Quarterly Co. Food52 #F5209

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  It's not a monthly adventure but it's quarterly.  The way it works is you pick a "contributor" you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it.  The curators consist of CEO's, authors, chefs, world travelers, business owners, etc.  Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs are the creators of Food 52.  I very much enjoy cooking and experimenting with new ingredients and flavors.  The description of this service read: "The best home cooking is a blend of the practical and the inventive. Which may be why, as avid home cooks, we love objects with utility as much as those with great beauty. We’ll be sending you packages filled with nifty items for your kitchen and table—no superfluous gadgets or gewgaws but things you’ll want to use and display for decades, until your children attempt to snag them for their first kitchens."  Sounded perfect for me. The cost of this box is $50.00 per quarter with shipping included.

Price $50 every 3 months.

This is available in the US only and ships from El Dorado Hills, Ca - although the box says it's packed in Los Angeles.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Quarterly Food52 Box #9

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

TurnCo Wood Goods 1/2 Gallon/64 oz. Jar w/walnut wood lid. Value = $44.00

Grady's Cold Brew Bean Bags. Value = $12.00

Floral Straws. Value = $4.00

The value of this box is $60.00. When I first opened this box I wasn't too excited. I like coffee and drink it a few times a week but I'm not a coffee connoisseur. However, I do prefer iced or cold coffee to hot coffee. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy for letting my coffee sit for at 10-15 min before drinking it. With that thought I decided not to be too down on this box I mean after all it contains everything you need to enjoy cold coffee. How this works is you put the cold brew bean bag in the jar with 1 3/4c water, let it sit for 12 hours then take the bag out. What you have left is a concentrated coffee you can add more water or milk to. If you like your coffee hot then you can put the coffee bag in your coffee maker. The jar fro TurnCo Woods is a very nice jar. Honestly I probably won't use this for coffee brewing but I've been looking for a jar for sun tea and I think this will work nicely. I've been using the large pampered chef measuring bowl but this will look much nicer.

Verdict: At first glance I wasn't excited about this box, but now I'm seeing the possibilities.
