January Julibox

A few of months ago I heard about Julibox.  Julibox is a subscription box for those who like the beverages of the adult variety. Each month Julibox sends out a recipes for two different cocktails and all the ingredients necessary to make them (minus any fresh fruit).  Each cocktail will be enough to serve two people so basically you get four cocktails per box.  Julibox cost $40 if you do a month to month membership and can go as low as $36 a month if you sign up for a 6 month membership.  Shipping is included in all prices.  The nice thing about the 3, 6 or 2 month memberships is they don't bill you in advance they still be you once a month.

They say you can buy more of anything you like in their shop but when I clicked on their store page there was nothing for sale except the November 2012 box.  I'm hoping this will be up and running soon, although I have a Total Wine and Bev Mo very close to me so it wouldn't be hard to get what more.

This is the fourth collection offered by Julibox.

The good:

Like new drinks: This is a great way to try new drinks without buying a full size bottle of alcohol.

Need a gift: You can gift Julibox. What a better way to say thanks than with a cocktail.

Monthly billing: I like that if you sign up for 3 months or longer they still bill you monthly.  If you cancel before the end of the subscription term they will charge you $15.00 This seems like a fair deal to me.

The not so good:

Price: The price ends up being $9-$10 per drink which is right around regular bar prices.  Now the benefit is you can drink in the comfort of your own home.

This is how the products are shipped.  There is plenty of packing material and each bottle is wrapped in tissue. I didn't take a picture but each drink has it's own color tissue making it easy to identify the ingredients.

This is the front and back of the included recipe cards.  They list all the things you will need down the the type of glass and how to mix the drink.  The even include a toast and rating area for you to fill out.  These are printed on heavy card stock and can be saved for future reference.  The also have instructional videos on their website to view.

How great are these treasures!

Cocktail #1 The High Society

(2) 50 ml bottle of Knob Creek Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.  Value = $3.49/ea

50 ml bottle of Cointreau. Value = $3.99

50 ml bottke of Amaro Averna. Value = $4.99

6.8 oz. bottle Fever Tree Spring Soda Water. Value = $1.75

The total value of this cocktail recipe is $17.71 for two drinks.

Cocktail #2 Winter Side Car

(2) 50 ml bottles of Xante Pear Cognac. Value = $2.95/ea.

50 ml bottle of Disaronno Italian Liquer. Value = $2.95

The total value of this cocktail recipe is $8.85 for two drinks.

The total value in this box is $26.56.  That's about $6.64 per drink and the cost of the box is $9-$10 per drink.  This is better than last months and I have to admit it was nice trying new drinks without having to buy full size bottles of alchohol.  The other nice thing I noticed was I received an email prior to receiving my shipment telling me that I would need a lemon and an orange for my drinks this month.  I thought that was really cool info to get in advance.

Verdict: Still on the fence but I really enjoyed making and trying the drinks last month.

**I am not any type of sponsor paid or unpaid for Julibox. I purchase these subscriptions myself

  1. Have you heard of graze box? It is kinda like go bites exept it is weekly for five dollars. They also have way more food than go bites and they are getting more. I just subscribed to them, and their unique rating system is pretty cool. They first launched in the uk, and just came to America. You need an invite code to get it, I used USAVIP and you get your first box and fifth box free.

    1. Thanks for the info. I went ahead and signed up....sigh, another box. I like that you can customize it and 5 boxes for the price of 3 is a great deal. Thanks for sharing. I posted your code under my discount section if that's ok. Subscribe to svbscription yet?

    2. Not yet, I need to see some reviews before I go ahead and take that gamble, because there is almost no one telling what is inside. The whole box seems mysterious.

    3. and p.s everyone gets their own referall code. I got some little ticket slips with my code to handout to people. Mine is DK1LLMXD.

  2. I looooooooove this box SO much. When I go out and it's an open bar but there's no cocktail menu, I'm always at a loss as to what to order outside of my regular cranberry & vodka so this has been so much fun trying new drinks. So far my first box was my favorite (polish mule, YUM!). I am not a big whisky fan though.

I know the value isn't there but it's so much fun that I don't care. Hubs likes it too. Got this as gifts for Christmas too, huge hit.

    1. After trying the drinks in the first box I got I was a little more excited about it. I like the idea of being able to try something without having to buy a full bottle. I'm not a whiskey person either but I keep hearing Knob Creek is really good so I was kind of excited about that. I've been saving the drink cards also because 1. they are printed on nice heavy cardstock with tons of info and 2. It's a great reference. I agree that no matter what the value is it would make an awesome gift.
