August Bestowed Box

Bestowed was created by nutritionist and author Heather Bauer in an effort to answer the question everyone had when it comes to health food.."which one of these is really the best?" Each month, Heather and her team of health and diet experts carefully curate 7-10 healthy snacks, beverages and lifestyle item and send them o you.bThe price of this box is $20.00 a month with shipping included. They also have 3 and 6 month plans that offer a 10-15% discount.

Bestowed offered this box to me for review for the cost of shipping ($7.95).

Price: $20 a month w/no option to skip. Discounts for 3 and 6 months prepaid plans.

This subscription is only available in the US and ships from New York.

Bestowed is offering $5.00 any subscription to my using BST5. Valid until 9/15.

The good:

Variety: I liked that there was some variety to this box. It wasn't just limited to food or products, you get both!

Good size samples: The samples are full size or close to it.

Information: They include a sheet with product info and tips on usage.

The not so good:

Skip a month: I didn't see an option to skip a month.

August Bestowed Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value:

Funley's Super Crackers in Cornbread n' Stuff. Value = $0.65

Funley's Super Crackers in Cheddar n' Stuff. Value = $0.65

Good Greens Bar in Chocolate Mint. Value = $2.49 - oh my gosh! No joke this is fantastic! I would totally buy and eat this again. I'm impressed!

1 oz. Ocean's Halo Seaweed Chips in hot & spicy. Value = $1.79

8 oz. Orgain Healthy Kids Chocolate Shake. Value = $2.29 - says it's for kids but I like them. 200 calories and taste great.

Plum Organics Mashup in Berry. Value = $1.00

Peeled Snacks Apple Clusters. Value = $1.25

2 oz. Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Dish Soap. Value = $0.50 - these soaps smell so good!

2 oz. Water Jel Unburn. Value = $4.99

Coupon for free Maia Yogurt. Value = up to $1.99

Coupon for free Suja Juice. Value = up to $9.05

The total value of this months box is $26.65. The value is great provided I can find the yogurt and Suja juice. These may be items that aren't available at conventional grocery stores. I love the way the Mrs. Meyers soap smells and it works well also. It's something I would definitely buy again. I liked the seaweed chips which I've also received in another box but they weren't spicy. I'm not a super spicy fan so I hope these don't set my mouth on fire. I hope I can find the yogurt and the juice in one of the stores I shop at. I just have to know what makes Suja a $9 juice drink. I'm really curious about the cornbread crackers. I love cornbread, I mean really love it. I could live off of cornbread. I'm really hoping those crackers don't let me down.

Verdict: I think this box has some fun stuff to try and even though the value is lower than the price paid I think it's still a good deal.

August GlossyBox

Glossybox is a monthly beauty subscription service that sends 5 travel size beauty items a month.  You can sign up monthly for $21/month, 6 months for $115 (breaks down to $19.16/month), or yearly for $220 (breaks down to $18.33/month).  Shipping is included in these prices. The price is higher than a lot of the other beauty companies but they include luxury items in their boxes. The company ships their boxes towards the end of the month so you will receive it at the end of the month or the beginning of the following month.

Price: $21 a month with discounts for 6 and 12 month subscriptions.

This subscription is available in the US (not including Alaska or Hawaii), Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

The good:

The brands: They have well known quality brands like OPI, Zoya, Burberry, C.O. Bigelow, Ahava, Sebastian and other brands specific to other countries.

The sizes: They send deluxe size samples and usually at least one full  size item.

The box: I know it's just a box but it's a really nice sturdy box. The regular boxes are pink and the special collaboration boxes vary in design and color. This box is perfect for reusing or for a gift box. I've also used them to store my extra beauty products.

Information. They provide information on the products you receive and how much the full size is priced at.  I like knowing this info up front and not having to search for it.

Free stuff: If you provide feedback on your products you earn glossydots which will eventually earn you a free box. You can also earn glossydots from referrals. You have to claim your free box before your subscription ends and becomes inactive. This can be tricky because you don't want to receive duplicate boxes.

The not so good:

The price: This can be a little high for some people but if you want to receive known/quality brands it's worth it.

Skip: There is no option to skip a month.

August GlossyBox

Contents of box w/approximate retail value.

FULL SIZE Kryolan Highlighter in Cashmere. Value = $18.95

FULL SIZE Precison Beauty nail lacquer in Trillion Dollar Red. Value = $5.95

.035 (half of full size) Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner. Value = $8.00

2 oz. Überliss Hydrating Shampoo. Value = $3.98

2 oz. Überliss Hydrating Conditioner. Value = $4.32

1.7 oz. Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream. Value = $17.00

The total value of my Glossybox is $58.20. The kryolan highlighter was made especially for glossybox. I don't normally use highlighters but this one looks really nice and easy to use. I can always use shampoo and conditioner and it seems I've been getting a plethora of it lately. I actually have a full size eyeko that I haven't used yet. I hear it's awesome for drawing cats eyes. I always find with these types of "wet" eyeliners I get impatient during the drying time and end up with upper lid lines. Anyone else do that? The nail polish is a really pretty red and from a brand I'm not familiar with. I'm not sure I'll use the day cream because I prefer something with SPF in it. Who says I can't use it at night though?

Verdict: Glossybox is pricier than other beauty boxes but it has great brands and value.

August Candy German

Who loves food and candy from foreign lands? I do, I do! That's why I was super excited when Candy German offered to send me a box to review. And yes it really came all the way from Germany.  Each money Candy German will send you 6-8 handpicked German confections, that will including anything from chocolate, wine gums, cookie, gingerbread, etc. The price of the is in Euros on their website so be aware of that when ordering. The monthly price is €29 which is about $38.00 with shipping from Germany included and there are options for 6 and 12 month plans at a little discount.

Price €29 or $39 a month with 6 and 12 month plans.

I believe this ships worldwide and ships from Germany.

The good:

Love foreign goodies: I know I do! I love seeing what flavor combos other countries come up with.

Need a unique gift: They offer gift subscriptions. Perfect for someone who may have just moved form Germany or loves German treats.

The Not So Good:

Price: The price is a little high for a monthly box but would be a nice treat every once and a while.

This is what the box looked like when I opened it. It was shipped in a plain brown box but they are designing the outside of the box so that should change soon.

All the German treasures inside the box.

Contents of German Candy Box:

Haribo Gummy Bears, fan edition. Value = $4.79 - The boyfriend was excited to see this. Apparently he's a gummy bear guy.

Sallos. Value = $3.99. - this is a hard candy that taste like black licorice.

Be Happy, Knusprige Kleine Doppel-Kekse (crispy double cookies). Value = $2.00- not a lot of flavor but I liked them.

Mini Nussecken (mini corners). Value - $?? - These were ok, a little try but tasty - especially the hazelnut

Choco Nippon. Value = $2.00 - the only thing than could've made this better is dark chocolate but only because I love dark chocolate. The rice was really big which I liked.

(2) Knoppers (hazelnut and cream candy) - Value = $1.29/ea. - The type of sugar wafer candy things are one of my favorite types of candy.

Riesen Karamell. Value = $?? - basic caramel candy.

Schoko Drops. (chocolate drops). Value $1.99 - These are like giant m&m's.

The approximate value of the items in this box is $20.00. I actually found quite a few of these items at an online shop called German Deli. They also have a store in Texas. I was unable to find a couple of the items online so that price is very much and approximate. I had to use google translate on some of these which was kind of fun in itself. I was surprised shipping only took about a week, I was expecting it to be much longer for some reason.

Verdict: I'm probably not going to subscribe since it's so costly but I would consider it every now and then for a treat.

August Beauty Box 5

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription service for beauty products including makeup, skin care, fragrances, nail care, body care, beauty tool and just about anything else beauty related.  Each month you receive 4-5 samples of beauty related items.  They have three ways to subscribe.  You can pay monthly for $12 a month, or quarterly $30 which brings the price down to $10 a month or yearly for $100 which brings the price down to $8.33 a month.  Shipping is included in all these prices.

I actually received this box on the 12th of this month but it was missing the purlisse and nail polish. I was bummed because I love the purlisse product. I emailed the company and they responded within a day or two. It took about 2 weeks but they sent me the 2 missing items.

Price: $12 a month with no option to skip. Discounts for 3 and 12 month plans.

This subscription ships the the US and Canada from Austin, Texas.

The good:

The brands.  Well known brands including some eco-friendly ones.

The pricing structure.  I like the options they have, monthly, quarterly and yearly.  Even the quarterly gives you a little bit of a discount.

Information: They have started including an information cards on the products in the boxes which I love

The not so good:

Skip a month. Currently there is no option for this.  If you want to skip you have to cancel.

July Beauty Box 5 Summer Chic

Contents of box with approximate retail value.

.5 oz. Purlisse Pur Protect SPF30. Value = $16.00

La Fresh Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipes. Value = $1.99

Nanacoco Lip Gloss. Value = $3.99

1.05 oz. pkt Novex Brazilian Keratin hair treatment. Value = $0.62

.25 oz. Style Essentials Nail Polish in a teal color. Value = $1.75

The total approximate value of this month's box is $24.35. This box was worth it for the Purlisse product alone. The boyfriend uses it daily since he's riding a motorcycle all day. I even found someone on eDivv who was looking to trade their whole box and we made a swap. Totally awesome for me. I'm also liking the travel face wipes, something I use everyday. The lip color is ok but I'll probably swap it. I try and use a hair treatment once every couple of weeks so I'll definitely use this. The nail color isn't a brand I'm familiar with and I'm not sure about the color so that might get swapped also.

Verdict: I'm so glad they sent my missing items! Great box.

July Taste for Sweets

A long while back a reader named Kayla suggested I give this subscription a try. I looked it up and it sounded good to me so I signed up. What took so long to post this? Well I'm glad you asked. I had found a coupon code (GIFT25OFF) that got me a 3 month subscription for $36. The normal price is $16 a month so it saved me $12. I thought 3 months would be a fair amount of time to evaluate the subscription.

This posting is late because a whole bunch of confusion with my subscription. Somehow I ended up with two subscriptions, the gift one and a regular one and was being charged $16 a month. I was only getting one box so I'm not sure what happened. It took a couple of emails and a Facebook message to get the company to respond but hopefully it's all figured out now. I'm a little worried though because I'm hearing rumors that they are going out of business.

Price: $16.00 a month with no option to skip. Discount for pre-paid yearly plan at $168.00.

The good:

Foreign snacks: if you like snacks from other parts of the world then this is great.

The not so good:

Price: The price is a little high but these items aren't not easy to find.

July Taste for Sweets

I'm not going to try and finds prices of all these items because that would take a lot of time and effort. I'm pretty positive it wouldn't add up to $16 but it was fun trying all the new treats. If this were a few dollars cheap I might consider it. One a side note it's worth mentioning that I was expecting the muesli bar to be dry and not good but it was great. I would totally buy it again.

I should have at least 4 more of these boxes that I've paid for coming so we will see what happens. August should be here shortly - can't wait.

Verdict: I thought this box was great I just wish it were in the $10-$12 range.

August Love with Food - Deluxe Box

Love with Food is a monthly subscription box filled with food. They now offer a deluxe size version of the box which contains 16-20 new snack foods. The price of this deluxe version is $19.95 a month with shipping included. You can also sign up for a 6 or 12 month plan each which will save you a couple of dollars a month. Also for each deluxe box purchased 2 meals are donated to hungry children in America. I decided to cancel my regular snack size box and subscribe to just this larger
size box.

Price: $19.95 a month with a discount for 6 and 12 month plans. No option to skip.

This subscription is only available in the US and ships from Santa Clara, California.

The good:

Bigger is better? I know some people don't like that the regular box is so small but it also comes with a small price tag. This deluxe box would be better suited for those with more than 2 people in their house. No more fighting over the tasty snacks!

Variety: You get a lot of variety in each box.

Discounts: You can earn points for discounts off future full size product purchases by submitting reviews on their website or referring new members.

The not so good:

I really can't think of anything I don't like about this box.

August Fun at the County Fair Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value:

(2) 1.25 oz. Covered Bridge Montreal Steak Spice Seasoning Potato Chips. Value = $1.42/ea. - I expected this to have a smoky steak flavor but they were kind of plain.

(2) Smooze Pineapple + Coconut Fruit Ice. Value = $0.88/ea.

(2) 1 oz. Skeeter Nut Free Cinnamon Grahams.  Value = $1.20/ea.

(2) Salty Road Salty Peanut Salt Water Taffy. Value = $0.56/ea.

(2) Salty Road Salty Caramel Salt Water Taffy. Value = $0.56/ea.

(2) 180 Snacks Nutty Rice Bites w/Blueberry. Value = $1.49/ea. - I'm loving these. I'm so glad we got a bunch of them this month.

Lundberg Family Farms Redwood Smoky BBQ Multigrain Chips. Value = $1.00

(2) Back to Nature Crispy Cheddar Crackers. Value = $1.30/ea.

(2) 1.5 oz. Love with Food Kettle Sweet Peanuts.  Value = $1.62/ea.

(5) Yumearth Organic Lollipops. Value = $0.20/ea.

1 single serve Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Nut Butter.  Value = $1.19

1 single serve Justin's Honey Peanut Butter Nut Butter. Value = $1.19

The total approximate value of this box is $22.44. It's a good thing they sent multiples of items otherwise we would be fighting over this box. That's one of the reason I upgraded from the snack size box. We are going camping soon and I think I'm going to take a bunch of this stuff with us. The peanut butter will be perfect for camping. I noticed this box had an item that said Love with Food on the package. It looks like they have started making their own stuff, super cool.

If you use my referral link you can try the LWF snack box for just $2 shipping!

Verdict:  This Love with Food box was fantastic!

August Love with Food - Gluten Free Box

Love with Food is a monthly subscription box filled with food. They now offer a gluten free version of the box which contains 8-12 gluten-free snacks. The price of the gluten-free box is $32.00 a month with shipping included. You can also sign up for a 6 or 12 month plan each which will save you a couple of dollars a month. Also for each gluten-free box purchased 2 meals are donated to hungry children in America.

Price: $32.00 a month w/discounts for 6 and 12 month plans. No option to skip.

This subscription is only available in the US and ships from Santa Clara, California.

The good:

Gluten-Free Life: I'm seeing more and more gluten-free stuff in the market but this is a great way to try it before you buy it and discover new foods.

Discounts: You can earn points for discounts off future full size product purchases by submitting reviews on their website or referring new members.

Donations: You effortless donate 2 meals to hungry children in America.

The not so good:

Price: It's priced at about $12 more than the Deluxe box and they send less items.

The Gluten Free Box comes with a little sticker on the box.

August Fun at the Country Fair Gluten Free Box.

Contents of box with approximate retail value:

(5) Yumearth Organic Lollipops. Value = $0.20/ea.

(2) 180 Snacks Nutty Rice Bites w/Blueberry. Value = $1.49

(2) Dang Toasted Coconut Chips.  Value = $4.58/ea. - I LOVE these!

Bumblebar Apple Crisp Junobar. Value = $2.69

Lundberg Family Farms Redwood Smoky BBQ Multigrain Chips. Value = $1.00

3 oz. Boulder Granola Gluten Free Granola. Value = $2.70

Jules Gluten Free Cookie Mix. Value = $9.95

Ginnybakes Butter Crisp Love Ginnyminis.  Value = $1.08

1.5 oz. Terra Sweets & Beets. Value = $1.87

The total approximate value of this box is $32.43. I was worried the value of this box was going to be low because it was less items. I'm really curious about the gluten-free cookies. I'm a fan of soft chewy cookies, can you have soft chewy cookies without gluten? Guess we will find out. I kind of laughed when I saw more of the nutty rice bites. I think I have about 5 packs now. We are going camping in a few weeks so I actually think I'm going to pack these up for the camping trip. The other snacky stuff like the terra chips and butter cookies will be good snacks for the snack bowl.

Verdict:  This Love with Food gluten-free box was better than I expected. I'm not going to subscribe because I already get the deluxe box but if you're looking for a gluten-free option then this is for you!

August Birchbox - The Everygirl Box

Birchbox is a monthly subscription service for beauty items like makeup, skincare, fragrance, etc.  Each month you will receive 4-5 generously sized samples and sometimes full size beauty products.  The cost of this service is $10 w/shipping included.  They also have a yearly subscription which is $110 for the year bringing the cost down to $9.16 a month. I had canceled this subscription last year because I didn't like what they were sending me. A friend signed up and was getting some pretty cool items so I decided to sign up again.

Price: $10 a month or $110 a year pre-paid.

This subscription is available in the US only.

The good:

Name Brands.  You will receive items from Benefit, Stila, Pur, Essie, Kerastase, Tarte, etc.

Cost.  For $10 you can give yourself a little beauty treat.

Like surprises?  You don't know what's in your box until you receive it.  When you sign up you take a little quiz and the items in the box are supposed to be customized to you.  I have seen pictures of other peoples boxes and they do receive different items.

Discounts: They have a system where you earn points for referrals and things you buy.  The points allow you to receive discounts on future full size purchases from their shop.  They offer free shipping on items from the monthly box and a $5 flat shipping rate for items that don't qualify for free shipping.  This is a nice feature because if you want to order several different brands you get free or $5 shipping for everything.

Need a gift? You can gift a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription or you can purchase a gift card in any amount.  There also have a nice option with the gift subscriptions where you can choose to have the 1st box shipped you for giving and subsequent boxes will be shipped directly to the recipient.  Great birthday/holiday gift!

The not so good:

Skip a month?  Currently there is no option to skip a month only cancel.

August Everygirl Birchbox

Contents of box with approximate retail price/value listed.

1 oz. Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect. Value = $4.73

.003 oz. Benefit They're Real push-up liner. Value = $1.88

1 oz. Acure Organics Brightening Facial Scrub. Value = $3.75

1.5 oz. Not Soap, Radio Happiness Inducing Body Wash. Value = $1.77

Harvey Prince Hello sample spritz. Value = $0.56

The total value of this box is $12.69. This value is still more than I paid but it's kind of a sad value. Usually Birchbox does much better than this. The good news I will use everything in this box. I love a good face scrub and I can always use body wash. I keep seeing the Number 4 Super Comb protect stuff around and I've never heard of it before. It's a leave in conditioning mist that helps protect your hair while blow drying and since I blow dry more days than not this is definitely for me. The push-up liner is super small. You have to squeeze the bottom of the container to get the product out. I wanted to try it on my hand to see how it worked but it wasn't that easy, especially since the tube is so small. We will see how it works.

The verdict: This box was perfect for me even though the value wasn't great!

August Conscious Box - Classic Box

Conscious box offers 3 types of boxes. The classic, vegan and gluten free.  Each box contains a wide variety of items from food to beauty products to household goodies.  The price is $19.95 a month with shipping included. They also have a 3, 6 and 12 months plans. The 12 month plan is the only one that offers a discount.

Price: $19.95 a month. The 12 month pre-paid plan offers a discount.

This box is only available to ship to the US including Alaska and Hawaii and ships from Portland,

The good:

Variety: You get a wide variety of items and the box was packed!

Vegan: If your vegan the vegan box is great for you.

Gluten free: If you live a gluten free life the gluten free box would be great for you.

Information: They now include an information card with product details on it.

Points: You can earn points for rating products. The points earn you discounts should you want to purchase something you like.

The not so good:

The price: It's on the high side for subscription boxes but I would consider this a specialty box for sure.

Sample size: Some of the sample sizes are really small and not enough to really evaluate the product.

August Classic Conscious Box - Wanderlust

Contents of Conscious Box:

Bio-Derived Picnic Kit Utensil Set. Value = $??

.1 oz. Cobrazol Homeopathic Pain Reliever. Value = $1.00

.025 oz. Own Refining Moisture Night Cream. Value = $0.38

.025 oz. Own Age Defy Lifting Eye Cream. Value = $0.79

Urban Remedy $15 Credit. Value = $0.00 - I looked into this but it's $75 a day plus FedEx overnight shipping and you only get 6 juices. $17 a drink is a little too much for me.

Bookshout! E-Cookbook sampler w/option to purchase at 50% off. Value = $0.00

The total approximate value of this months box is $13.79. Needless to say I'm not happy with the value of this box. I could just kick myself for not canceling before it auto-renewed! The good news is I will use most of the items in this box. I am super curious about the black bean spaghetti. It's high in protein and fiber which is great. I hope it tastes good.

Verdict: This box had a terrible value but ok products.

August Urth Box

The Urth box tagline is "Discover a Healthier You". Well who doesn't want to do that? I recently found a deal on on Gilt for a 6 month subscription for $69. I thought for $12 a month, heck why not. Each month Urth box sends a box of healthy full size snacks for you to try. They have different types and sizes of boxes the choose from. You can choose a gluten free, diet, classic or vegan box. From that point you choose which size box you want. They have a small box (7-10 items) for $29 a month, medium box (12-15 items) for $39 a month, large box (20-24 items) for $59 a month. Shipping to US is included. If you choose a 3 or 6 month plan you can save up to $10 a month. So as you can see I got a really great deal on the small box plan.

Price: $19-$59 a month depending on size of box and plan.

This box is available to US and Canada but extra shipping fees apple to Canada.

The Good:

Variety: They have a variety of boxes to choose from depending on your dietary needs.

Products: They send full size products which is awesome!

The Not So Good:

Price: The price is a little high for a monthly box.

Skip: It doesn't appear there any way to skip.

August Urth Box

Contents of the Urth Box:

1.25 oz. 180 Nutty Rice Bites. Value = $1.49

1.1 oz. Popcorners White Cheddar. Value = $0.79

Bai Antioxidant Infusions in Tanzania Lemonade Tea. Value = $2.27 - This was ok, nothing spectacular.

2 oz. Emmy's Dark Cacao Macaroons. Value = $3.29 - you know I love some dark chocolate.

.05 oz. Weleda Skin Food. Value = $0.42

2 oz. EBoost Energy Shot. Value = $3.25

Powbab Taste Pomegranate Acai Berry 6 Chews. Value = $4.66

Wild Garden Hummus. Value = $2.19

The total value of this box is $18.36. This was about the same value as last month. For me this was a great deal because of the deal I was able to score on Gilt. If you are paying full price ($29) for this box then it's a terrible deal. Like last month I did like the contents of the box. I really liked the dark chocolate macaroons. The weren't too sweet but just enough to fix the chocolate craving. The nutty rice bites look tasty and since the boyfriend doesn't like nuts I'll get to try this one out.

Verdict: The value is disappointing but the products were good. I have 4 more months of these so we will see if the value increases.

Ipsy bag sends out 4-5 samples and a makeup bag for $10 a month with shipping included. If you sign up yearly it's $110 which brings the price down the $9.16 a month with shipping included.  I've been with them for almost two years and this is one subscription I am for sure keeping. They constantly have a high product value with products that I use.

.5 oz. Glam Glo Youthmud Tingleexfoliate Treatment. Value = $20.35

.02 oz. Lord & Berry black silk kajal eyeliner. Value = $8.00?? I think this is about half the size of the full size

orange polka dot barrel makeup bag.

The approximate value of this months bag is $36.69. This was actually a pretty good bag for me, although I have 3 of the 5 items already. Normally I'm not a face shimmer lotion type of girl but since this is a small sample I think I will give it a try. I already have the mascara, glam goo and eyeliner but they are items I will use and they are travel size which I love.

Verdict: ipsy is one of my favorite subscriptions for their great products and terrific pricing.

Quarterly Co. Food52 #F5209

Quarterly Co. is a slightly different kind of subscription box company.  It's not a monthly adventure but it's quarterly.  The way it works is you pick a "contributor" you would like to receive a curated gift from anywhere from $50-$100 and every 3 months you will receive your item in the mail from them.  With each gift you receive the story behind it.  The curators consist of CEO's, authors, chefs, world travelers, business owners, etc.  Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs are the creators of Food 52.  I very much enjoy cooking and experimenting with new ingredients and flavors.  The description of this service read: "The best home cooking is a blend of the practical and the inventive. Which may be why, as avid home cooks, we love objects with utility as much as those with great beauty. We’ll be sending you packages filled with nifty items for your kitchen and table—no superfluous gadgets or gewgaws but things you’ll want to use and display for decades, until your children attempt to snag them for their first kitchens."  Sounded perfect for me. The cost of this box is $50.00 per quarter with shipping included.

Price $50 every 3 months.

This is available in the US only and ships from El Dorado Hills, Ca - although the box says it's packed in Los Angeles.

The good:

Variety: There are lots of different curators to choose from.

Something different: This is definitely different from other subscription companies

Commitment issues? Don't want to make a monthly commitment but still want a treasure?  You can get a quarterly treasure.

The not so good:

Don't like waiting: If you don't like waiting this may be torture for you.

Quarterly Food52 Box #9

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

TurnCo Wood Goods 1/2 Gallon/64 oz. Jar w/walnut wood lid. Value = $44.00

Grady's Cold Brew Bean Bags. Value = $12.00

Floral Straws. Value = $4.00

The value of this box is $60.00. When I first opened this box I wasn't too excited. I like coffee and drink it a few times a week but I'm not a coffee connoisseur. However, I do prefer iced or cold coffee to hot coffee. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy for letting my coffee sit for at 10-15 min before drinking it. With that thought I decided not to be too down on this box I mean after all it contains everything you need to enjoy cold coffee. How this works is you put the cold brew bean bag in the jar with 1 3/4c water, let it sit for 12 hours then take the bag out. What you have left is a concentrated coffee you can add more water or milk to. If you like your coffee hot then you can put the coffee bag in your coffee maker. The jar fro TurnCo Woods is a very nice jar. Honestly I probably won't use this for coffee brewing but I've been looking for a jar for sun tea and I think this will work nicely. I've been using the large pampered chef measuring bowl but this will look much nicer.

Verdict: At first glance I wasn't excited about this box, but now I'm seeing the possibilities.

August Allure Sample Society Beauty Box

Sample Society by Beauty Bar is a monthly service for beauty products that promises 5 fresh deluxe sized samples from luxury brands designed for multiple uses.  You also receive a coupon each month for $15 off a $50 purchase from Beauty Bar and a 12 month subscription to Allure magazine.  The cost for this subscription is $15.00 a month with shipping included.

Price: $15.00 a month with no option to skip.

The good:

The samples: You get deluxe sized samples from luxury brands.

Magazine: You get a free 12 month subscription to Allure magazine.  If you already subscribe they will extend your subscription and if you don't want it you can mail in a form for a refund on the value ($12)

Coupon: They send you a coupon with each box for $15 off a $50 purchase. The catch is your order has to include at least one item from a brand you received that month.  It doesn't have to be the item you received just the same brand.

Referrals: It's a win/win. You get a $5 credit on your account or you can donate that to charity and the person you refer gets a 20% discount on their first purchase at Beauty Bar.

The not so good:

Skip a month: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel.

Subscription discounts: They don't offer discounts for multiple months unless you gift a 12 month subscription. Then you get 12 months for the price of 11.

August Sample Society Box

Contents of box with approximate retail value.

Ciaté mini paint pot in Cha Cha Cha. Value = $8.00

2.5 oz. Oribe Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse. Value = $21.50

.16 oz. Too Face Melted Liquefied Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Peony. Value = $8.40

.1 oz. Kate Somerville Dilo Oil Restorative Treatment. Value = $6.50

..1 oz. Jane Iredale Longest Lash Thickening & Lengthening Mascara. Value = $7.93

The total value of this box is $52.33. I like everything in this box except maybe the nail polish, it might be a little bright for me. Expensive hair stuff that I will use? Yes please. I am really liking all the Kate Somerville products I've tried, I find oils like this works best for me when applied at night. I have a couple of mini mascaras from other boxes and I kind of like them, especially when traveling. I also like the little purse size lip products.

Verdict: This months was another great box. I can't wait to try the mousse.

August Blush Beauty Mystery Bag

Blush is a company that is associated with Dermstore and Blush offers a monthly mystery beauty box.  You can make a one time purchase for $34.95 or subscribe monthly for $24.95.  Both prices include shipping. It made absolutely no sense to me to pay $10 more when I could just cancel the subscription if I didn't like it.  Each month Blush says they will send a box full of products handpicked by their panel of beauty experts of mostly full size and some travel-size products worth at least $100.

Price: $24.95-$34.95 a month with no option to skip.

I believe this subscription is available to the US only, they don't really say on their website.

The good:

Price: If they continue to send great products with a value of at least $100 that's 4 times the value.

Want more: Since they have a retail website reordering is easy and all these products were easily found.

The not so good:

Price: This is one of the higher priced subscriptions but the products are usually high end.

Skip: Their website is not user friendly.  I couldn't find an option to skip or cancel.

August Blush Beauty Mystery Bag.

Contents of Blush box w/approximate retail price listed:

FULL SIZE Neuma Style Texturizer. Value = $24.00

2 oz. Nick Chavez Plump 'N Thick Shampoo. Value = $5.00

.25 oz. SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream. Value = $18.00

FULL SIZE Dr. Brandt BB Matte Shinerese. Value = $39.00

FULL SIZE Pixi Lid Last Shadow Pen in Graphite Glint. Value = $18.00

FULL SIZE Nailtiques nail polish in Milan. Value = $10.00

The total value of of this blush beauty bag is a $114.00. The only thing in this months bag that I'm not too excited about is the Dr. Brandt product. I have a few foundations that I've tried from other boxes but I use them maybe one a month. I think I will try and trade this one on eDivv. The shampoo is definitely something I will use. I've never tried the Neuma brand hair product but I like texturizing products. The SkinMedica says it will even out skin tone which I feel like I desperately need. The sun does all kinds of crazy stuff to my skin, I can't wait for the fall and winter months. I've never been too good at the whole smokey eye thing but I like the Pixi products so I might give it a try again with this little beauty.

Verdict: Blush beauty always has a great value even if you don't use everything you get.

August Taste Trunk - Premium Gourmet Trunk

Taste Trunk is a food based subscription box. I love food, especially gourmet food so I didn't hesitate to sign up for this box. Taste Trunk actually has four different themed trunks you can purchase. They are Gourmet, Health, Sweet and BBQ trunk. I love that they have something for everyone. I get lots of health type foods and I don't need any sweets so I decided against these ones. I was torn between the BBQ one and the Gourmet one but ended up choosing the Gourmet one. The nice thing about Taste Trunk allows you to switch your boxes at anytime. I keep thinking I'm going to try the BBQ one at some point but I'm really liking this trunk. They also have 2 different size trunks. You can get the Gourmet trunk with 4-8 items for $23.99 plus $5.99 shipping each month. They also have the Premium Gourmet trunk with 5-10 items for $28.99 plus $5.99 a month. This is the one I subscribe to. If you want to subscribe for 3-12 months at a time you get a discount ranging from $1.05-$4.65 a month.

Price: $30-$35 a month with no option to skip.

This subscription is available to the US only and ships from Discovery Bay, Ca.

The Good:

Products: The items in my box are gourmet and full size.

Info: They send info cards with products information and recipes.

Variety: I love that they have four different themed boxes.

Want more: They have an online store where you can purchase more of the things you love.

Change it up: Want a different trunk next month. You can change your trunks by emailing them

The Not So Good:

Skip: Doesn't look like there is a way to skip, only cancel.

Referral program: They have one but you have to enter the persons full name when you check out and they get 10% off their next box. I like referral programs that use links and have discounts or bonus items for both people.

August Premium Gourmet Taste Trunk

Contents of Taste Guru Box with approximate retail value:

Rustic Bakery, Hazelnut & Sultana Pan Forte Crostini from Larkspur, CA. Value = $7.95

Miner's Mix OMGarlic Cheese Bread Spread from Mariposa, CA. Value = $4.99

Shemps Hot Ketchup from Healdsburg, CA. Value = $5.50

Volpi Chianti Salami from St. Louis, MO. Value = $6.70

Gourmet Du Village Apple Spice Pancakes from Morin Heights, Canada. Value = $11.50

The total value of this box is $36.64. This box was filled with things I love. Only two of the items were new to me but I totally don't mind since I love the things I've tried before. The rustic bakery crisps are so good I could eat them just as they are. The cheese bread mix is so yummy. You mix it with mayo, spread it on sourdough or french bread, toast and enjoy. It's yum-e. We frequently have wine and cheese for a snack and the salami will go nicely with that. The apple spice pancake mix will also make crepes. I've never made crepes before so I think I will use this and give it a try. I really hope the hot ketchup isn't too hot because I'm looking forward to trying it.

Verdict: I loved the stuff in the box this month.

The PopSugar Must Have Box is a monthly subscription box that is geared toward many aspects of your lifestyle.  It includes, food, beauty, fashion, tech, and all kinds of other treasures. The price of the box is $39.95 a month w/shipping included.  They also have 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions and each one saves you a little bit of money.

Price: $35.78-$39.95 a month with no option to skip.

This subscription is available in the US only and ships from Gilroy, Ca.

The good:

Products: Full size products as promised and a nice variety of beauty, home etc.

Booklet: The include an info booklet in each box about the products.

Pricing structure: They have monthly, 3, 6 and yearly subscriptions.  Each one (except monthly) saves you a little bit of money.

Referrals: The offer a generous referral program.  Refer 2 people get a month free. 5 people 3 months free and 10 people is 6 months free.  I've was super lucky and 10 people used my referral link so I got 6 months free way back when I first started subscribing.

The not so good:

The price: $40 is a little high for a monthly box but you do get some really cool stuff with a value of way more than $40

Skip a month: There is no option to skip, only cancel.

Max Referrals: They only reward you for the first 10 referrals. I think they're referral program is very generous but I would like to see something beyond 10 referrals. Maybe some type of point system or discount.

August PopSugar Must Have Box

Contents of box with approximate retail price:

Kendra Scott Elle Earrings in Slate. Value = $52.00

Paddywax Ocean Tide + Sea Salt Mini Jar Candle. Value = $10.00

Goodbyn Purple Meal and Dipper Set. Value = $8.00

The Mason Jar Cookie Company Cookie Mix. Value = $12.00

Lollia At Last Perfumed Shower Gel. Value = $22.00

Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip Gloss. Value = $22.00

Special Extra

thinkThin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar. Value = $1.99

The value of this box is $127.99. The earrings looks like they are going to be heavy but they are really light. While body wash isn't exciting this is a high end body wash and something I can always use. The lip gloss is a really pretty color and it's made with fruit oils which is super neat. Another useful item is the food container. Food containers aren't exciting and I have a ton of them already but I'm in the process of tossing out old ones so this new one will fit in nicely. In the mornings I've been lighting a candle in the bathroom vanity area. I feel like the nice scent helps me start my day and it's nice to look at. This candle will be a nice addition and maybe I can visualize the ocean while getting ready for work. Anything to reduce stress right?

Verdict: This months PopSugar was great and I am very curious about the lip gloss.

August Fancy - Food Box

The Fancy Food Box includes 5 or more gourmet artisan food products. The Fancy Food box is priced at $39.00 plus $7.95 shipping. This is a little high but if you are into food products they send out some really cool stuff and so far the value has been over the $48 price of the box. I also think this would make a great holiday gift for the food lover in your life.

This subscription is available worldwide, shipping prices vary on location.

The good:

Sizes: You get full size food items! Also every now and then they throw in a kitchen gadget.

Information: They include a nice card with the product information and picture.

Products: They really do sent gourmet and artisan foods and products.

The not so good:

Skip: There is no option to skip a month, only cancel but the cancel process is online and super simple.

Price: The price is a little high but the value always surpasses the price paid.

August Fancy Food Box

Contents of The Fancy Food Box with approximate retail price listed:

Chocolate Twist Epic Sea Salt Caramels. Value = $12.00 - super huge and super soft1

Biscotti Di Vecchio Toasted Almond Biscotti. Value = $9.95 - perfect with coffee

Miss Lady Cream Soda. Value = $9.00 - This was not very good at all. It had no carbonation and a tremendous amount of molasses in it.

Scarpetta Pizza Sauce. Value = $7.95

Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Pizza Crust mix. Value = $4.42

The Gracious Gourmet Hatch Chili Pesto. Value = $10.00

Salento Farms Garlic Powder. Value $7.00

The total value of this months box is $60.32. This box came with goodies to make pizza. I'm not too sure about the gluten free pizza crust. I tried another brand and it was tough to roll out and the finished product wasn't very good. I like Bob's Red Mill though and so far that brand hasn't let me down. The bottle of cream soda is awesome but I don't know if it's $9 awesome. I haven't drank it yet because I want to properly sit down and enjoy it. I like the Scarpetta brand and have used a few of their items. For some reason some writing on the jar stuck out to me and it basically says that the jar is reusable, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. I can't believe I never saw that before. I'm totally going to to reuse this jar, it's super sturdy and I can use it to freeze my sauces and stocks. I really hope the hatch chili pesto isn't too hot. I love pesto and would love to use this on a pizza.

Verdict: The fancy food boxes are always fun to see what you get. All of the products in this box are new to me.

August Rainbow Honey - Large Mystery Bag

Rainbow Honey is a nail polish that is sold mostly online. I believe they have one retailer in the US down in San Diego, CA. In March of this year they started offering mystery bags and they were so popular that they made it a subscription service. Each Rainbow Honey mystery bag will have sneak peaks and preview of new lacquers, unreleased samples of future collections and exciting new products made by the Rainbow Honey Lab! They have two sizes of mystery bag mini and full size. The mini mystery bag is $10 plus shipping which I think is $3.95. The full size  mystery bag is $25 and includes shipping. The difference between the two bags, besides price is size of the products. The mini mystery bag will have the mini size bottles of nail polish and smaller versions of whatever is included in the bag. I debated on which one to get because I actually like the smaller bottle of nail polish. I have so many polishes that I never finish a bottle so the small ones are perfect for me. Then I thought for only $11 more I can get full size versions of everything. Decisions, decisions. Finally I decided on the full size mystery bag.

The good:

Price: $25 is kind of a lot on a subscription but $14 (with shipping) isn't so bad. I like that  they have two different price points.

Love what you got: The have a website full of stuff you can order.

Booklet: The include a booklet with info on the products.

The not so good:

Skip a month: I don't see a skip option

August Rainbow Honey Large Mystery Bag

Contents of the large mystery bag.

FULL SIZE nail polish in 488nm. Value = $10.00,  part of an upcoming 2015 collection

FULL SIZE nail polish Modern Hearts. Value = $10.00

FULL SIZE Royal Fruits scented top coat. Value = $8.00

12 ml Royal Fruits Rollerball . Value = $12.00

Royal Fruits Cuticle Balm. Value = $5.00

4 oz. Summer Juice body splash. Value - $??

The value of the mystery bag is at least $45.00 not including the body splash which I would guess to be in the $8 range. I was kind of bummed to see the top coat in the bag. I know top coats are useful and this one even smells nice but I like getting the new colors. Speaking of new colors isn't the Modern Hearts on pretty? The blue is nice also but I don't think it's a color I would use for a full mani - unless of course I use the Modern Hearts over it. hmmmm. I love, love, love the summer juice fragrance so I was super excited to see a bottle of it in this months bag. I have a few of their cuticle balms now and honestly I haven't used them yet. I will use them but I'm still using a Julep one I have.

Verdict: Even though the top coat wasn't super exciting I am excited about the others items. It's a little pricey but I like this monthly bag.
