May Glossybox

Glossybox has finally arrived in the US.  This is another monthly beauty subscription service that I had heard really good things about but until recently it wasn't available in the US.  The price is a higher than a lot of the other beauty companies at $21 a month plus tax.  The company says they will send 5 travel size beauty products every month.  Just like a lot of other companies when you sign up you do a little beauty quiz which is supposed to help personalize your box.  I wasn't able to complete the beauty quiz and the company says that should be fixed soon.  I wasn't to worried because I'm not sure those quizzes make a huge difference anyway.  This is the May Glossybox but I received it the first week of June. Since this is the first box I don't know if that's typical or not.

The good:

The brands: They have well known quality brands like OPI, Zoya, Burberry, C.O. Bigelow and other brands specific to other countries.

The sizes: They send deluxe size samples and a couple of items were full sized.

The box: I know it's just a box but it's a really nice sturdy box in a nice shade of pink.  The only logo is on the top and it's not very big.  That makes this box perfect for reusing for a gift box.

Free stuff: If you provide feedback on your products you earn Glossydots which will eventually earn you a free box.

Pricing Structure: They have different ways you can sign up.  You can sign up monthly and pay $21 a month. 6 month subscription is $115 which makes it $19.16 a month or yearly $220 which makes it $18.33 a month.  You have to pay in advance for the 6 or 12 month subscription but if you know you want to keep this subscription either of those options is a great deal.

The not so good:

The price: This can be a little high for some people but if you want to receive known/quality brands it's worth it.

This is how the box came.  Funny story - my boyfriend got the mail and says "why are you getting a box with an ORM-D sticker on it"  My response "what are you talking about? What's O-M-R whatever?" So I got a brief lesson on ORM-D which stands for other regulated materials for domestic transport only.  Turns out certain beauty items are considered regulated materials by the government because they could be potentially hazardous in certain quantities.  His guess was because there were thousands of packages containing whatever the mystery item is on a one truck this sticker became a necessity.  This information just made me a little bit excited...hmmm potentially dangerous beauty items...from New Jersey!

So I opened the outer box which had a nifty little zip pull thing like you see on priority mail boxes.  Good thinking on the companies part, get into those treasures quickly! Inside the outer box was a cardboard light pink box.

Inside the pink box was a little card that says: Glossybox - around the world. it describes the items in the box and the thought behind it.  The other side of the card gives a full description of the item and the full size price and size

Contents of box.  Full size amount and price listed in parenthesis.

.27 oz Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel from South Korea. value = $16.00 (1.7 oz   $100.00) - was very rich feeling and I found that a little dab went a long way which is good considering the price.

.028 oz Burberry Beauty Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick in Copper No. 202 from the UK. value = $7.06 (.12 oz $30.00) - I wasn't thrilled with the color, although it was nice and neutral so everyone could use it.  What I did love though was how it felt and looked.  It went on like butter and once applied it was a nice glossy look and soft feel.  I would look into buying this again, in a different color.

Full size 1.23 oz Marvis whitening toothpaste from Italy. value = $7.50 - The mint flavor is very subtle which is nice.  I felt like it really cleaned my teeth.  They felt really smooth afterwards.  I use sensitive toothpaste so I probably wouldn't buy this but I did enjoy using it.

1.7oz Phyto Phytojoba intense Hydrating Mask for Dry Hair from France. value = $9.74 (6.7 oz $38.00)

Full size .5 oz. Zoya Summer 2012 Beach and Surf in Collection in Myrta from the USA. value = $8.00 (I'm thinking this is my potentially dangerous is massive quantities item) - love this color on.  It's a little sparkly and perfect for summer.  One coat was enough to fully color my nails.

**Bonus** Glossybox Blush Brush made from goat hair. value = $10.00 (guess) - I'm excited about this because I needed a new brush.

The total value of my Glossybox is $58.30.  I love the items in this box.  I was really excited about the Burberry lipstick because it's a nice neutral color and the size.  I wish more lipstick came in this size honestly because I hardly ever use a whole tube.  When I opened the box I held up the toothpaste and the boyfriend said "oh that looks fancy".  I then picked up the moisturizer and read aloud that the full size is $100. The boyfriend immediately opened it and started applying it to his smile lines (which are very faint) and says "I'm being preventative".  So this box was fun for both of us I guess.

Verdict: I'm very happy with my Glossybox and plan keeping it as long as they keep up the great samples.

***I am not any type of sponsor paid or unpaid for Glossybox. I pay for these subscriptions myself.
