September Julibox - Collection #13

Julibox is a subscription box for those who like the beverages of the adult variety. Each month Julibox sends out recipes for two different cocktails and all the ingredients necessary to make them (minus any fresh fruit).  Each cocktail will be enough to serve two people so basically you get four cocktails per box.  Julibox cost $40 if you do a month to month membership and can go as low as $36 a month if you sign up for a 6 month membership.  Shipping is included in all prices.  The nice thing about the 3, 6 or 2 month memberships is they don't bill you in advance they bill you once a month.  I sign up for 6 months at a time which takes the price down to $36.00 billed monthly.

They say you can buy more of anything you like in their shop but when I clicked on their store page the only thing for sale were some older boxes which were all sold out.

This subscription only ships in the US and only to certain states that don't have restrictions on alcohol shipments.  The package ships from Brooklyn, New York via UPS and requires adult of 21 years or older to sign.

The good:

Like new drinks: This is a great way to try new drinks without buying a full size bottle of alcohol.

Need a gift: You can gift Julibox. What a better way to say thanks than with a cocktail.

Monthly billing: I like that if you sign up for 3 months or longer they still bill you monthly.  If you cancel before the end of the subscription term they will charge you $15.00 This seems like a fair deal to me.

The not so good:

Price: The price ends up being $9-$10 per drink which is right around regular bar prices.  The benefit is you can drink in the comfort of your own home.

Don't like the drink: Well at least you don't have full size bottle sitting around not being used.

The changed the envelope up a little bit. It's sleeve style and has a gold embossed logo.

The contents of the box (The Liber & Co. and Royal Rose mixers were mailed separately for some reason)

Cocktail #1 Texas Dolly

(2) 50 ml bottles Familia Camarena Tequila. Value = $1.99/ea.

50 ml bottle Averna Amaro. Value = $4.99

2 oz. bottle Liber & Co. Texas Grapefruit Shrub. Value = $3.06

Total value = $12.03 for two cocktails.

Cocktail #2 The Queens Collins

(2) 50 ml bottles Bulldog Gin. Value = $1.99/ea.

Perrier Natural Sparkling Water. Value = $1.50

2 oz. bottle Royal Rose Strawberry Fennel Simple Syrup. Value = $2.94

Total value = $8.42 for two cocktails.

The total value in this box is $20.45. I enjoy this box and getting to try new cocktails but I'm getting very frustrated with the low values. I know they probably spend quite a bit in shipping and presentation but I still think the value could be better. With that being said both cocktails this month look tasty. I've always been a fan of grapefruit and I imagine it will take the edge off the tequila. I'm very curious to try the strawberry fennel syrup in the queens collins.

Verdict: I like this box but I've decided to cancel. I just can't justify the cost. I think it would make a fun gift though.

  1. The Queens Collins sounds so interesting. How was it?

Yeah, I mean for that price they should at least include a fun bonus item every now and then whether it be a strainer, mixer, salt, or even a shot glass/cocktail glass.

  2. I totally agree. Throw in a bar towel or something. I didn't try the drinks yet - I decided to drink wine this weekend instead :)
