. The first thing I love is that she added the website and price info for each item. I love a good body scrub and this one has a whole bunch of good for you stuff. Normally I'm not too excited about getting candles because I have a ton in my stash but this one is Chai Latte and I LOVE chai so I'm keeping this for sure. The infinity scarf is actually valued low because it's only sold to boutiques and Liz only had the wholesale price. So it's probably more in the $40-$50 range. It's a great size and thickness and I like the color a lot. I can't wait to try the Tatcha enzyme powder. I love exfoliating products and this one says it won't dry out your skin and it leaves it super soft. Not to mention it comes in a pretty bottle. I already have the Juice Beauty lip gloss so I may trade it or I may just keep it as a back up.  The Just Fab coupon is an awesome one but I won't be using it. I don't wear heels much anymore and haven't found any other shoes on their site I'm super into.

Verdict: MSA curated a terrific fall box, I can't wait for #MSA02.

These were all the color options. I was happy to get the blue/purple colored one. I feel like it screams fall and it's matches most of my clothing.

September Birchbox - Fashionista Box

Birchbox is a monthly subscription service for beauty items like makeup, skincare, fragrance, etc.  Each month you will receive 4-5 generously sized samples and sometimes full size beauty products.  The cost of this service is $10 w/shipping included.  They also have a yearly subscription which is $110 for the year bringing the cost down to $9.16 a month. I had canceled this subscription last year because I didn't like what they were sending me. A friend signed up and was getting some pretty cool items so I decided to sign up again.

Price: $10 a month or $110 a year pre-paid.

This subscription is available in the US only.

The good:

Name Brands.  You will receive items from Benefit, Stila, Pür, Essie, Kerastase, Tarte, etc.

Cost.  For $10 you can give yourself a little beauty treat.

Like surprises?  You don't know what's in your box until you receive it.  When you sign up you take a little quiz and the items in the box are supposed to be customized to you.  I have seen pictures of other peoples boxes and they do receive different items.

Discounts: They have a system where you earn points for referrals and things you buy.  The points allow you to receive discounts on future full size purchases from their shop.  They offer free shipping on items from the monthly box and a $5 flat shipping rate for items that don't qualify for free shipping.  This is a nice feature because if you want to order several different brands you get free or $5 shipping for everything.

Need a gift? You can gift a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription or you can purchase a gift card in any amount.  There also have a nice option with the gift subscriptions where you can choose to have the 1st box shipped you for giving and subsequent boxes will be shipped directly to the recipient.  Great birthday/holiday gift!

The not so good:

Skip a month?  Currently there is no option to skip a month only cancel.

I'm really liking the differently designed boxes.

September Fashionista Birchbox

Contents of box with approximate retail price/value listed.

.2 oz. Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Supreme Mascara. Value = $14.45

.03 oz. Cynthia Rowley Beauty Silver Eyeliner. Value = $12.31

.25 oz. Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner. Value = $11.25

1.01 oz. Naobay Bpdy Radiance Lotion. Value = $2.90

3 oz. Macadamia Professional. Value = $15.00

The total value of this box is $55.91. I was so happy with this box, I will use absolutely everything in it. I am super excited about the eyeliner. It's a really pretty silver color that will look great for the holidays. I had kept seeing the pores no more stuff on various websites and since I kept seeing it I was hoping it would come in a box. I don't have visible blackheads but when I look under the magnifying glass I feel like they look hideous and huge. My friend once told me that no one would ever look at me that closely but I know they are there so I'm definitely going to use this. The mascara and lotion are always things I will use. I'm a big fan of the macadamia oil/argan oil products. I think this spray can will be handy for traveling.

The verdict: This box was perfect for me and the value is fantastic!

September ipsy bag - Street Style

Ipsy bag sends out 4-5 samples and a makeup bag for $10 a month with shipping included. If you sign up yearly it's $110 which brings the price down the $9.16 a month with shipping included.  I've been with them for almost two years and this is one subscription I am for sure keeping. They constantly have a high product value with products that I use.

Price: $10 a month with no option to skip. Discount offered for a yearly subscription.

This subscription is available to the US and Canada and ships from Harrisburg, NC.

The good:

The samples: Usually you get at least one full size product in each bag.

The packaging: Each month the products come in a cute makeup bag for all your goodies.

Discounts: The almost always offer a discount on any additional purchases you want to make.

Semi-customized: You take a little quiz and your bag is semi-customized with products you will enjoy.

Points: You can earn points for reviews and referrals. You can redeem points for extra goodies in your bag.

The not so good:

Skip a month? There is no option to skip a month.  You have to cancel.

Renewal. If your a yearly subscriber they automatically charge your credit card for another year when the paid for year is up. I think they should sent out an email prior reminding you that your year is almost up and it will automatically renew.

September ipsy Bag

Contents of bag with value and approximate retail price:

.3 oz. Harvé Bernard Precious Gold for Her fragrance. Value = $6.37

Hikari Lipstick in Cabernet. Value = $13.00

1 oz. Brigeo Don't Despair, Repair deep conditioning mask. Value = $4.95

.026 oz. Pacifica Natural Water-proof eyeliner in fringe. Value = $2.75

Be a Bombshell Smooth Criminal Powder. Value = $12.00

silver makeup bag with studs on it.

The approximate value of this months bag is $39.07. I am 100% happy with this bag. I have a full size Brigeo from another box but I'm happy to get another one. I really think using these deep conditioners helps especially if you have color-treated or heat damaged hair. I love the red color of the lipstick, so pretty. I am so thankful ipsy had the foresight to put the perfume in a zip bag because it leaked in the bag. I'm not a  huge fan of waterproof eyeliner but I like the color so it's a keeper. The thing I had no idea what it was for was the smooth criminal powder. It's silica so I figured it was used as a de-shine but I looked it up anyway. It gives you a matte finish when used over your foundation. I don't use liquid foundation all the time but I'll probably keep it around to try it out.

Verdict: This months bag was fantastic!

Julep Jewel Heist Mystery Box

Julep recently offered a new mystery boxed called Jewel Heist. Each box was promised to have a 100+ value. This one, like the other ones came with a prize for a few lucky winners. Fifty lucky people would win the birthstone collection, including the 3 colors not yet released. One lucky winner would win a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings. The price of the box was $24.99 and they also had add-ons you could purchase. Major mystery add-on was $14.99, the mystery add-on was $9.99 and the mystery polish was $4.99. I ended up buying all three but I had a coupon which saved me $8.99 so all of it came to $45.97.

Sadly I didn't win any of the prizes but I got some things I've been wanting.

This was the Jewel Heist Mystery Box.

This is the Major Mystery Box.

This is the mystery add-on.

This is the mystery polish.

Contents of the Jewel Heist Mystery Box: $24.99

Sweep Eye Shadow Palette in Neutral. Value $24.00/$19.20

Tatiana, shimmer, Boho Glam. Value = $14.00/$11.20

Surprise Rush Lip Gloss. Value = $20.00/$16.00

Blank Canvas Mattifying Eye Primer. Value = $22.00/$17.60

Eyeshadow Brush. Value = $18.00/$14.40

Set of 2 Hair Ties. Value $2.00??

The total value of this is $100 or $80.20 maven pricing.

Contents of the Major Mystery Add-On: $14.99

Sweep Eye Shadow Palette in Neutral. Value $24.00/$19.20

Taryn, Holographic Glitter, It Girl. Value = $14.00 - this was only available in the "lucky" mystery boxes in March.

Dawn, Créme, It Girl. Value = $14.00/$11.20

The total value of this is $52.00 or $44.40 maven pricing.

Contents of the Mystery Add-On: $9.99

Annemarie, Créme, It Girl. Value = $14.00/$11.20

Shoshanna, Glitter, It Girl. Value = $14.00/$11.20

Catrina, Créme, It Girl. Value = $14.00/$11.20

The total value of this is $42.00/$33.60 maven pricing.

Mystery Polish: $4.99

Kendra, Sheer/Frost/Pearl, It Girl. Value = $14.00/$11.20

In the end I got $208 or $169.40 maven pricing and I paid $46.00. I was bummed to see that I got two eye palettes. There aren't suppose to be duplicate items in the different boxes. I emailed Julep and they gave me enough points for a free polish for my trouble. I guess that's ok because I'm actually going to save one of the palettes for a Christmas gift along with the eye primer. I'm happy about the hair ties because I love those things. I was also happy about the lip gloss because I've been wanting to try it but didn't want to buy it. The Taryn color was exciting to see because although I have it already it was only available in the previous "lucky" mystery box. I totally don't mind having a dupe of it.

Verdict: All in all not a bad deal but I got a lot of dupes in the polish.

.5 oz. Natural Style by FUBU Deep Conditioner & Co-Wash. Value = $0.42

Sally Hansen Toe Spacers. Value = $1.99

My Beauty Spot Nail Polish. Value = $4.17/$0.00 - My value is zero since when I opened it the first thing I noticed was nail polish all over the neck like it had leaked. The polish inside was so thick and gloopy it's unusable.

.17oz. LashEm Chrislie Formulations 3-in-1 Eye Brights. Value = $13.33

The total approximate value of this month's box is $24.40 or 20.23 for me since I'm tossing the damaged nail polish. I could go through the process of emailing them and getting a replacement but honestly I probably wouldn't have used it anyway. I have tons of Julep, Zoya, Essie and Enchanteds to keep me in polish for the next 50 years. Also since I don't paint my toes I won't use the toe spacers but the last time I received one I put it in a gift bag so it worked out. I do love the color of the eye crayon though and can't wait to try it. I swatches it on my hand and it's really nice looking. I will definitely use the deep conditioner. At first I wasn't excited about the LashEm product but the description promises to make your eyes not look tired even if you are short on sleep. I will surely find a need for this.

Verdict: Ok box, and even though I didn't like two of the items I still got my moneys worth.

September Taste Trunk - Gourmet Trunk

Taste Trunk is a food based subscription box. I love food, especially gourmet food so I didn't hesitate to sign up for this box. Taste Trunk actually has four different themed trunks you can purchase. They are Gourmet, Health, Sweet and BBQ trunk. I love that they have something for everyone. I get lots of health type foods and I don't need any sweets so I decided against these ones. I was torn between the BBQ one and the Gourmet one but ended up choosing the Gourmet one. The nice thing about Taste Trunk allows you to switch your boxes at anytime. I keep thinking I'm going to try the BBQ one at some point but I'm really liking this trunk.

Price: $35.00 a month with no option to skip.

The good:

Products: The items in my box are gourmet and full size.

Info: They send info cards with products information and recipes.

Variety: I love that they have four different themed boxes.

Want more: They have an online store where you can purchase more of the things you love.

Change it up: Want a different trunk next month. You can change your trunks by emailing them

The Not So Good:

Skip: Doesn't look like there is a way to skip, only cancel.

Referral program: They have one but you have to enter the persons full name when you check out and they get 10% off their next box. I like referral programs that use links and have discounts or bonus items for both people.

September Premium Gourmet Taste Trunk

Contents of Taste Guru Box with approximate retail value:

Culinary Twist Maya Bay Thai Marinade from Foster City, CA. Value = $5.99

Terrapin Ridge Farms Cinnamon Clove Tomato Jam from Clearwater, FL. Value = $8.00

Two Snooty Chefs Hungarian Ragout from Seattle, WA. Value = $5.95

Two Snooty Chefs Rally Fries Seasoning from Seattle, WA Value = $5.95

Sweet Sam's Classic Crumb Cake from Newman, CA . Value = $2.99

Sweet Sam's Walnut Brownie from Newman, CA. Value = $2.99

Sweet Sam's Coffee Streusel Cake from Newman, CA. Value = $2.99

The total value of this box is $34.86. This is equal to the price of the box but I'm ok with that since it has specialty items in it. The Sweet Sam's cakes were really good with coffee. I think I'm going to put the tomato jam over some brie and have it with crackers. Yum! The thai marinade can be used as a dressing, a dip for bread or a marinade.

Verdict: I loved the stuff in the box this month.

September Allure Sample Society Beauty Box

Sample Society by Beauty Bar is a monthly service for beauty products that promises 5 fresh deluxe sized samples from luxury brands designed for multiple uses.  You also receive a coupon each month for $15 off a $50 purchase from Beauty Bar and a 12 month subscription to Allure magazine.  The cost for this subscription is $15.00 a month with shipping included.

Price: $15.00 a month with no option to skip.

The good:

The samples: You get deluxe sized samples from luxury brands.

Magazine: You get a free 12 month subscription to Allure magazine.  If you already subscribe they will extend your subscription and if you don't want it you can mail in a form for a refund on the value ($12)

Coupon: They send you a coupon with each box for $15 off a $50 purchase. The catch is your order has to include at least one item from a brand you received that month.  It doesn't have to be the item you received just the same brand.

Referrals: It's a win/win. You get a $5 credit on your account or you can donate that to charity and the person you refer gets a 20% discount on their first purchase at Beauty Bar.

The not so good:

Skip a month: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel.

Subscription discounts: They don't offer discounts for multiple months unless you gift a 12 month subscription. Then you get 12 months for the price of 11.

September Sample Society Box (sorry the Alterna product was so dark)

Contents of box with approximate retail value.

.03 oz. Givenchy Dahlia Divin Eau De Parfum. Value = $2.16

1.35 oz. Alterna Caviar Repairx Re-Texturizing Protein Cream. Value = $9.28

3 pack Tarte Brazilliance Self Tanning Face Towelettes. Value = $9.00

.5 oz. Restorsea Revitalizing Eye Cream. Value = $85.00

.17 oz. Lorac POREfection Mattifying Face Primer. Value = $3.20

The total value of this box is $108.64. Incredible! I'm really excited about this box, except for the face tanning things. I'm just not into fake tan face, it never works out for me. I know a lot of people don't like the perfume samples but I like them because it allows me to try lots of difference scents and I'm not a one scent kind of gal. I've used the Alterna cream before and will use it again no problem. I can't believe how much the eye cream is. This is something I would never buy so I'm excited to try this.

Verdict: This months was another great box. I can't wait to try the eye cream

September French Box

French Box is the newest beauty box to hit the subscription box list. I was eagerly awaiting this box because no spoilers were put out on it so it was a complete surprise. Each box will contain 5 cosmetic, fashion or gourmet items from French brands. The price of the box is $24 a month or you can pre-pay a yearly subscription for $228 making it $19 a month. Right now you can get your first box for $14.00 but I'm not sure how long that will last.

Price: $24 a month with no option to skip. Discount for pre-paid yearly subscription.

This is available to the 48 states (sorry Alaska and Hawaii) and ships from Miami Florida.

The good:

Foreign Beauty: If you are into French items that you might not be able to easily find in the US then this box is fun.

Variety: Not just beauty products, there was also food and home goods in the box.

Booklet: The booklet is full of info including prices and websites for the items.

The not so good:

Skip: There is no option to skip, only cancel and re-sign up.

Price: It's on the higher side but they value is definitely there.

This is the shipping box. I was surprised they shipped priority mail.

Inside the box is another box. It's a nice sturdy branded box. It's very similar to GlossyBox

This is what the box looked like under the lid.

Included postcard and recipe for red wine-poached pears.

This is the pamphlet that comes inside the box.

All the French Box treasures.

Contents of the French Box.

1 oz. Caudalie Makeup Remover Cleansing Water. Value = $4.18

Sothys Hydra-Glide Lipstick in Brun Chaud. Value = $25.00

Missiu Eiffel Tower Bracelet in black. Value = $12.00

Buddy Fruits Fruit Bites. Value = $1.50 - These were really good and only 100 calories.

Whispering Angel Wine Bag. Value = $15.00

Sothys Lip Liner in Naturel. Value = $19.00

The total value of this inaugural French Box is $76.68. Even though this box has a great value I was a little disappointed in the items. The fruit snacks were good and I'm loving the color of the lipstick. I don't use liquid makeup remover because I use wipes but I will use this since I have it. The wine bag is cute but in my opinion not worth $15. If you've been reading my blog for any length of time you know I'm not a fan of the lip liners. I can see why they included it since it goes with the lipstick but it's not my thing. The bracelet is kind of cute but not something I would wear. I know just who I'm going to give it to though, it's a perfect stocking stuffer.

Verdict: I only paid $14 for this box so it was worth it for me. I don't think I will be subscribing though.

September Blush Beauty Mystery Box

Blush is a company that is associated with Dermstore and Blush offers a monthly mystery beauty box.  You can make a one time purchase for $34.95 or subscribe monthly for $24.95.  Both prices include shipping. It made absolutely no sense to me to pay $10 more when I could just cancel the subscription if I didn't like it.  Each month Blush says they will send a box full of products handpicked by their panel of beauty experts of mostly full size and some travel-size products worth at least $100.

Price: $24.95-$34.95 a month with no option to skip.

I believe this subscription is available to the US only, they don't really say on their website.

The good:

Price: If they continue to send great products with a value of at least $100 that's 4 times the value.

Want more: Since they have a retail website reordering is easy and all these products were easily found.

The not so good:

Price: This is one of the higher priced subscriptions but the products are usually high end.

Skip: Their website is not user friendly.  I couldn't find an option to skip or cancel.

September Blush Beauty Mystery Bag.

Contents of Blush box w/approximate retail price listed:

sample size Skinceuticals advanced pigment corrector. Value = $?? - This is a small sample but a full size is 1 oz. and is $90 so this could very well be worth $10

1.06 oz. Klorane Extra-Gentle Dry Shampoo with oat milk. Value = $9.00

4 oz. Color Wow One-Minute Transformation. Value = $24.00

Lumene Sensitive Touch Cleansing Wipes 10 pack. Value = $2.99

Juice Beauty Reflecting Lip Gloss in Organic Fig . Value = $15.00

Vapour Organic Beauty Solar Translucent Bronzer - Simmer 222. Value = $36.00

The total value of of this blush beauty bag is a $86.99 plus maybe $10 for the Skinceuticals product. I'm excited to try it though because I have a couple of problem pigment areas that need fixing. The juice beauty is a nice color and I like their products. I'm always using face cleansing wipes and a 10 pack is a perfect travel size. I'm not to excited by the dry shampoo because I don't use it. I was excited by the Color Wow at first thinking it had something to do with color but it's more for thick or frizzy hair which I don't have an issue with. The Vapour beauty is the big item in this bag but it's a bronzer which I don't use and it looks really dark in the tube. I'm thinking it must go on light but I want to see swatches before I give this a try, I may just end up swapping it.

Verdict: Blush beauty always has a great value even if you don't use everything you get.

September Fancy - Food Box

The Fancy Food Box includes 5 or more gourmet artisan food products. The Fancy Food box is priced at $39.00 plus $7.95 shipping. This is a little high but if you are into food products they send out some really cool stuff and so far the value has been over the $48 price of the box. I also think this would make a great holiday gift for the food lover in your life.

Price $47.95 a month with no option to skip.

This subscription is available worldwide, shipping prices vary on location.

The good:

Sizes: You get full size food items! Also every now and then they throw in a kitchen gadget.

Information: They include a nice card with the product information and picture.

Products: They really do sent gourmet and artisan foods and products.

The not so good:

Skip: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel but the cancel process is online and super simple.

Price: The price is a little high but the value always surpasses the price paid.

September Fancy Food Box

Contents of The Fancy Food Box with approximate retail price listed:

Better Off Spread Jalapeño Be Thy Name Sweet & Spicy Peanut Butter. Value = $10.00

The Jam Stand Stroseberry Jam. Value = $10.00

Q Drinks Orange Sparkling Soda. Value = $2.42

Q Drinks Grapefruit Sparking Soda. Value = $2.42

Green Mountain Mustard Basecamp Mustard. Value = $6.99

Megpies Poptarts in Cinnamon. Value = $3.50

Megpies Poptarts in Chocolate. Value = $3.30

Wondermade Key Lime Pie Marshmallows. Value = $7.95

Salty Road Vanilla Salt Water Toffee. Value = $6.50

McClure's Bloody Mary Chips. Value $1.50

The total value of this months box is $54.78. I always look forward to the Fancy boxes and all the Fancy food they have. A few of these things I've tried already but they are things I like. I was bummed to see my Megpies were broken but I'm still going to eat them. The sweet and spicy sounds interesting. I think I'm going to use it to make a peanut dipping sauce for spring rolls. The jam stand makes terrific jams and I haven't tried their stroseberry jam yet. I love marshmallows, they are like little perfect puffs of goodness. Wondermade makes some yummy marshmallows and this is a new flavor for me to try. I know we've, or rather let me rephrase that, I know the boyfriend has tried the Q drinks we received in other boxes but I can't remember if he liked them or not.

Verdict: The Fancy boxes are always full of yummy things to try.

Quarterly Co. Chef Ludo Lefebrve #LLQ01

With each gift you receive the story behind it. This box is from Chef Ludo Lefebvre who is often credit for revolutionizing fine dining in Los Angeles. Before the age of 30, Ludo had been named one of the World's 50 Greatest Chefs by Relais & Chateaux. I love food and cooking so this box sounded like it would be a great match for me. Sounded perfect for me. The cost of this box is $50.00 per quarter with shipping included.

Chef Ludo Lefebvre #LLQ01 Box

Ludo's Essential Spices.

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Hedley & Bennett custom BBQ Mitt. Value = $12.00??

DCS BBQ Spatula with a serrated edge. Value = $25.20

Ludo's Essential French Provençal Barbecue Seasoning. Value = $6.67

Ludo's Essential Meat Seasoning Salt. Value = $6.67

Grill Magazine issue #1 by Fisher & Paykel. Value = $5.00?

Chef Ludo's Personal BBQ Recipe for Herbs of Provence Shrimp

The approximate value of this box is $55.54. This is very much an approximate because the BBQ mitt is custom designed by Chef Ludo and only available through this box. The DCS BBQ tool is part of a set of 5 and I couldn't find it sold separately. The same goes for the spices, they are only sold on HSN and in a set of 6. The grill magazine is available online but I feel like it's worth about $5. The BBQ mitt is super cute and thick. The only thing I would like more is for it to have a pocket to stick my hand in. The spatula is really heavy and has a nice grip handle. This is quality stuff for sure. The hand is long so you can turn your burgers without burning your arm. I'm always trying new spices and these ones smell delicious. The magazine has some really good recipes and articles in it. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Verdict: At first glance I wasn't excited about this box, but now I'm seeing the possibilities.

September PopSugar Must Have Box

The PopSugar Must Have Box is a monthly subscription box that is geared toward many aspects of your lifestyle.  It includes, food, beauty, fashion, tech, and all kinds of other treasures. The price of the box is $39.95 a month w/shipping included.  They also have 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions and each one saves you a little bit of money.

Right now the PopSugar site is down. It says they plan to be back up Sept 16th with more surprises. I am so curious what that means.

Price: $35.78-$39.95 a month with no option to skip.

This subscription is available in the US only and ships from Gilroy, Ca.

The good:

Products: Full size products as promised and a nice variety of beauty, home etc.

Booklet: The include an info booklet in each box about the products.

Pricing structure: They have monthly, 3, 6 and yearly subscriptions.  Each one (except monthly) saves you a little bit of money.

Referrals: The offer a generous referral program.  Refer 2 people get a month free. 5 people 3 months free and 10 people is 6 months free.  I've was super lucky and 10 people used my referral link so I got 6 months free way back when I first started subscribing.

The not so good:

The price: $40 is a little high for a monthly box but you do get some really cool stuff with a value of way more than $40

Skip a month: There is no option to skip, only cancel.

Max Referrals: They only reward you for the first 10 referrals. I think they're referral program is very generous but I would like to see something beyond 10 referrals. Maybe some type of point system or discount.

September PopSugar Must Have Box

This is what the scarf looks like. I didn't want to open it yet just in case I decide to gift it. It's made of silk, cashmere and wool which sounds super fantastic so I might just keep it.

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Tilo Midal Gradation Scarf in Raisin. Value = $125.00

Nicole Miller Stereo Earbuds in Blue. Value = $20.00

Oribe Superfine Purse Size Hair Spray. Value = $21.50

Letter C Design Gold Foil Arrow Pencils w/a sharpener. Value = $5.00

Rifle Paper Co. Garance Doré Assorted Girls Set of 8 notecards. Value = $18.00

Urban Remedy Almond Brownie. Value = $6.00
Urban Remedy $10 off any purchase of $50 or more. Value = $0

Special Extra

Nike $20 Gift Card and measuring tape. Value = $1.00

Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Sea Salt & Almond Minis. Value = $5.95

The value of this box is $202.45. The scarf in the box this month really added tons of value to this box. The scarf really is pretty and I love that's it's made of silk, cashmere and wool. I was also happy to see the earbuds because I lost one of the cushions in my other ones and they are kind of useless without it. These also come with an in line microphone so I can use them with my iPhone. The hair spray is a nice travel size and I like the finer mist ones. I was happy about the Nike gift card because I need a new sports bra, however I don't like the style of the one they make in my size. I think I can use this on anything though so I might peruse the site and see what else they have. The pencils are ok, I don't use pencils much but I do appreciate them including a pencil sharpener since I'm not sure I have one.

Verdict: This months PopSugar had a super high value thanks to the luxurious scarf.
