June Gourmet Spotting

Gourmet Spotting is just what the name implies.  It's gourmet food sent to you discovered by the owners during their travels.  One of the tag lines of Gourmet Spotting is "Discover the world from your kitchen" Love it!  They send the best gourmet products from around the world, every month to your doorstep. For $37.94 a month (the box is $29.99 plus $7.95 shipping) you will receive a box of 4 to 6 medium to full sized hand-picked gourmet products.  In addition to sending you a box of delicious treasures they also donate a meal to charity for every box they ship.  You know I'm a big fan of the meal donations so this made me very happy.

This subscription box ships to the US only and ships from New York, NY.

The good:

Gourmet food: Love gourmet food then you will love this.

Price: Great price to be able to try thing that aren't readily available at your local store.

Pay it Forward: They donate a meal for every box sent.

Sizes: Not just little sample sizes.  This is enough for everyone or you can keep it all for yourself.

Information: The send a flyer (printed on nice heavy card stock) with information on all the products.

Need a gift: They will send a custom message on a 1,3,6 or 12 month gift box.

The not so good:

Skip: The is no option to skip a month, only cancel.

Gourmet Spotting box.

Contents of box with approximate retail price listed:

12 oz. Organic Peruvian Heirloom Quinoa, Peru. Value = $4.99??

5 oz. Organic Raw Almonds, California. Value = Value = $5.00??

5 oz. Organic Sunflower Seeds, China. Value = $1.00??

Mestemacher Bakery Organic Whole Rye Bread. Value = $2.99 - I liked this bread and I normally don't like rye. The boyfriend didn't like it, he said it was too dry and he likes rye. I put some pastrami and tomatoes on it and toasted it one day and another day I spread some soft cheese and pastrami on it. Delicious!

Agrosik Preservative free Blackcurrant Jam, Poland. Value = $5.99

Torie & Howard Organic Hard Candy, Connecticut. Value = 5.49??

The approximate value of this months box is probably about $25.46. This is a very rough estimate since I couldn't find the exact brand of quinoa, almonds and sunflower seeds. This box wasn't as exciting to be as their other boxes have been. I'm not a fan of Quinoa. Perhaps I've never had it cooked right but I find the texture to be odd. The included a recipe for toasted almond and coconut quinoa porridge, maybe I'll give that a try. The almonds and sunflower seeds are ok but I get those things all the time. I have never been a fan of rye bread but I haven't tried it a long time. If I don't like something I usually try it again every couple of years to see if my taste buds have changed. For instance I didn't like blue cheese until last year and now I find it delicious! Also different brands and how items are prepared make a difference. I never liked beets until I had a fresh beet. There is a world of difference between a canned and fresh beet!

Verdict: This wasn't the best box from GP but usually they are awesome.

  1. I agree with you, this box looks a bit disappointing. It seems more like regular old staples you can probably find at Whole Foods. I was thinking of subscribing last month, I am really glad I didn't!

    Thanks for the review :)

    1. usually their boxes are really good. I won't cancel but I'll be curious about next months box.
