August Little Black Bag

It's Little Black Bag time!  I actually was going to skip this month but I had a referral credit and though "oh what the heck!" I'm so glad I didn't skip because I love the items I received.

New to these Little Black Bag games? LBB is a monthly subscription service with a twist.  It's sort of confusing to talk about but once you get going it's easy. There are people that open several bags a month.  I've really been trying to limit myself to one a month and have so far been successful.

In a nutshell you join the monthly service and pay $49.95 plus $4.95 shipping and tax (CA & NY) which brings the total to roughly $59 or you can do a one time bag purchase for $59.95 plus $4.95 shipping and tax (CA & NY).  You pick out one item to put in your bag from the gallery of at least 200+ items ranging in price from $10-$105).  The deal is for $49.95 or $59.95 you will receive at least $100 worth of items.  So once you pick out your one item you click "add to bag" and the company picks out 1-3 more items to put in your bag so it's value is at least $100.  Now the catch is you don't get to see what those other items are until you pay for your bag.  They show you the brand and value so you can look through the gallery to see what the possibilities are.  The items will change depending on the value of the item you pick out.  Once you pick out your item and purchase your bag this is where the twist comes in .  You are not obligated to keep any of the items in your bag you can trade them with other members on the Little Black Bag website for items in their bags.  This goes on for 7 days.  Once the 7 days is over your bag closes and ships. Now if anytime during those 7 days you are happy with your bag and want it sent it to you just click ship my bag and off it goes to your happy little hands.

The trading part of it sounds more confusing than it actually is.  Say you get a necklace picked out for you that you really don't like.  You can go into the gallery pick something you like and offer to trade it for something in your bag.  You don't actually talk to the people you are trading with it but you just put your trades out there and hope someone else with an open bag accepts.  Tons of trading goes on so don't worry about not being able to trade your items, that rarely happens.

The good:

Like to shop? The definitely fills the shopping need.  It feels like you are shopping every time you check the website to look for items to trade with other members.

The value:  Your bag is guaranteed to be worth at least $100.  My lowest bag was $164 and as high as $400.

The brands. The brands are well very well known.  Kenneth Cole, Disney, RJ Graziano, R&Em, Gorjana, Sakroots, Jessica Simpson and they are always adding more.  Also they add new products every Monday and Thursday.

Multiple treasures:  You can score multiple treasures and use them for gifts at a fraction of the cost.

Variety. They have handbags, sunglasses, cell phone cases, iPad cases, earrings, wallets, nail polish, home :items, etc.  You will find something you like.

Skip a month? Don't want a bag with month? then skip it.  The company sends and email on the 1st of every month and you have 5 days to decided if you want to skip or open a bag.  If you forget to skip for some reason they will still charge you for that month.  If you have a open bag during the 5 day time frame that counts as your monthly bag.

Need a gift? Send them their own little black bag.  You purchase the bag and the company sends the recipient and email saying they received a gift.  Who wouldn't love picking out their own treasures! and what a unique gift.

Received your items but didn't like it:  LBB will let you return the item for an exchange or refund.  The refund will be prorated based on the number of items in your bag and price paid.  For an exchange you will receive another mystery item in your bag with a value of within $5 of the exchanged item.  I've done the exchange process and it was fairly painless.  I had to pay for the return shipping but once the company received the items they sent an email confirming receipt and I received items in my next bag of similar value.

The not so good:

The price:  Yes $50 a month is a little pricey but if you break it down by item it's not so bad.  Also you can use it to find gifts or just skip a month.

Pictures: They show pictures of the items and list the sizes but I would like to see them on a model (real or fake) to see the scale.  I have received a couple of pairs of earrings that were bigger than I thought they were going to be.

Want more, more more?:  You can only open one bag at a time however there is no limit to the number of bag you can open.

Time: In my opinion you need to really be on top of the emails to get the best deals.  I'm fortunate enough to have a job where I can check my email frequently can really stay of top my trading for the 7 day period.

It's addicting.  Nuff said

These are my LBB treasures all wrapped up in black tissue paper.

My treasures.  My kitty had to do her inspection and my dog was very uninterested in the whole thing.

Koret Stripe Sensation Tote.  Retail $98.00

Street Level Cut Out Top Handle Satchel in Sea Foam Green. Retail $64.00

Zad Silver Hammered Overlap Cuff. Retail $26.00

bonus item included in bag $15 off coupon of $75.00 purchase at Steve Madden.

The total value of my LBB this month is $188.00.  I started with a purple sequin bag and the boyfriend talked me into trading it (apparently he doesn't like sequins).  After a few trades someone offered me this striped tote and the boyfriend convinced me to accept it.  I'm sure glad I did because this tote is perfect for work!  I kept eyeing the cut out bag because it was so unusual and I thought what the heck I'll put some trades out there and see if someone accepts it.  Low and behold I got it.  Someone on facebook had posted a Louis Vuitton bag that looked strikingly similar to it.  I thought it was interesting that I was really drawn to a Louis Vuitton look a like.  I looked on the LV website and sure enough there is an LV bag that looks exactly the the same except it's called the jelly bag and it's $2600.00!  I happen to own a LV bag and know the quality is amazing and not comparable but since I don't have $2600.00 laying around to spend on a purse this is a pretty good substitute.  The Zad bracelet is cute but it doesn't fit right on my arm so I'm sending it back for an exchange.

I started my bag with 4 items.  My pick (an $80 purse), 2 stylist picks ($25 bracelet and $18 earrings) and a referral item (cuff $25, thanks Ashley W!).  So if you don't count the referral item since it's extra for me then my bag value is $163.00 and I paid $58.  I wasn't too thrilled with the coupon for Steve Madden because it's not someplace I normally shop and $15.00 off doesn't make me want to rush out and spend $75.00.

Verdict: I love Little Black Bag

**I pay for these subscriptions myself and am not any type of sponsor paid or unpaid for Little Black Bag

  1. I got a bag this past month and I'm returning the purse I got; it had a huge tag on it that said WARNING: This bag is made with chemicals known in the state of California to cause cancer... and it just smells so horribly of chemicals. I love the sunglasses I got, though! I agree the stupid $15 off $75 is not a great bonus item, especially as you couldn't trade it.

LOVE the stuff you got! Last month was a better month for me with LBB. Oh and I did get the purple sequin purse last month and ADORE IT!!! Was the one you had the purple or the blue one? Those are the only two sequin purses I saw.

    1. Did you get the striped bag? It's come in more handy that I thought. I've heard other people say they received purses with that same warning label and they also returned it.

The sequin purse I originally had was the purple Big Buddha with the chain handles. It was very sparkly and over the top for everyday use but I still thought it was fantastic. Is that the one you have?

The is a coupon that is expiring today (DAILYBUZZ) you can add it to an existing bag or open a new bag and it puts an extra item worth up to $50 in your bag. I'm really trying to refrain but there is a BCBG tote that is calling my name and the extra item is really tempting.

  2. It was the striped green hobo and it stinks really bad; such a bummer. It wasn't nearly as cute IRL either. You win some and you lose some; thankfully the returns are easy so I'll get it dropped in the mail hopefully tomorrow or Monday.

I did get the Big Buddha purple sequin purse last month and LOVE IT!!! I haven't used it yet but hubby and I are going on a lunch date tomorrow so I'll have to use it then, yay!

    1. LOVE that BB sequin purse! Glad to hear it's just as cute in real life. Maybe they will get more someday and I can pick it again.

  3. So LBB disabled my account. I'm not sure why yet (I just wrote them to ask why) but I'm going to take a wild guess and say it was because I left a comment about the purse smelling like chemicals and wanting to return it. There's nothing else I have said or done that would elicit a response like disabling my account; everything has been paid for so there's no balance. I am a factual person so I just stated the facts; I wasn't screaming or cussing at anyone or anything of that nature, was not abusive or harassing. Needless to say I'm confused and perhaps it had nothing to do with my comment about the purse?! I wonder if I'll even get a response to asking them why they disabled my account.

I was going to cancel it anyway because I am trying to narrow my subscriptions down to the ones I like the best but it was really shocking to go on there tonight and find my account disabled, which I didn't do. Anyway I just thought I'd tell you about that since you do review these subscriptions. Not sure what you do with the information but thought I'd share with SOMEONE because it really rubbed me the wrong way.

    1. I hope they didn't cancel your account because of that. I know someone else who had their account canceled and when she emailed them it was discovered it was a mistake. I also know other people have sent items back for the cancer warning and their accounts weren't canceled. I'm really curious what the reasoning it. keep me posted.
