February Julep Maven Box - The Dramatic Upgrade

Julep is a monthly subscription company for nail polishes. When you sign up for Julep you take a little quiz and it will tell you what kind of polish girl you are.  You are not obligated to stay with that that type though.  When I first signed up the website said I was Boho Glam but liked the It Girl colors better so I picked that one and as you can see I went with neither of those options this month. The monthly fee is $19.99 w/shipping included.  The company advertises that you will receive $40 worth of product for $19.99.  Also you will receive 20% off all purchases from their website.  Thank you to my awesome readers for using my referral link, because of you I received this box for free.

The good:

The colors: If you like nail polish then it's a nice way to experiment with multiple colors

Need a gift? If you want to send your box to a friend there is an option to do so.  Just log on to your account and click send to friend.

Ingredients: Julep is 4-free which means it's formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene or DBP free.

Want the polish but not he commitment?  You can buy the polish online at Julep.com or in Sephora stores.  The cost is $14 so if you like polish then becoming a Maven is a better deal.  If you want to try it out first you can always pick one up at Sephora or online.

Swatches: I love how every month Julep shows what the color looks like on actual nails and shows it on different skin tones.

Referral program. You earn "Jules" for referrals, purchases, anniversary, birthday and upgrades.

The not so good:

Quality:  Some of the colors are more chiporiffic that others.  I find that if you are diligent about using a top coat it really helps.  I don't have that same issue with other polishes like Essie or Zoya.

Skip a month? Sort of. For those who signed up before November 2013 you can skip a month anytime. If you signed up after November you have to "earn" skips. You earn a skip every six months of being a member. So basically once you sign up you have to receive six months of boxes or if you don't want a box and it's been less than 6 months you have to cancel your membership. I'm not a fan of this change.

I decided to upgrade to The Dramatic Collection this month. I had enough Jules to do the upgrade. Without Jules it's $19.99 for the Maven box and an additional $35 to upgrade. Making it $55.00

I know this is a terrible picture but I couldn't get the lighting right. The left is the warm fig eye sheen and the right is the ink gel liner.

Judi, Greta, Roc Solid, Kristen

Cameron, Rooney, Octavia, Diamond Theory

Diamond Theory, Glam Roc, Love (this was included in everyone's box as a special gift)

The value of my Maven box is $198.00 or $158.40 maven price. I like the colors of Cameron and Glam Roc but I'm not sure about the Stardust finish. I'm not a fan of texture on my nails. I was wondering if the topcoat would help it feel not so crusty. I love the way Love looks in the bottle - totally reminds me of Valentine's colors. I wasn't expecting the eye sheen to be so thick. I've heard it's really good and has staying power. I didn't need the gel liner because I have lots already. I love gel liner though, it lasts a long time and the pigment is dark.

Verdict: I like Julep.  They offer fun boxes, skipping the month is easy and their mystery boxes are a great value.
