October Mantry Box

Mantry is a new subscription box geared towards men.  I think the plan is to be monthly but I couldn't find a whole lot of information on that.  This is my second Mantry box.  The way it works is you sign up on their website to be notified when the box goes on sale.  Then they send you an email saying your Mantry is ready with the price.  It's a one time purchase so you're not signing up for a monthly subscription.  Last month the price of the box was $48.00 and the value ended up being $43.60.  There was some cool food stuff in the box so I was totally ok with the price.  This month the price was $75.00 and I just realized that the price is Canadian so I had to pay an exchange rate making it $78.21 for me.  I noticed on their website they have an office in New York and Canada so I'm not sure why it's being billed Canadian but being sent from the U.S.

The good:

Packaging: Comes in an awesome little crate.  This can be used to store all kind of stuffs.

Products: Full size specialty items. Now I don't know if this is always the case because there was no info on what the expect.  There are like the ultimate mysterious man only in the form of a business.

The not so good:

Price: The price fluctuates.  September was $48 and this month was $75.00.

Information: I need more info!

This is the information booklet that came with this months crate.  The crate is very cool - you can see more pics of it here

Contents of the Mantry crate.

Contents with retail price listed.  ALL products are full size.

700 ml bottle of Noble Bourbon Barrel Matured Maple Syrup. - Value= $24.95 - This had a faint smell of bourbon but didn't taste strong.  I actually like it because it wasn't overly sweet.

8 oz. jar of The Jam Stand Bourbon Blueberry Jam. - Value $8.50

7 oz jar of Skillet Bacon Spread. Value = $9.95 - I tasted this plain and was surprised at how sweet it was.  I can totally see adding this to eggs.  I added this to the pancake mix and it was good but I could've added more.

Satchel of Nora Mills Granary Grandma's biscuit and pancake mix. Value = $6.50 - Light fluffy and delicious!

5 oz jar Bourbon Barrel Aged Worcestershire Sauce. Value = $6.00

The total value of this Mantry box is $55.90.  I paid $78.21 which makes a $22.31 difference.  Needless to say I was not happy about the value.  I did a little investigating.  The package this month was quite heavy (a little of 7 lbs.) but they use a USPS flat rate box which ships for $11.35.  If you include shipping the price would be $67.25 for a difference of $7.75.  That made me feel a little better but I would've like to seen at least one more item in the box.  The concept of these monthly subscriptions is for companies to get exposure for their products and for the consumer to feel as though they are getting a deal, especially if the customer is buying a "mystery box".
The boyfriends birthday is this weekend so this stuff did come in handy.  I'll make him some breakfast using all these goodies.

Verdict: High priced but this box had some cool food stuff in it.  Undecided on purchasing another box, it will depend on the price.

**I am not any type of sponsor paid or unpaid for Mantry.  I purchase these subscriptions myself.

If you contact them on Facebook, they are very nice.
